Johannes Keller Research Paper
Graphic designing was founded by Johannes Gutenberg in 1438. Gutenberg was a German inventor
who developed a method of movable mechanized typing. He used this method to create the printed
book Forty Two Line . Forty Two Line was a bible and also the first major book printed in the
Western world in 1455. According to the article published by Mary Bellis(2016), During the
centuries, many newer printingtechnologies were developed based on Gutenberg s printing machine
e.g offset printing. This quote proves that Gutenberg s invention was the main start of graphic design.

Graphic designing started to evolve in the 20th century. Ernst Keller was considered the founder of
swiss graphic designing. In 1906 Keller was first trained as a draughtsman and lithographer. After 2
years of being trained as a draughtsman and lithographer he became a teacher at a famous art school
named Kunstgewerbeschule . Ernst Keller was most famous for his unique designs on his posters for
several charity organizations. He provided an artistic way for companies and organization to
advertise theirself or their product.([Link]) ... Show more content on

She designed posters and advertised just as Ernst Keller did. Jacqueline studied for a Bachelor of
Fine Arts degree in fashion design and illustration at the Massachusetts College of Art before
graduating in 1949. She was recruited by a fellow alumna to work at the Office of Publications at
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After 17 years of employment she became the
director of the company, designing posters with distinctive features. Jacqueline Casey herself stated
that, My job is to stop anyone I can with an arresting or puzzling image, and entice the viewer to
read the message in small type and above all to attend the exhibition (1998). This quote states that
her job was to catch a viewer s attention with her creative posters that contained decorative
The Comparison Of Godot, By James Beckett
There is a vast literature on interpretations of Godot, encompassing Christian and anti Christian
religion, Freudian and Jungian psychology, and a kitchen sinkful of esoteric and obscure isms. The
undeniable fact is that no one really knows what Godot is about, and the playwright himself clearly
believed that the core of his art lay in the ambiguities resulting from the absence of information,
saying that everything he knew about the characters was in the text and if he knew anything more
about the characters then he would have put it in the text. That Godot is more hole than doughnut
has made it an easy target of parody if not outright ridicule. Beckett evolved his unique literary voice
by distinguishing his style from that of his mentor James Joyce, whom he assisted during the writing
of Finnegans Wake. In almost exactly the opposite way, Joyce grounded his art in fanatically
perfectionist control of his work, leaving no missing pieces or rough edges in stuffing his characters
full to overflowing so that we the readers know more about them than they could possibly know
about themselves.

By far the best biography of Beckett, in my opinion, is by James Knowlson of the University of
Reading, whose 20 year friendship with the playwright led to the donation of notebooks, manuscripts
and other archival material that became the world s leading Beckett archive. Knowlson s title taken
from a passage in Beckett s notebooks is Damned to Fame, neatly encapsulating the
The Persuasiveness of the Captivity Narrative
As the most influential black American author of his time, in The Interesting Narrative of the Life of
Olaudah Equiano, or Gustavas Vassa, the African, Written by Himself, Olaudah Equiano illuminated
for the masses many of the inhumanities and atrocities associated with the slave trade that
previously had been known only to those more intimately involved with it and began an entire new
genre known as the slave narrative. Part of the success of Equiano s narrative must be ascribed to the
familiar themes of capture, captivity, and restoration that he experienced and many had read in one
of the many captivity narratives that were so popular in early Colonial times. One such captivity
narrativethat has many similarities to Equiano s slave... Show more content on [Link] ...
Before Equiano s narrative, slaves were a faceless mass with no individuality or humanity to speak
of. His slave narrative put an individual, educated, Christian face to the ongoing brutality.

Although both Rowlandson and Equiano s narratives were the first and most influential narratives
at the time they were written, the differences between the two are much more significant than their
similarities. The most noticeable difference between the two narratives is the portrayal of the
captors. While Rowlandson demonized her captors and dwelled on every slight that she received,
and even though Equiano received much worse from some of the white men that he encountered,
he often wrote of his admiration for them, their education, and the friendship that was bestowed
upon him. Equiano even wrote of one boy who was particularly nice to him, I regarded [him] ... as
... my friend, whom I loved, and grieved for, as a brother (691). The differences in this portrayal can
be directly ascribed to the different purposes with which the narratives were written. Rowlandson
demonized the Indians partly because she was writing to the Colonialists in an attempt to strengthen
the Colonialists hatred of the Native Americans. In this case it would not have been logical to write
of their virtues. Equiano, however, was trying to get his captors to sympathize with his cause. While

James Baldwin Research Paper
James Baldwin was born on August 2nd, 1924 in Harlem, New York to a young single mother
named Emma Jones. She never talked about James s biological father because of his drug abuse
and she didn t want her baby boy to be put in danger by her ex husband s problems, but Emma
went on to marry a Baptist Minister named David Baldwin when James was about three years old.
James and his stepfather had a strained relationship and even though this was true James still tried
to follow in his stepfather s footsteps. James also referred to his stepfather as his actual father.
When James reached his teen years he served as a youth minister in a Harlem Pentecostal church.
He started at the age of 14 and stopped at the age of 16. As James went through high school, he
demonstrated a true gift for writing and a true love for reading. The high school, he attended was
DeWitt Clinton High School in Bronx New York. Baldwin worked on the school Magazine with

