Permafrost
Imagine a beautiful, snow white, artic climate full of polar bears, narwhals, reindeer, artic foxes,
walruses, snow owls, orca/killer whales and maybe even a herd or two of moose. Now picture a
toxic, poisonous gas, slowly seeping from the earth into the habitats these creatures call home. This
narrative is not some new Hollywood blockbuster ready to shatter summer records; this is the reality
of artic and sub arctic climates around the globe. Permafrost regions of the arctic naturally release
methanefrom the sea, ice and soils. However, exacerbation by global warming has caused methane
to be released at a greater rate than previous decades/centuries. In 2013 it was estimated that 17
million tonnes of methane was released by land based arctic permafrost, a fourfold increase from
2006 estimates. The EPA estimates 620 million tonnes were released in 2013 causing the permafrost
to be responsible for a small 2.7%. Another whopping 60% of CH4 emissions comes from human
activities which include industry, agriculture and waste management activities. This leaves us with
several questions. How can we reduce methane emissions? How can we capture 620 million tonnes
and use it for good? What are the benefits of this? One thing that most reasonable people should be
able to agree upon is that 620 million tonnes of methane released into the atmosphere... Show more

For industry/commercial businesses, they should update their equipment/machines they used to
produce and or store as well as transport oil and gas. This will substantially diminish many of the
leaks that contribute to methane emissions. Methane released by coal mines can/should also be
captured and used for energy. This eliminates methane from releasing into the atmosphere, which
would further contribute to global warming and the greenhouse effect. In the agricultural side,
methane emissions can be reduced and/or captured by changing manure
Jacques Louis David Essay
David was the virtual art dictator of France for a generation. Extending beyond painting, his
influence determined the course of fashion, furniture design, and interior decoration and was
reflected in the development of moral philosophy. His art was a sudden and decisive break with
tradition, and from this break modern artis dated.

David studied with Vien, and after winning the Prix de Rome (which had been refused him four
times, causing him to attempt suicide by starvation) he accompanied Vien to Italy in 1775. His
pursuit of the antique, nurtured by his time in Rome, directed the classical revival in French art. He
borrowed classical forms and motifs, predominantly from sculpture, to illustrate a sense of virtue he
mistakenly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Restoration David spent his last years in Brussels. As a portraitist he was at his most
distinguished, although he belittled this painting genre. Using living, rather than sculptured models,
he allowed his spontaneous sentiment to be revealed. In these last years his portraits, such as
Antoine Mongez and His Wife Angelica (1812; Lille) and Bernard (1820; Louvre) are enormously
vital and in them the seeds of the new romanticism are clearly discernible.

Jacques Louis David was born into a prosperous middle class family in Paris on August 30, 1748. In
1757 his mother left him to be raised by his uncles after his father was killed.

He was never a good student in school in his own words, I was always hiding behind the instructors
chair, drawing for the duration of the class .

When David was 16 he began studying art at the Acad eacute;mie Royale under the rococo painter
J. M. Vien. After many unsuccessful attempts, he finally won the Prix de Rome in 1774, and on the
ensuing trip to Italy he was strongly influenced by classical art and by the classically inspired work
of the 17th century painter Nicolas Poussin. David quickly evolved his own individual neoclassical
style, drawing subject matter from ancient sources and basing form and gesture on Roman sculpture.
His famous Oath of the Horatii was consciously intended as a proclamation of the new neoclassical
style in which
The Lifetime Of A Nuclear Power Plant Essay
The lifetime of a nuclear power plant is planned to be 40 years. Recently there are trails to raise this
life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime
components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences
affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting
and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure
Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only component
in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is considered
essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative margin for
fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either normal
operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal Shock
(PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for long times
that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement predictions (7).
Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes increasing
emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation
embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning
nuclear piping the main degradation
The Shawnee Tribe
The Shawnee Tribe was one of the Native American tribes living in the Pennsylvania Colony
during the 1700 s. One of the many activates that the Shawnees would do is move to large villages
in the summer time to be close to one another. All the men, women, and children would go to these
villages in the summer time and build their homes. They build the houses out of bark log trees. The
council house for meeting in one of the biggest building in the village. The council is where they
take part in religious ceremonies, and meetings. The Shawnees have many dogs that they use as pack
animals while they are out looking for food, things for their houses, and miscellaneous things.
Canoes are the form of transportation used by Shawnees living

Therefore, it is necessary to introduce the artificial pinning centers (APCs) into the YBCO films.
At present, a lot of attempts have been taken for the improvement of JC, such as substrate surface
decoration, impurity addition, and RE addition or substitution. A substantial amount of work in
recent years has been focused on the introduction of artificial pinning defects by a self assembly
process such as BaZrO3, BaSnO3, BaIrO3, BaHfO3 and Ba2YNbO6[5] defects. Nanophase
additions can also be classified as one, two, and three dimensional artificial pinning centers (1D
APC, 2D APC, 3D APC). 1D APC s display linear defects, and include BSO and BZO nanorods.
2D APC s display planar defects, and include small angle grain boundaries, anti phase boundaries,
and surfaces of large precipitates.3D APC s result from nano particles, such as Y2O3[4].

