Narrative Report on Literacy Games and Active Learning Stations

Title: Literacy Games and Active Learning Stations

Date of Implementation: [Insert Date]
Venue: Marilou B. Arboleda Memorial Hall, Arboleda National High School

I. Rationale

In support of the Department of Education’s advocacy to create a child-

friendly, inclusive, and literacy-rich learning environment, Arboleda National
High School conducted Literacy Games and Active Learning Stations as part of
its Brigada Eskwela 2025 activities. Initiated by the English Department and
led by Ma’am Maria Eloisa N. Mangalino, the event aimed to promote reading,
vocabulary development, and comprehension skills through fun and engaging
games. The program was also made possible through the active support of
the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay San Pedro Ili, who collaborated
with teachers and volunteers to bring the literacy stations to life.

II. Objectives
 To enhance learners’ interest and motivation in reading through
interactive literacy games.
 To develop students’ vocabulary, comprehension, and storytelling skills
in a creative and relaxed setting.
 To engage youth leaders and the local community in supporting school
literacy initiatives.
 To show that reading can be enjoyable and meaningful when
integrated with games and peer activities.

III. Description of Activities

The school grounds were transformed into a vibrant learning space
through several active learning stations, each with a unique literacy-focused
game:
 Word Pick Me Up – students raced to find and match words to their
meanings or synonyms under time pressure.
 Snake and Ladders with Reading – learners read phrases or short
passages before taking their turn in the game.
 Let’s Play Bingo! – students identified vocabulary words and reading
elements in a bingo format.
 The Great LETTER Rumble – an exciting race where students formed
words using letter flashcards to reinforce spelling.
 Pick-a-Palooza – learners picked a mystery envelope containing reading
prompts and shared their thoughts aloud.
 READ-y, Set, Spin! – a spinning wheel dictated random literacy tasks
such as tongue twisters, word hunts, or story sequencing.
 Watch and Learn – a manual storytelling device using a rolled
storyboard inside a cardboard "TV" allowed students to enjoy a
narrated story visually.
 Read and Find Me – a reading-based scavenger hunt that guided
students find the word.
Each station was facilitated by English teachers and SK volunteers,
ensuring smooth flow and student engagement throughout the activity.

IV. Highlights and Observations

 Overwhelming participation and enthusiasm from students across
different grade levels.
 Strong collaboration between the school and community youth
leaders, showcasing shared commitment to literacy.
 Students demonstrated improved confidence in reading aloud and
vocabulary recall.
 Parents and guests commended the school for making reading fun and
accessible.

V. Conclusion and Recommendations

The Literacy Games and Active Learning Stations at Arboleda National
High School successfully met its objectives. The initiative not only encouraged
students to rediscover the joy of reading but also fostered collaboration
between the school and the local community. It is highly recommended that
similar programs be conducted regularly as part of Reading Month
Celebration.
