Lord Of The Flies Reflection Essay
Behavior is the mirror in which everyone shows their image. This insightful quote, written by
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, relates to the story of The Lord of the Flies greatly. A person s
true color shines through when put in a place of freedom. The story, by William Golding, is about
a group of boys stranded on an island during the war. They fight to survive and their morals
change a lot in the process; both physically and mentally. The ways their appearances change was
parallel to the ways their behaviors change, including their filth and metaphorical filth, their
painted faces and sense of community, and their ways of dress compared to their rebellious
actions. The way the filth grew on the boys was parallel to the way their behaviors increased in
filth . As time went on, the filth slowly built up on their skin and in their hair They were slowly
covered in grease and dirt. Their behaviors grew in a similar manner; the boys soon grew to make
poor decisions and act very aggressively. The newly found filth and behavior was accepted among
the group as their time on the island increased. Their filth was a normal part of their lives and
everyone was okay with it. Ralph was running from the other boys and hiding in the woods, His
hair was full of dirt and tapped like the tendrils of a creeper (Golding 235). He could not get the
same amount of cleanliness while he was out in the woods. Their behaviors changed and they began
to accept the killings for food and other
The Challenges And Consequences Of The Norman De Veres
PART ONE. The Norman De Veres Aubrey de Vere, Albericus de Vere, de Veer, the first Aubrey
de Vere, Aubrey the Monk, Chamberlain and Queen s Chamberlain Although it is often said that
the de Vere family came across with William at the time of the Conquest, it is more likely that the
de Vere family were in England as landowners from around 1000 AD, being related to the Frankish
knight, Godfroi de Vere and the Norman knight Alphonsus de Vere. This does not preclude
Albericus from being at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, as recounted by contemporary historians,
since many Norman knights gathered to William s standard from all around Europe. Albericus
Vere, and his wife Beatrix, bearing the royal emblem of Anjou and the quartered shield of de Vere

These lands lay principally along the valleys of the Colne and the Stour, straddling the Essex
Suffolk border and controlling the ports of Dovercourt and Colchester, as well as the main roads
from London into northern East Anglia and the Lincolnshire fens. Aubrey seems to have made his
headquarters at Hengham, now known as Hedingham, standing between two Roman roads and
close to the river. He built a motte and bailey castle a raised mound with wooden palisade defences
and a ditch surrounding it. A reconstructed castle of this type can be found near to Hedingham at
Stansted Mountfitchet. He also built a castle at Great Canfield, whose earthworks can still be seen,
and possibly one at Castle Camps on the Cambridgeshire border, marked again by

The Internet Has a Negative Impact on American Families

Does the Internet truly have a negative impact on today s family life? Many say that is most
definitely does. Have you ever known someone who is obsessed with the Internet or spends more
time on the Internet than they had intended to? You might begin to think they are addicted. Ricco
Siasoco defines Internet addiction as a broad term including users addicted to chat rooms, auctions,
web surfing, among others. These other Internet addictions may include cyber relationships, gaming,
and trading. I have read several articles related to Internet addiction, and can not come to a
conclusion on whether or not it is a true addiction. However, I do believe that the ... Show more

I can not understand why people would even do such a thing as have a cyber relationship. One of
Cooper s clients explains, For me it was the newness that every relationship brings. A major issue
about these online affairs is that they are kept secret from the important people in one s life and
end in broken family ties. In Marc Levenson s article, Overcoming Cybersex Addiction, he declares
that cybersex is not recognized as a formal psychiatric disorder. But many clinics...treat Internet sex
addicts. Jay Parker of The Internet Addiction Institute says, Therapy resembles the twelve step
program of Alcoholics Anonymous. Addicts learn to abstain a lifetime pledge to avoid any sex online.

Another addicting feature of the Internet in online gaming. In general, web designers know how
to lure users to participate in their sites, whether it is signing up for free materials or registering
to join a game room. The article on Clear Lead Inc. s web site tries to explain why some people
become addicted to gaming. Leonard Holmes states, There are indications that pleasurable games
and activities cause the body to produce endogenous opiates such as endorphins. These substances
are actually addictive. Could this be the reason why people get hooked on playing Internet games?
The article also points out that Many of these games require players to concentrate and be able to go