The key driving force for alignment of such BZO nanodots into columns oriented along the c axis is
the minimization of the misfit strain arising from

the lattice mismatch of BZO with YBCO. In other words, a certain minimum level of misfit strain
provides the necessary driving force for self assembly to occur. We have recently found that lattice
mismatches in the range of 5 12 % generates adequate misfit strains required for the self assembly[6].
The experimental and simulation results showed that lattice mismatches below this range do not
result in enough misfit strains and hence no
The Gift By Ian Parker
We Should Set Limits on Moral Obligation
In The Gift, Ian Parker discusses a personal story of a man named Zell Kravinsky that had given
almost his entire fortune and kidney under moral obligation. The big question that will be evaluated
in this paper is there important limits to how much do gooding morality can ask of us? If so, how
much can it ask of us to sacrifice for others? This question had placed great influence on Zell
Kravinsky story and it is important we evaluate his arguments for moral obligation can ask of us.
In this essay I intend to recognize the infraction that moral obligation puts on decisions such as
nondirected organ donation. The boundary Zell Kravinsky set an moral obligation should be
avoided because his actions were not entirely moral, and placed harm on his well being. Zell does
limit to the amount of good deeds that need to be done to live morally. He suggests that he is
driven by what he calls mathematical calculus of utilitarianism which gave him the drive to be
the greatest good. What he calls his romantic self, which gives him the urge to make charitable
acts excessive. On many accounts Zell is described as depressed. He is not suicidal, but depressed
because he has not done enough. When Zell speaks to his friend, he explains that you do not need
to feel good in order to be good
But it s the other way around: if you do good, you become better. With each thing I ve given away,
I ve been more certain of the need to give more away.
Ex Machina Research Paper
The relationship with the creators and robots can be described as binary opposition in the film
and text. In the film the Nathan ended up inventing a robot that later gets him killed. This is
ironic because Nathan thought he was in control of her but he was not she was able to escape.
Ava in a way was in control of Nathan and Caleb more given the fact she was being fed with the
information bluebook provided her. Furthermore, gender roles are crucial in the film as well.
Nathan only created robotics that appeared female. In a way the female robots were put to use and
did not have an opinion; Nathan seem to be in control of the women. This is a resemblance of
patriarchy; when a man holds the power and women are excluded from voicing any of their... Show

Robotics makes humans life easier and sometimes even save lives. But it can also cause harm to
society because of malfunctioning. As explained the way technology has advanced so have robots
this changes the definition of post human. The definition of post human could not been redefined
without these advancements. Ava and Radius are examples of how technology has an influence on
them however due to certain consequence s they cause destruction. This brings up the discussion
should artificial intelligence be given to robots? This is also demonstrated in West World, which has
similar ideologies to both the film and text. In West World robots are engineered to appear identical
to humans, artificial intelligence is also given to them. Certain characters slowly begin to realize the
truth about their world and start to rebel against the humans. Which is exactly what happens in
(R.U.R) and Ex Machina, the way that they are created and how they communicate with humans is
essential. Both characters acquire artificial consciences about the situation they are in, and the result
of that is Ava and Radius causing destruction that humanity
How Is Anarres A Utopian Society
To answer the question, How is the utopian society Anarres structured, one can attack it at many
ways. First one can look at the cultural context of the time period in which the novel was written.
LeGuin wrote The Dispossessed in 1974. One can argue that the community of Anarres was in
inspired by the social movements of the late 1960 s and early seventies. The civil rights movement,
the feminist movement, the environmental movement, and the 60 s counter culture or hippie values
are all reflected in the culture and society of Anarres.

Anarres is a society of anarchists. The society was formed after a revolution and war against the
centralized government and plutocracies of Urras. On Anarres every one was created equal because

Although refusing posting is met with great disapproval and rejection from their peers. An
Anarrasti s incentive to work is not a need for money, finances or the desire for profit but they
take pride and pleasure in completing tasks and working with others. A person likes to do what he
is good at doing. People take the dangerous, hard jobs because they take pride in doing them, they
can egoize (they call it) or show off to the weaker. Its is the opinion of they neighbor that becomes
the all mighty driving force. The private and social conscience knows that, there is no other reward,
on Anarres, no law. One s own pleasure, and the respect of one s fellows, that is all they have.

This relationship between the individual and society is later recognized as the bureaucratic machine
(centralized government) that these Anarchists fight against. The Anarresian people can not refuse
a posting (order by PDC) because they are ashamed. The social conscience completely dominates
the individual conscience, in stead of striking a balance. We don t cooperate we obey. We fear
being outcast, being called lazy, dysfunctional, eoizing, as Shevek once pointed out, We fear our
neighbors opinion more than we respect our own freedom. Because this was part of there thinking
the Anaressian people could not see these laws, laws of conventional behavior
Eye Movement Reprocessing
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence based, trauma focused,
psychotherapy. Research shows that there were also successful outcomes using EMDR to treat an
extensive range of psychiatric and mental health disorders. EMDR is a distinct form of
psychotherapy, with the treatment emphasis focused directly on processing memories that were
incorrectly stored in the patients mind. Incomplete processing means that a traumatic event has been
stored in memory as it was originally experienced with the emotions, physical sensations, and beliefs
that the individual had during the experience (Shapiro, Laliotis, 191). Through EMDR, there are a
unique set of standardized procedures and clinical protocols that include bilateral... Show more

