Statistics - Test

The document outlines various statistical tests for analyzing data, including normality tests (Shapiro-Wilk, Kolmogorov-Smirnov), variance tests (Levene’s, Bartlett’s, F-test), and non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon signed-rank, Kruskal-Wallis). It also details t-tests for mean comparisons, z-tests for large samples, chi-square tests for categorical data, and ANOVA for comparing means across multiple groups. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of follow-up tests like Tukey’s HSD after significant ANOVA results.

 Shapiro-Wilk test / Kolmogorov-Smirnov test – Check normality.

 Levene’s test / Bartlett’s test – Check equality of variances.

 F-test – Compare variances; used in regression (overall model significance).

Non-Parametric Tests
When data doesn’t meet assumptions like normality.
 Mann-Whitney U test – Non-parametric version of two-sample t-test.
 Wilcoxon signed-rank test – Non-parametric paired t-test.
 Kruskal-Wallis test – Non-parametric ANOVA.
 Spearman’s Rank Correlation – For ranked/ordinal data.

t-tests
Used to compare means.
 One-sample t-test – Is the sample mean different from a known value?
 Two-sample t-test (Independent) – Are the means of two independent groups significantly
different?
 Paired t-test – Compare means from the same group at different times.
Interview tip: You may be asked when to use t-test vs z-test.

🔹 3. z-test
 For large sample sizes and known population variance.
 Often asked in A/B testing or product performance comparison.

🔹 4. Chi-Square Tests
Used for categorical data.
 Chi-Square Test of Independence – Are two categorical variables related?
 Chi-Square Goodness-of-Fit Test – Does observed data match expected distribution?

🔹 5. ANOVA (Analysis of Variance)

Used to compare means of 3 or more groups.
 One-way ANOVA – Test for differences between groups.
 Two-way ANOVA – Tests interaction effects between two independent variables.
Follow-up: If ANOVA is significant, what next? → Post-hoc tests like Tukey’s HSD.
