L E T T E R F R O M T H E E D I TO R
Welcome to the New Year, I hope it’s a prosperous one for all and Covid
disruption free.
One of the most common questions I get asked with regards to Lishi is
regarding the Saab WT47 lock decode. Most don’t struggle picking this
lock, but many seem to have issues when decoding the lock and struggle
to find the correct key. In this issue, I’ve written the guide for picking and
decoding the WT47 lock, which should make the decode a simple
process, so enjoy.
We will also feature information regarding the 25th anniversary of UAP
and their new 25th anniversary brochure, one read to look forward to.
In addition, we have features on the new Firemongery range and the
inward opening letterplate range.
Plenty to read, we hope you find it all very useful.

One other point worth mentioning
is the tool is designed for the door
lock, however it will pick the boot/
trunk lock on saloon models where
fitted. It will not pick the coupe/
cabriolet boot without a modification
to the tool.
The trunk/boot lock on convertible
locks sits behind the bodywork of
the vehicle, recessed back from the
body. Normally, there is a rubber/
plastic bung you remove, which will
present you with a small round hole
with the lock recessed beyond this.

wafer to feel if it’s moving or binding. If it’s binding, we pick it, if it’s moving,
we move to position 3 and so on. I tend to try all three A axis wafers as
indicated by the grid first then when all is set, I move to the B axis wafers.
We only pick a solid binding wafer; we never pick a moving wafer. When a
wafer is picked and set, it will have a small slapping bounce which is easily
felt when set.
So we begin: I have fully inserted the tool into the lock, and positioned my
top row lift arm on position 2.
Position 2 is an A axis wafer and is first to bind and pick.
Position 6 is an A axis wafer and is the next to bind and pick.
6
Position 5 is an A wafer and is next to bind and pick.
Position 7 is a B axis wafer and is next to bind and pick.
Position 8 is also a B axis wafer and is next to bind and pick.
As soon as position 8 is picked, the lock opens. The Lock is now open
and ready to be decoded. We must hold the lock open under tension to
decode the lock.
7
DECODING THE WT47
DOOR LOCK WITH THE
LISHI WT47 2IN1 PICK AND
DECODER
Decoding the WT47 lock correctly
is where most seem to have their
problems causing a misread, as
mentioned in the tool section at
the beginning of this guide.
The lock must be in the picked
position and held picked under
tension to carry out the decode
process.
It is worth reminding you at this
stage of the need to decode the A
axis wafers and the B axis wafers
from different grids. We must decode
the three A axis wafers from the
grid on the right, and we must
decode the four B axis wafers from
the grid on the left as indicated by
the tool as shown in the photo to
the right:
So, with this in mind, we will
proceed to decode this WT47 lock.
I have positioned my lift arm on
position 2 on the tool, noting that
position 2 is labelled as an A axis
wafer so it decodes from the right
side grid.
8
Position 2 is an A axis wafer, so we use the right side grid
and it reads as a cut No 2.
Position 3 is a B axis wafer, so we use the left side grid and
it reads as a No 1 cut.
Position 3 is a B axis wafer, so we use the left side grid,
and it reads as a No 1 cut.
9
Position 5 is an A axis wafer, so we use the right side grid.
It reads as cut No 3.
Position 6 is an A axis wafer, so it reads from the right
grid, and reads as a No 4 cut.
Position 7 is a B axis wafer, so it reads from the left side
grid, and reads as a No 5 cut.
10
Position 8 is a B axis wafer, so we read from the left side
grid, and it reads as a No 4 cut.
Now our decode is complete,
positions 2 to 8 on the grid (as it’s
a 7-wafer lock) become positions
1 to 7 on the key. Following our
decode, we have to cut a key to
“2113454” in positions 1 to 7.
This will cut the correct key for the
lock, listing just the required A axis.
Nothing complicated, no having to
create tables and reverse positions
as with some other locks. Due to
the two different grids, the tool
has done this for us to decode the
exact values you must enter.
I entered into Keyline
Ninja Laser the A axis
decode of “2113454”
as in the below photo

which you can see