There are a wide range of clinical documentation that proves the effectiveness of EDMR in
independent evaluations. In a study of ten child molesters who had been victimized themselves as
children, after six EMDR memory processing sessions, ninety percent of them demonstrated a
prevalent reduction of arousal to children. It is also reported that they were also able to recognize
the harm that they caused their victims, and accepted the responsibility for their actions. The
treatment effects were maintained at a one year follow up (Shapiro, Laliotis,
Essay about Theological Virtue of Charity
Saint Thomas Aquinas is one of the people accredited for having brought theology into the limelight.
However, though theology existed long before the emergence of philosophers and fathers if the
church, individualistic drives such as those of Aquinas brought a deeper understanding into the
mysteries of theology. Modern day theology would not have gotten any bearing without the impact
of philosophers and scholars who simplified the understanding of theological concepts. While it
cannot be independently verified what the motivation was behind the interest in theology, it is clear
that theology is what it is because of the input of the philosophers and scholars (Thomas Pegis,
1997). Aquinas, being motivated into the world of theology,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Aquinas sought to use the same writings and thoughts to further his agenda for making clear his
thoughts. Aristotle based his arguments on the goodness of man. He noted that the man has to
develop from within an aspect of being admired based on the characters that are not as
controversial. In essence, he meant that it is critical for people to leave a life that is a mirror to
others and other generations to come. Aquinas borrowed this concept of the understanding of man to
outline the essence of theological value of ethics. In his arguments, Aquinas noted that for one to
achieve some level of charity from the perspective of theology, two things were critical. Faith and
hope, according to him covered a wide area in understanding or attaining some charity and moral
standards. Virtues, according to Aquinas are the driving force towards achieving some certain telo .
Human beings are ever in pursuit of happiness and as such are always motivated to identify such
things that bring about wellbeing. To this end, Aristotle talked about Beatitudes as a means through
which human beings derive their happiness. According to Aquinas, virtues that are theological in
nature drive the human race towards the supernatural while the other virtues drive people to achieve
some specific ends. The theological values that include faith, hope and charity drive people to God.
In essence, he sought to distinguish the theological virtues and the other virtues. The distinction was

These beneficial effects continued in calcitonin group for one year.

Limitations: The present study patients would be graded as having mild or at worst moderate
stenosis. So, the present study did not examine the efficacy of epidural calcitonin in severe spinal
canal stenosis and did not stratify the results according to degree of stenosis which would also have
been useful in determining the validity of calcitonin in different degrees of stenosis. Conclusion:
mixing calcitonin to epidural local anesthetic and steroid injection looks to be more effective than
epidural steroid and local anesthesia alone in treatment of spinal canal stenosis regarding better
Oswestry scale increased, walking distance and decreased pain intensity and feeling of paresthesia,
and less analgesic use, all the above mentioned benefits continued to up one year. So, epidural
calcitonin is considered as a new modalitity therapeutic way in the management of pain in spinal

What Is The Reflection Of The Movie Flubber
During the movie flubber, I made connections to this year s physical science class. The following
topics are discussed in this essay, polymers, physical properties, raditation, renewable engery,
other types of energy, flight, and real world possibilities. In the beginning of the movie it talks
about a propulsive polymer , and we learned about polymers in chapter twenty four. We learned
that a polymer is a substance that has a molecular structure consisting of a large number of similar
units bonded together called monomers. These monomers must have been in a perfect
combination to have these unique properties that makes flubber seem to be a fantasy object. The
professor could modify these monomers to make the flubber have many other properties. The
substance also has unlimited uses and possibilities, because it can be applied anywhere easily.
The properties of flubber are ductile, moldable, foldable, can phase shift, ticklish, gullible, and
elastic. It also says it s an elastomer which is a natural or synthetic polymer having elastic
properties, such as rubber. Flubber is also green. The temperature in which the flubber was formed
may have affected the color of the substance. When making flubber the professor used his hair as a
catalyst, which gave flubber human like properties. The professor made new life, which rewrites
all the laws of physics. This year we learned about radiation and it was inferred that flubber is very
reactive to gamma radiation. We know this,
Analysis Of The Funeral Dress By Susan Gregg Gilmore
The Funeral Dress, by Susan Gregg Gilmore, is a beautifully written novel about a young girl
living in harsh conditions and how she thrives with her newborn child. Emmalee Bullard, the main
character in the novel, lives with her father in a two bedroom house that lacks certain necessities
like heat and running water. At 16 she gets a job sewing collars at a factory, which is where she
meets the women that influence her life heavily and change her into the person she is today.
Emmalee struggles a lot as a motherthroughout the novel, but her character grows substantially from
the beginning to the end of the story. In the novel, the protagonist, Emmalee Bullard, has grown in
character by standing up to her town, standing up to the Fultons and
