Analysis Of The Man To Send Rain Clouds
The short story The Man to Send Rain Clouds by Leslie Marmon Silko is a deceptively simple
narrative about the death and funeral of an old man of the Laguna Pueblo tribe of Native
Americans. Set in the desert southwest of the United States, the story is narrated from an
omniscient point of view, and describes the discovery of the old man s body, the preparation of the
body for burial, and the interaction between the family of the dead man and the Catholic priest who
lives on the reservation. The author uses very simple language and unsophisticated descriptions to
describe an intricate and complex relationship between the Christian culture of the priest and the
religious culture of the Pueblo culture. Descriptions of the bleak landscape... Show more content on

As they are wrapping up Teofilo s corpse, Leon ties a gray feather in the old man s hair with a
piece of twine. Ken hands him paint and he decorates the old man s face with stripes of white,
blue, yellow and green stripes. Leon tosses pinches of cornmeal and pollen into the air. The
narrator does not describe the significance of these actions, but it is obvious that these are
ritualistic activities that have to do with funeral rites. The men wrap the corpse in a red blanket
and carry it up to their truck. At this point the reader becomes aware that the men must have
anticipated that Teofilo was dead when they went out to the sheep encampment. Why else would
they have brought the paint, cornmeal, pollen, and red blanket? The men appear to be filling their
parts in a predetermined drama. Before placing the blanket wrapped body in the back of the truck,
Leon addresses Teofilo s corpse: Bring us rain clouds, Grandfather. (Silko, p. 358).
On their way home, the men encounter the local priest, Father Paul. The priest asks them if they
have located Teofilo, and they demur, telling him only that everything is fine at the camp. The priest
interprets this to mean that Teofilio is well, and he tells them that the old man is too frail to be left
at the sheep camp alone. The men assure him that they won t be doing that again, and the priest and
the men part. The priest believes that they have

Sonny s Blues By James Baldwin Essay
Sonny s Blues is a narration about two siblings brothers who choose very different routes in life in
order to accomplish the zenith of individualism, expressionism and recognition. In doing so, they
take a glimpse into one another s spheres and learn to assent and appreciate each other for who
they are. In 1951, Baldwin wrote Sonny s Blues, a story of the ills that Harlem provided its youth.
In Baldwin s telling of the narration, it forms a nous of liberation, an atmosphere of therapeutic
acceptance for the author, in which Baldwin develops to express his own state through his virtuoso
of storytelling. To put it inanely, Baldwin has such a fine grasp of the linguistic and such great urge
to interpret that he can move even his stoutest detractors to emotion and response.
Walter Dean Myers (2014), a famous New York Times journalist wrote that ...I read a story by James
Baldwin: Sonny s Blues. I didn t love the story, but I was lifted by it, for it took place in Harlem, and
it was a story concerned with black people like those I knew. By humanizing the people who were
like me, Baldwin s story also humanized me. The story gave me a permission that I didn t know I
needed, the permission to write about my own landscape, my own map. It broods a similar
contentment in the reader that the reader s conscience is questioned by the exposé of the veracity
of the characters quandary and epiphany and thus, a deep level of appreciative ness of the American
Negro s struggle is
Gullivers Travels Comparison Between Book and Movie Essay
Gullivers Travels Comparison Between Book and Movie It is common in today s media driven
society to reach into the past for inspiration and ideas. A trend has developed where original works
are transformed into other mediums. For example: books are turned into movies and/or plays,
movies are turned into weekly sitcoms, and cartoons will spawn empires (Disney). These things
happen so often that an audience rarely stops to question the level of authenticity that remains after
these conversions. Perhaps it is only when a project is not well received that people begin to think
of the difficulties involved with changing a work s genre. Using Gulliver s Travelsas an example,
discrepancies and additions in the movie can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cobwebs and dust obscure the sign at first, but Gulliver breaks down the barrier and wipes the
sign to reveal that he has found the Room of Answers. He enters the room and asks if the man
there can tell him the way back to England. The man turns around and Gulliver is looking at an
exact replica of himself. This second Gulliver states You know the way home, but you ll never find
it because deep in you heart, you don t want to to which the original Gulliver replies That s not true!