In these times of despair Baldwin had to take any work he could find. One of these jobs was
laying down railroad tracts for the US army in New Jersey. At this time in his life Baldwin had
been facing racial prejudice. He was not being served at bars, and restaurants. So one day Baldwin
decided to walk into a restaurant where he knew he wouldn t be served. When a waitress explained
that Blacks were not served at the restaurant he threw a glass of water shattering a mirror in the

Emergency Responders Face The Difficult Task Of Ensuring...
Emergency responders face the difficult task of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the citizens
they serve. Natural and man made disasters augment the daily threats that responders face. The
threat of disaster poses an especially large risk due to their massive sizes and therefore, additional
susceptibility to hazards. The Kansas Citygovernment created an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
to combat the most likely dangers they are likely to face based off of their Threats, Hazards
Identification Risk Assessment (THIRA). Kansas City is a major metropolitan city that straddles the
border between the states of Missouriand Kansas. The city is situated along the MissouriRiver and

The large population size and business investments presents a personnel and financial hazard to
the city. Kansas City is a major transportation and economic hub that is responsible for millions of
tons of cargo passing in and out annually worth trillions. The city is in the heart of the Midwest
and is vulnerable to tornadoes and snow storms. Man made disasters are also a constant hazard
due to the sports teams that attract tens of thousands of visitors. The Kansas City government
identifies possible risks and hazards they face by conducting a THIRA. The last publicly available
THIRA was from the year 2012 and was conducted by the Mid America Regional Council on
Homeland Security. The THIRA: lists a total of eight natural and man made disasters that the city
believes is possible, identifies goals and objectives in combating these threats, and indicates timelines
for completing the goals. The eight scenarios listed are: tornado, severe winter weather, HAZMAT
release, IED/armed terrorist attack, cybersecurity, emerging infectious disease, anthrax, and
waterway bridges (KC, p. 1). The commonality shared between the disasters that the city has
identified is that they could potentially affect a large percentage of the population. Consequently,
they will require a joint response effort from multiple agencies and possibly from multiple
jurisdictions as well. The THIRA
The Electric Bill And The Critical Peaks- Unequal Prices...

For a better understanding of the topic, we start off with some overviews about an average electric
bill, mainly focus on the breakdown of total charge, the rate, and learn about the critical peak.
The electric bill includes many different parts. Based on the information from Eversource, they are:
Customer Charge: This represents the costs of providing services such as metering, billing and
account maintenance. These are fixed costs and are not affected by the actual amount of electricity
used.
Distribution Charge: This represents the cost of delivering electricity over wires to your home.
Transition Charge: This represents the cost of past investments in generating plants and power
contracts.
Transmission Charge: This represents the cost of moving electricity over high power lines from a
generating plant to Ever source s service area.
Renewable Energy Charge: This represents a charge from the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust
Fund to increase the availability of renewable energy.
Energy Conservation Charge: This covers the cost of energy efficiency programs.
Supplier Services This portion of your bill represents charges associated with the supply of
electricity only. Because power is bought in an open market, this section of your bill tends to
fluctuate more than the distribution charges on your bill.

Imperialism In The Time Machine
The Values of British Imperialism: Implications on a Futuristic Society
H.G. Wells The Time Machine recounts the trip of a scientist, the Time Traveller, from Victorian
England to the future where humanity has been reduced to two sub species: the Eloi and the
Morlock. The novella examines how key values of Victorian England, such as self improvement,
shape the social structure of the Victorian period and the cascading effects of these values on the
society of the future. In the Victorian social pyramid, the upper class, white, educated male was at
the top. In this social hierarchy, under this Victorian male, were the rest of the English workers and
the women. This social structure also applied to the colonies that England controlled. These ... Show

The Time Traveller is disappointed with how the Eloi had the same form of costume, same
hairless visage and the same girlish rotundity of limb (24); the Eloi lacked individualism and
masculinity. This accounts for part of the Time Traveller s disappointment. The other part of the
Time Traveller s disappointment stems from his frustration with the course of evolution because he
believes that humanity has moved toward contented inactivity (28). In the eyes of the Time
Traveller, the Eloi society does not equate to Victorian society in regards to the overall complexity
and intellect just as the imperialistic British thought the societies of their colonies did not have the
same complexity and intellect as Victorian England. This parallel leads the Time Traveller to treat
the natives of the future, the Eloi and the Morlock, just like the British treated the native of their
colonies, with complete disrespect. The two groups of the future act very differently towards the
Time Traveller. As Cantor and Hufnagel describe the two sub species, there is a good tribe and a
bad tribe (38), which in The Time Machine are the Eloi and the Morlock respectively. The good
tribe in this novella is pleasant towards the Time Traveller, providing basic necessities for his
survival. In regards to the Morlock, the bad tribe, the Time

