Prosopagnosia In Charles Thomas Chuck Close s Life
Charles Thomas Chuck Close was born an only child in 1940 Monroe, Washington to parents that
both held a sight for artistic endeavors. He is known to everyone outside of his family as Chuck, a
name he has always hated. It was in high school where he made attempts at individuation that he
started referring to himself as Chuck. Only by an accidental dubbing taken place during an
interview in 1968 that this stuck as his professional art name. His father passed away when
Chuck was eleven forcing him and his mother to move homes for the fifth time by the age of
twelve. Growing up, Close showed difficulty in his academics and social life which led to being
tested and diagnosed with dyslexia. Out of his learning disability it became apparent that he
suffered from another disability known as prosopagnosia. Prosopagnosia is a condition in which
he cannot recognize faces. He stated that people I look at all look immediately familiar to me, but
I have tremendous difficulty figuring out who it is and where I ve seen them before. I never can
memorize. He developed his own system of memorizing by sensory deprivation and used art as a
way to prove that he wasn t exaggerating his condition. Upon graduating high school he attended...

Post traumatic stress disorder is characterized by a history of exposure to a traumatic event. The
majority of veterans suffer with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after fighting in war(s). As stated
by Galbicsek, Almost 30 percent of Vietnam veterans have been diagnosed with PTSD at some
point in their lives. Between 11 and 20 percent of those who fought in Operations Iraqi Freedom
and Enduring Freedom suffer from PTSD (Carol, Galbicsek ). More than a quarter of veterans after
fighting for these wars experience PTSD. Many veterans struggle coping with symptoms of PTSD
which has a negative effect on one s emotions. A survey conducted suggest that, veterans with a
positive diagnosis of PTSD reveals measures of worry, self punishment, social control, behavioral
distractions, and avoidance coping strategies (Pietrzak et al.). From this survey, many veterans who
have difficulty dealing with negative emotions are most likely suffering from Post traumatic stress
disorder. Unfortunately, more than the majority of veterans have dealt or is dealing with Post
traumatic stress disorder because of warfare
The Veldt Technology
Having everything done for you seems like a really good idea. Technology has made this
possible, but it s really not at all what we would expect. In the past, there were inventions to help
humans along their way to living a simple life; but do we really want that, a very simple life, so
simple that we will get bored around the house and our things will be done by someone else, or
maybe even by something else? Do we want our things, our chores or our work to be done by...
computers or technology? In the short story, The Veldt by Ray Bradbury, inventions that would
seem unimaginable or even impossible for us today have a very big impact on the characters lives.
For the Hadley family, these impacts make them spoiled, lazy, careless and useless.... Show more

as well as for George; he responds with Am I? (p.119) when Lydia explains him that he s
unnecessary too. The two of them decide that they should shut off the whole house, Live sort of a
carefree one for all existence. (p.125). The kids obviously don t want that and so they think of
getting rid of their boring, old parents that don t listen to them. They ask themselves how they got in
this mess and what prompted them to buy a nightmare and come up with the idea that it was pride,
money and foolishness (p.129). They thought that because they have money, they should buy this
mad man house.

Ray Bradbury is telling us that he does not like technology. To make his point, he makes up a
futuristic world where people are just useless, lazy and boring. He makes up houses that serve as
wife and mother now and nursemaid. (p.119). He really wants us to see that technology, abused, is
actually not as good as everyone would imagine. When the Hadleys buy the house and the nursery,
they actually buy their own ticket to death. They might not know it, but it s true. Bradbury warns us
that children should never be exposed to that kind of technology because of the outcome it can have