The scene described above appears to be quite critical to the plot development in the movie.
However, this appears nowhere in the original text. The viewer must ask him/herself why this
was added and the consequences of the change. The movie version of this story portrays Gulliver
as a travel that has been gone for eight consecutive years and had been searching for his way
home the entire time. He merely falls into unfortunate circumstances that prevent this return. In the
book, however, it is less clear that Gulliver desires to be home at all. He very rarely speaks of his
family and seems to have little emotion at being reunited with them after each journey or when he
leaves them again. The movie s alternate portrayal of Gulliver seems incongruent with the added
scene. Instead, this extra scene would appear to make more sense if the character of Gulliver was
depicted as he was in the book.
The New York Times, By Jon M. Gibson
Introduction Kyle Cooper is one of the most prominent and influential designers of both the 20th and
21st centuries. As Jon M. Gibson states, his title sequences have, ...brought attention to an art form
that has long been considered an afterthought... . With more than 150 title sequences, five Emmy
nominations, the Title of Honorary Royal Designer and the winner of the AIGA medal in 2014,
Cooper has become a huge affect with title designers in the 21st century. His creation of the title
sequencefor Se7en (1995) is what brought the limelight to Cooper, after having such a success
with both the public and filmmakers all around the world. The New York Times went so far as to
say that this specific title sequence was one of the most important design innovations of the 1990s.
Influenced by the works of Pablo Ferro, Saul Bass, Stephen Frankfurt and Maurice Binder, Cooper
s style and designs changed the way in which title sequences for movies, series and video games
are done nowadays, by evoking a revival in the importance of a meaningful and well designed title;
something that had been gradually lost in the previous decades.

Pre Se7en Era As a child, Cooper was highly influenced by American horror films and horror
comic books, which would leave him with an idea of ...evil as an active, supernatural force in the
world. A motif that is clearly seen in his work, as his sequences usually include depictions of evil or
have dark undertones, like in Arlington Road (1999), where Cooper
The Pros And Cons Of Drug Courts
Recent studies of drug court programs show that drug court is effective at reducing recidivism
and lowering cost by offering drug court and treatment as compared to the cost of jail or prison
for offenders. According to the Office of justice Programs (2017), The National Institute of
Justice s Multisite Adult Drug Court Evaluation (MADCE) completed in 2014 found that: 76 %
of Drug court participants reported less drug as compared to 56 percent of probationers and 46%
of drug court participants were less likely to test positive for drugs as compared to 29% of
probationers. Criminal activity was also lower with drug court participants 53 % than with
probationers 40% and there were fewer re arrests of drug court participants 52 % as compared to
probationers at 62 %. Regarding cost effectiveness, the NADCP (2017) reports that for every $1.00
invested in Drug Court, taxpayers save as much as $3.36 in avoided criminal justicecosts alone . In
terms of money savings for victimization , it is reported that for every $1 spent, $27 are saved.
Drug court has major advantages compared to the traditional way of punishing offenders in the legal
system. Individuals cannot learn to make changes in jail or prison, the environment is simply not
conducive to change. Drug court offers an opportunity for individuals to still be held accountable for
their offenses while receiving treatment to reduce the likelihood of re offending. There are
improvements that could be made to the drug court
Catamenial Epilepsy Essay
Catamenial epilepsy derived from the Greek term Kataminios , meaning monthly which is
characterized by the recurrent occurrence of seizures around the menstrual cycle, most often around
perimenstrual or periovulatory period (Reddy, 2013). According to the phases of the menstrual
cycle, three types of catamenial seizures (perimenstrual, periovulatory and inadequate luteal) have
been identified (Herzog et al., 1997). However, pathophysiology of catamenial epilepsy is not
clearly understood but cyclic changes in the circulating levels of progesterone and estrogens play a
key role in the progression of catamenial epilepsy (Reddy, 2004; Reddy, 2013). In the contrary, many

Traditionally, the root of A. racemosus has been widely used to increase fertility and libido, cures

at higher doses of A. racemosus, it maintains the balance between the endogenous female sex