Analysis Of I Don t Have A Mama
1. See, I said, you don t have any family and neither do I. I ve got the preacher, of course. But I don
t have a mama. I mean I have one, but I don t know where she is. She left when I was three years
old. I can t hardly remember her. And I bet you don t remember your mama much either. So we re
almost like orphans pg 21. Opal say this to Winn Dixie when Opal takes him into their home and
considers him a familymember. The quote makes the image of her and Winn Dixie s lives very
lonely and sad. This makes me think she has no one to talk to and that her father is just there.
Why doesn t she count her father as family? The image makes it look like her father is not
emotionally connected to her and she need more love in her life. The reason why I can connect and
relate to the book is because I only have a mother. I grew up in a single parenthousehold. My father
pasted away when I was Twelve years old. I didn t even know my father that well even in those
Twelve years. I can relate with Opal not being able to recall anything about a parent. My mother
doesn t talk about my father so it is hard to know things and to know what and how she is thinking.
Opal can relate to this because her father doesn t talk much about her mother either. Whenever my
mother does say something I will keep it in my memories forever because it s the only things I have
to hold on to about my father. Opal did the same thing when her father told her ten things about her
mother. Opal and I
Essay Meriwether Lewis the Leader
Lewis the Leader Meriwether Lewis is the main reason that the United States territory extends
from the Atlantic Ocean all the way to the Pacific Ocean ( Meriwether Lewis 2). He has done
many great things, but he is best known for exploring the American West (1). He was a great man
full of bravery. Meriwether faced tons of dangers in his life but he overcame all of them. Lewis
helped change the face of the United Statesby exploring uncharted territory the American West (
Meriwether Lewis 2).

Lewis had a very interesting life and he showed it in a countless number of ways. According to

Lewis was very brave when he fought off a group of Blackfeet Indians after being attacked (1). The
Corps stayed over the winter at Oregon after they reached the Pacific Ocean and then returned home
to complete their approximately 8,000 mile journey. When the group returned Thomas Jefferson was
excited and he payed Lewis with a salary, 1,600 acres of land, and he was named governor of the
Louisiana Territory. Sadly he died on October 12, 1809, near Nashville Tennessee, where he
committed suicide, but some people think he may have been murdered (2).

Meriwether Lewis had some outstanding ideals that he pursued in his lifetime and he showed
several examples of these ideals. According to Frances Hunter, Lewis was a mason which is not
really a religion but it supports a supreme being. Frances Hunter also states that he gave a sermon
for the death of Charles Floyd and the Corps of Discovery celebrated Christmas with dancing and a
feast. Gary Moulton says that Meriwether told the Native Americans the two groups should remain
friends and Thomas Jefferson would watch over them (223). Lewis wanted to explore America and
he reached his goal by being hardworking and determined (222b).

Meriwether Lewis should be in the history hall of fame because he did many great things for
America and contributed to its expansion. Gary Moulton believes he claimed the Oregon region for
America (222b). Lewis led to
Refecting Images of the Body with Computed Tomography
Question 1: The computed tomography (CT) scan is a procedure that uses x rays and digital
technology to construct conception of the body. It can make a reflection of every part of the body,
for example bone and blood vessels.CT scans are used to examine the inner structures of the body
which cannot be seen by human eye.Examples are blood cots or tumors.CT scan can also be used
to measure precisely the density of bone in assess osteoporosis.

Question 2: The writers draw out that CT scans can be useful and harmful to us.CT scans can be
used to detect the diseases in your body but at the same time,it can also harm our body due to the
expose to radiation which can possibly cause cancer.CT scans is good at identifying diseases fast for
the patient to get treatment immediately but it is actually giving out lots of radiation which may
cause cancer.CT scans is indifferent depending on the situation.

Question 3: CT scan is a fast and painless way to diagnose diseases which human eyes cannot
detect.Although CT scan is not a cure for the disease but it is sure to facillate the diagnosis. This is
important as it may be used to detect life threatening diseases which may need an immediate
treatment.People normally abuses the use of CT scans and these people may have a higher chance
of getting cancer as they are exposed to a huge amount of radiation. The more and often you are
exposed to radiation, the higher chance you would probably get cancer.Although CT scans is
Strength Training
The benefit of strength and strength training for footballers is well supported by research. For
example, De Proft and colleagues had one group of Belgian professionals perform extra weight
training during the season. Compared to a control group of colleagues who did no extra training,
the players improved their kicking power and leg strength. Reilly (1990)[2] showed that the
stronger players outlasted the weaker players in terms of a regular place in the team, and had
reduced injury risks. He recommends that leg strength in particular is developed, especially in the
quadriceps and hamstrings, to help stabilise the knee joint, which is the most frequently injured joint
in football. Apor (1998)[3], a Hungarian researcher who has been involved... Show more content on

