Answer the questions below :

1. a. Explain in detail and comprehensively why you need to study managerial economics !

b. Explain in detail and comprehensively what the definition of managerial economics is !

c. The theory of the firm suggests that to achieve profit, we need to maximize revenue as much
as possible and minimize costs as little as possible. Do you agree with this statement?
Explain in detail and comprehensively !

2. When the price of a good is Rp16,000 per unit, the demand for the good is 18 units. However,
when the price drops to Rp14,000 per unit, the demand increases to 22 units.
a. What is the demand function for the good?
b. If the price of the good is Rp5,000, what will be the quantity demanded?
3. When the price is Rp 5.000, the quantity supplied is 20 units. Then, when the price decreases to
Rp 4.500, the quantity supplied decreases to 15 units.

Calculate the supply elasticity coefficient!

4. Mr. Adi likes to consume two types of goods, X and Y, with the following utility data:

If the price per unit of both goods is on average $1 for good X and $2 for good Y, while the
consumer's income is $10, the questions are:

b. Draw the Total Utility and Marginal Utility curves for goods X and Y.

5. Case Study

In 2022, Apple Inc. launched its latest iPhone at a price of $1,099 for the standard model. As a
marketing strategy, Apple implemented price skimming, setting a high initial price to capture a
segment of customers willing to pay more.

However, after three months, Apple reduced the price by $150 to boost sales volume among more
price-sensitive market segments. This decision sparked outrage among early customers, who felt
they had overpaid compared to those who purchased after the price drop.

Apple then faced several challenges:

1. Customer dissatisfaction and complaints from early buyers, threatening brand loyalty.
2. Increased sales after the price reduction, but with a lower profit margin per unit.
3. Competitive strategies from rivals like Samsung and Google, which adopted more flexible
and aggressive pricing strategies.

In response, Apple offered a $100 store credit to early customers as a form of compensation.