Management agreed that policies and protocols needed to be evaluated yearly to stay current on
competency level requirements of respiratory therapists. Management agreed that willingness to ask
questions and ability to communicate with patients and doctors were important critical thinking
skills necessary for treatment of patients in ICU and ED. Management also agreed that it is
important to be self reliant and capable of thinking outside the box. Management agreed that the
yearly competency evaluations helped improve/validate competency with currently practicing
respiratory therapists.
Discussion
Respiratory therapists have failed to continue their education for various reasons including: our
license does not require further education at this time, it is a financial burden for families
especially if it is not something that is part of job requirements, and there are not many programs
available for bridging an associate degree with a bachelor degree.
Personal Reflection Of Gender And Language
I first got my start in linguistics by accident. I did not foresee that one introductory linguistics class
taken on a whim would change my life. What caught my attention the most was our unit on
pragmatics and semantics. From that class, I ve gone on to major in linguistics and even conduct
my own research in the field. I was given the opportunity to participate on a research team analyzing
children s acquisition of resultative adjectives. Our team ended up presenting at Eastern Michigan
University s Undergraduate Symposium. We also submitted an application to the 11th Annual
Cornell University Undergraduate Linguistic Colloquium, and were accepted to do an oral
presentation. Since I am working on a senior thesis at the moment, I have also been conducting
research of my own. I am studying the usage of the construction yeah, no and no, yeah. Though the
process, I have learned a lot about how to conduct research and also how to write an academic thesis.
My plans for graduate study are heavily influenced by the classes I have taken during my time in
undergrad. As I mentioned before, I fell in love with pragmatics and semantics. Along with that, I
found a passion for sociolinguistics. There are two classes in particular that have sparked my interest.
The first was a class about women and language. Though it was titled women, it was really about the
relationship between gender and language. We talked about linguistic stereotypes based on a person
s gender and how they are
Famous All Over Town by Danny Santiago Essay
Every individual has times in their life where they feel isolated and alone. When this occurrs a
person will search for ways to connect or feel important.. The person will do anything they can to be
noticed and appreciated. In the novel, Famous All Over Town, by Danny Santiago the main
character, Chato, has many reasonsto feel lonely. In almost every aspect of his life he is being let
down in one way or another. He has to try to deal with a familyon the brink of falling apart, he has
to go to a school which doesn t teach anything fun, and he has friends that are a bad influence on
him. The novel reveals how he has to endure hardships, most of us do not have, to get through a day.

After awhile his family starts disintegrating even more, especially after Chato finds out his dad
had an affair with the crazy woman of the neighborhood. All this begins to take its toll on Chato.
The sun was shining on my face. Nobody had answered my prayers for rain. I lay there asking
myself What next. What next. (277) If Chato had a more understanding family that didn t find it
necessary to keep secrets from one another he might not feel so let down. He would know that he
had a loving and supporting family to go home to and he feels he doesn t have that.

Next, when high school students go to school each morning they hope they are going to learn
new and interesting things. It is a different situation at Chato s school. Students are told to do
work that is very much like the work one would do in elementary school. Teachers don t have
very high expectations of students at Chato s school. For instance, when Chato s class begins
reading a book Chato is asked by his teacher to guess what will happen in the next chapter. He
guesses correctly. Chato s teacher believes that he must have read ahead even though he hasn t.
Rudy, I m afraid you read the next chapter. I denied it. Rudy, she sang my mane, you re not being

Notes On Acids And Bases
Topic: Acids and Bases.

Introduction
Acids are chemical agents that, when mixed with water, release hydrogen ions. Acids have a pH
of under 7 on the pH scale.(Williams, 2016) An acid produces a sour taste, like Vinegar, and gives
off a strong smell, that burns the human nose. Acids are often very sticky, and react strongly with
metals, and create a chemical reaction to form H2. (Guch, 2003) A Base is the complete opposite of
an Acid, and describes a substance that is above 7 on the pH scale. Bases have a more higher
potential than Acids to accept Hydrogen Ions. This means that rather than releasing ions, as an
Acid would, a Base accepts the ions.(Morrissey, 2016) Similar to Acids, Bases provide a Bitter
taste, like Cocoa Beans, or Bicarb Soda. Bases, unlike Acids, do not usually give off a distinct
smell, but are usually quite slippery. Bases react with most oils and fats, such as Detergent reacting
with human skin, and slowly breaking down the oils and fats in the skin tissue.(Guch, 2003)
The universal indicator is used for specifying whether a substance is a Base, Neutral, or an Acid
along the pH scale, by measuring the concentration of H3O+ ions in a substance. (N.a, 2016) The
pH scale is a scale that determines whether a substance is an Acid product, or a Basic product. The
H in pH stands for Hydrogen, however, the p is often debated, therefore is thought of as the power
of the hydrogen. (Morrissey, 2016) The pH scales ranges from ranking between 0 (Being more