Worm Vs Squids
If you had to choose between a worm and squid, you would have a hard time deciding because
worms and squids have some things in common. However, something that will help you decide
between the worm and the squid is looking at their adaptations. A worm is a small, segmented
animal that lives underground. A squid is an animalthat lives in the ocean and it can come in many
different sizes. I believe that the squid is more adapted to its environment because the squid has
more abilities.First of all, the worm is still greatly adapted to the environment. Worms like darkness
so they live underground. The worms´ structure was adapted to move in narrow tunnels. They eat
leaves and other decomposed things at night. Also, worms have setae which help
The Importance Of Communication In Communication
The workplace is an environment that is constantly changing the way managers and co workers
communicate. Whether it may be in communicating in person or online there are typically different
approaches to the communicating to different audiences in the workplace. When co workers
communicate they often send emails to each other regarding a certain objective. The same principle
applies to Managers except being more formal is key to represent a professional proposal. Knowing
the audience you plan to communicate with is important because you need to tailor you message
accordingly to a higher management because the type of audience you are presenting to needs to
have the appropriate message. Things to consider is recognizing the technical and ethical
background of the person you begin to address. This allows you to consider the person you write to
as well as the level of understanding both co worker and manager. Secondly, understanding the
audience you are speaking to is important, but so I identifying the type of writingmediums you plan
to use while communicating. For example if you begin addressing a coworker you can use email to
send professional messages concerning objectives or business. Another writing medium you can use
with coworkers is memos. Memos are typically always within the legal and ethical concerns. This
formal type of medium is great for communicationwith an individual or group. In the textbook

Middle Ages Research Paper
In the middle Ages, art in Europe consisted mostly of heavenly figures. The people of medieval
times were heavily devoted to Christianity. These paintings were often themes of heaven; the
problem is that these artists have never seen heaven. The paintings did not focus on realism; instead
these paintings focused more on symbols of Christianity. Much of the art in the middle ageslacked
perspective. Humans presented in these paintings were presented unrealistically and two
dimensional. Most of the time, paintings of the middle ages lacked backgrounds and detail as
well. They used colors like blue and gold as their backgrounds because were seen as very valuable

The Renaissance occurred in Italy around the 14th century. At this time, there was an interest in
learning ancient Greek and Roman way of life. They found influence from many of the left over
sculptures, art, and architecture of the ancient world. The rediscovery of Greek philosophy has also
changed the mindset of those in the Renaissance. This new movement became known as humanism.
This new way of thinking focused and valued more of the self and human potential, and focused less
on god and religion. The spark of the humanism way of thinking also changed the landscape of art.
Before the renaissance, Most of an artist s work was religious based. But because of the new
humanistic way of thinking, artists began to add more natural and human detail into their paintings.
Religious themes were no longer the exclusive subject matter of art. Artist at this time focused more
on the beauty of the human anatomy. This is why a lot of figures in Renaissance paintings were
often naked. Artists embraced the human figure; they were the center of attention in paintings.
These new details in painting had also shaped the depiction of

The Hudson River and PCB Pollution Essay
The Hudson River and PCB Pollution The Hudson River is a body of water that stretches for 315
miles from the Adirondack Mountains to the Battery in Manhattan, reaching its deepest point of
216 feet in the Highlands near Constitution Island and West Point and reaches its widest point of 3
miles across at Havestraw. This river is one of the most beautiful and scenic of the Tri State area.
Unfortunately, it happens to be New York s most polluted river. The river has been influenced upon
since the early 1600 s, when Englishman Henry Hudson commanded the Dutch ship Half Moon on
an exploration of the river, certain that he had discovered a trade route to China. It soon dawned that
this was no Atlantic to Pacific passage but an Edenlike place... Show more content on

From 1947 to 1977, these two plants legally discharged from 500,000 to 1.5 million pounds of PCBs
into the Hudson, and unknowingly saturated the bedrock beneath both sites with at least that much
again. There are PCBs in Hudson River water, biota, and sediment from Hudson Falls to New York
City 200 miles that comprise the nations largest Superfund site. Pure PCBs are oozing out of the
bedrock to this day, constantly recontaminating the river and over 300,000 pounds remain
concentrated in bottom sediments of the river today. The spread of PCBs throughout the Hudson
River and the food chain, which it supports, has created one of the most extensive hazardous waste
problems in the nation. Polychlorinated biphenyl s (PCBs) are a group of synthetic oil like
chemicals (therefore insoluble in water) of the organochlorine family. Until their toxic nature was
recognized and their use was banned in the 1970s, they were widely used as insulation in electrical
equipment, particularly transformers. Reputable chemists have since concluded, it was probably a
mistake ever to make or use PCBs. These are serious poisons, which have been shown to cause
damage to the reproductive, neurological and immune systems of wildlife and humans and are
known to cause cancer. Exposure has also been linked to behavioral damage. Specifically, because
PCBs in the body mimic estrogen, women of childbearing age and their infants are particularly
susceptible
Should Lgbt + Americans Have Refugees In Canada
Should we offer LGBT+ Americans refugee status in Canada?
When we think of refugees entering Canada, we picture people from war torn countries fleeing
persecution from their homeland to lead a better life here. With this image in mind, it is unsurprising
that Canada does not typically accept refugees from the United States. The U.S. is considered a safe
country, according to our refugee guidelines, and is on the list of designated countries of origin in
which the minister of immigration has deemed should not be producing refugees. However, there is
a group of Americans who share some of the same concerns held by those who meet our criteria of
what a refugee is. While the US has made progress in their protection of lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgendered, queer, two spirited and other sexual minorities (LGBT+) under the latest presidency
of Barack Obama, there are still laws that exist (or do not exist) ... Show more content on