an anticonvulsant has been experimentally validated in our laboratory (unpublished data) as well as
by other researchers too (references). The available literature reveals that the plant has not been
explored with respect to its therapeutic potential as an anticonvulsant in catamenial epilepsy. But
nowadays the virtual screening of the phytochemicals is believed to be a major tool for drug
discovery beyond their ethnic use. Hence, an effort has been made to explore the pharmacological
activities of Asparagus racemosus root using Prediction of Activity Spectra for Substances (PASS)
and Pharmaexpert. In line with in our current study, a PASS based analysis (Table 1 2) revealed the
presence of different bioactive phytoconstituents which might be responsible as an anticonvulsant
with the most significant possibility of getting effective in the management of catamenial
Mental Illness In An Anthropologist On Mars
Mental Illness in Soccer Soccer is considered a sport for everyone, from any country. Whether you
re from a rich family, a middle class family, or you live in the slums, all you need is a ball and
your feet to play. There are even soccer leagues for amputees, where the players play with their one
available leg while using stilts for balance. But can people with mental disorders play soccer, or any
other sport? In the novel An Anthropologist on Mars by Oliver Sacks, Sacks writes about the well
known and successful surgeon Dr. Carl Bennett. Dr. Bennett is diagnosed with Tourette s syndrome,
a neurological disorder characterized by repetitive, stereotyped, involuntary movements and
vocalizations called tics. (MedicineNet) However his illness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dr. Bennett tells Sacks that he hasn t seen the real, dark problems he faces with Tourette s every
day. These problems can range from panic to rage, but always end up with violence, whether it is
just the thought or an action. (Sacks) According to Sacks, Bennett only has to get a parking ticket
or see a police car in order for his mind to start thinking of worst case scenarios, such as car chases,
shootouts and even death scenarios that can become immensely elaborated in seconds. Bennett
says he can control himself in public, but at home in his privacy he is more comfortable being
violent, as seen by the dents on the walls of his house. (Sacks) But then of course there s the
biggest Tourette s stereotype: the vulgar language. Dr. Bennett doesn t have the problem with
vulgar language, rather just words that he finds attractive or funny. His sons try to help him with
that by keeping a list of all the weird words they hear, and after that he can say some of them for
months until a new different word comes up randomly one day. (Sacks) However not all Tourette s
patients are as lucky; Tim Howard is very well known for his vulgar outbursts to his teammates
when they make a big mistake or when he concedes a goal, although he states that the Tourette s isn t
always the reason for the outbursts.
California Embezzlement Essay
For the purposes of their jobs, people in California, and throughout the U.S., are often responsible for
managing or monitoring the assets or property of others. Should they use those funds in a way that
was unauthorized or for their own personal gain, however, they may be charged with embezzlement.
When handling others funds and property, there is a fine line between what is permitted and what
could be construed as theft. Therefore, it may behoove people to understand what constitutes
embezzlement, and the potential penalties that may accompany a conviction.

Recently, San Jose Mercury News reported that a 39 year old woman was charged with
embezzlement. It is alleged that the woman used company credit cards to pay for various personal
items, vehicles and trips. She is also accused of using company checks to pay her rent and give
herself unauthorized bonuses and overtime. The woman, who worked as an office manager,
allegedly stole funds in excess of $1 million over the course of a ... Show more content on

The California state penal code defines embezzlement as fraudulently appropriating funds or
property by those who have been entrusted with it. In basic terms, this is the theft of assets by
someone who has been granted access or oversight over the said assets. The most common form of
this charge is the misappropriation of funds, according to the Legal Information Institute.

For example, a person grants his or her finance manager access to his or her financial accounts. The
finance manager is meant to take a set amount of funds out of these accounts and invest them.
However, instead of investing the exact amount specified, the account manager retains a portion for
his or herself. This often constitutes embezzlement.

Proving embezzlement

This charge may seem like a he said, she said matter. However, a simple accusation of theft is not
enough to establish embezzlement charges. The U.S. Department of Justice stipulates that the

Mr. Sim started with the story. 100 years ago, they had an assembly here in this gym all sitting
where you guys are now. Almost like this, but of course different. They were talking about a lock

are in a group with other people and you have food and water and sometimes, depending on how
long you were there you got to sleep. Then Mr. Sim continued on with the story. So then after the
assembly, all the students went to lunch. So a group of girls was talking about going to the lock in.
out of the 12 of them, only three wanted to go or could go. At the end of the day, the three girls
stayed after and then met each other at one s locker. When they were together they walked down to

The Heart And Vascular Institute
Clinical Specialty Area
The clinical area chosen was the Heart and Vascular Institute through one of the hospital systems I
am employed with. I had been involved with a project that studied the readmissions experienced
within the hospital system and established heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary
disorders (COPD) were our highest readmission problems. Our organization had found that millions
of dollars had been left on the table since the Centers for Medicare Medicaid (CMS) handed down
their final ruling in 2012 regarding reduced payments for preventable readmissions (CMS.gov, 2016).
One of the outcomes of the project was the development of the rapid diuresis unit (RDU) through
our Cardiac Decision Units (CDU) at several campuses. I often wondered how the RDU of the CDU
was set up and how they function within the system. This is my opportunity to see the operation
firsthand, the clientele it serves, the staff, and potential education needs that the department faces.