Currently, LGBT+ people from countries not designated safe, qualify for status under the convention
refugee definition as being members of a particular social group who have a well founded fear of
persecution, as defined in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. While LGBT+ Americans
are treated much better than their counterparts in countries where homosexuality is illegal, the
danger of persecution still exists in some states.
One example of persecution is the legal subjection to conversion therapy. Sometimes referred to as
reparative therapy, or Sexual Orientation Change Efforts, conversion therapy historically used
extreme measures such as institutionalization, castration, and electroconvulsive shock therapy in an
effort to change a person s sexual orientation. Today, some counselors still use physical treatments
like aversive conditioning. While less extreme than some methods used in the past, this method is
still void of any scientific validity (The Lies and Dangers of Conversion
The Cowardly Lion
In a small, gray, solemn prairie in Kansas; Dorothy with her dog Toto live in a tiny shack with her
Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. Being in the tornado alley a cyclone is to be expected occasionally.
Seeing an oncoming tornado Dorothy takes shelter in the small shack. To her surprise she feels
the shack lifting off of the ground. As the hours pass Dorothy and Toto try to remain calm and fall
asleep. Upon awakening she noticed the cyclone set her tiny shack down in one piece. Dorothy
also notices that she is in an obviously different place. She walks out in a colorful, magical,
beautiful place. Dorothy was met by a few small men who called themselves munchkins. They
were rejoicing upon Dorothy, because she killed the Wicked Witch of the East. Dorothy was
extremely confused upon this, because she certainly did not remember killing anyone. She turns to
the shack and she sees a pair of legs and silver, sparkling heels sticking out of her shack. All
throughout the story Dorothy just wanted to go home. Dorothy explains she wants to go back home
to Kansas to the munchkins who point her onto the yellow brick road that leads to Oz. The

Essay on An Evaluation of Grease
An Evaluation of Grease

My film that I choose was Grease because it contains music, dancing and humor. It is a cross
between comedy and teen movies. It is a tribute to the Broadway show of the 1950 s. It was
directed by Randal Klieser and was released on July 7th 1978. The music and dance scenes are
what attracted me to Grease. My favorite characters are John Travolta and Jeff Conaway who play
Danny and Kenickie. I like these two because they are your typical high school popular boys who
are always looking out for each other, looking good and they are always trying to get the beautiful
girls but at the same time acting cool like it doesn t bother them. I had high expectations of Grease

Secondly genre is the French word meaning type. Genres may be approached by way of various
critical avenues. In the Aristotelian strain we recognize genres as kinds within a system of
classification. These categories beg further definition, so there is a history of, on the one hand, the
refinement of divisions and subdivisions, and on the other a Platonic search for the essential
qualities of tragedy, comedy, epic poetry, and so forth. By the recognition of genres we begin to
find our way in the universe of verbal artifacts with their feigned discourses, and to train our
expectations upon the experience that lies in wait for us. Grease s genre is a hybrid genre because
it is a cross between a comedy, a teen movie and romantic.

Lastly representation is the act of representing or the state of being represented. Also it is
something that represents an image, an account or statement, an expostulation or a presentation or
production. For example the representation of the characters in Grease varies. Sandy is portrayed
as a pure and innocent girl but on the other hand Rizzo is portrayed as a bad girl who is always
getting into trouble and won t take anything from no one. Also Rizzo is sometimes mean to Sandy