These exercises demand a high force of contraction in response to a rapid loading of lengthening
muscles. For this reason, they should be more accurately called reversible action or rebound
exercises. The training effort increases the force production in the muscles, but the movements are
performed at faster speeds than weight training exercises. Thus rebound exercises are more specific
to the sprinting and jumping movements in football. These exercises should be done in 3 5 sets of 8
repetitions for each leg, with at least one minute s rest between sets. The quality and speed of the
movement is the priority. The other training element that is required for improving sprinting speed is
sprinting itself. This should be done with maximum efforts over 30 60m. Again, at least one minute
s rest between runs should be allowed so that quality can be maintained. Remember, with this kind of
training the aim is to develop the maximum speed; endurance should not become a factor. Sprinting
done uphill, with weighted jackets, or towing weights is also useful because it adds resistance to the
sprint movement, placing greater load on the muscles in the most specific manner. Again, short
distances with long rests are
Pastoral Conversation Of A Confessional Nature
moving a chair to the front of the church so that a member could lead worship while sitting and
without having to navigate the stairs to the lectern. 5) Will you regard all pastoral conversation
of a confessional nature as a trust between the person concerned and God? Yes I will, unless they
are an imminent threat to themselves or another person. I am up front about that caveat before I
have any conversation with someone seeking counsel. 6) Provide evidence of experience in
peace and justice ministries. Our church hosts JFON (Justice for our Neighbors) every month. I
have been able to attend some of these events as well as support it through sharing information
with the congregation about the valuable work they do. I referred an attendee of our church to
JFON for help with getting a work ID number and now he is the janitor at our churches. We have
started Handcrafted Hope which is a fair trade and local artisan gift shop in the church. We
continue to expand it and to educate people on the value of knowing where your money is going.
We are planning to host a racism workshop in the Columbus Junction church the beginning of next
year. Lately myself and other members of the local ministerial association have joined the
advisory board for our local Community Action Program. We are working together to create
awareness of the programs available at CAP and have raised money specifically to be used for
emergency housing needs. 2 4 pages for the Historical question 1.
How Does Cordelia Treat Lear
In this passage the reader gets a true glimpse at Cordelia s ethics and morals and view towards
love and affection. Instead of giving Lear what he wants to hear and express her love in a
childish. Cordelia honestly tells Lear that she will save half of her love for her husband and the
other half for her father. This modesty causes Lear to disown Cordelia and for him to take away
the dowry he was going to give to Cordelia. The first line. Good my Lord has a conation that
Cordelia treats Lear more like a god or ruler than a father. Even thought this was the correct thing
to do during this time period it still shows how Cordelia views or is forced to call her father a lord.
So at the beginning of this speech Cordelia starts it with a very ornate and politically correct
entrances instead of speaking from the heart.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cordellia is praising the physical things Lear has done for her, You have begot me, bred me, loved
me She is talking about common parental shows of affection and they all happened in the past.
Cordelia feels that she is too old to buy into any of this fake praise like a child as her two sisters are
doing. She will still be a respectful daughter to Lear, Obey you, love you, and most honor you.
However, this has a voice and connotations that Corderlia is forced to do this and if it was up to
her she would not be loving or honor Lear. Cordelia says she has a obligation to give some of her
love to her husband, Haply, when I shall wed, / That lord whose hand must take my plight shall
/carry. However this is very pretentious of Cordelia because she is not even married at this point
and is only hypothetical. So she could not even profess her love to her dying father. She is even
being rude to Lear because she is saying that her love for Lear can not go up but rather adjusts with
her current

British Colonization Of India Essay
Historical Context and Background
British involvement on the Indian subcontinent began early in the 17th Century through the British
East India Company and its business ventures and dealings. The early British Empire was
composed of several self governing colonies which had been settled in by British civilians, and
colonial policy was one of salutary neglect (Brown 2010). It is not unfair to say that Britain s
relationship with India was one of political subordination, but economic exploitation formed the core
of this relationship. The colonisation of India by the British Empire was clearly geared to benefit the
mother country, even at the cost of the colony (Modern India 2010).
Colonial exploitation was carried out through three distinct phases over time. The first phase of
mercantilism, which took place between 1757 and 1813, was one of direct plunder in which
surplus Indian revenues were used to buy Indian finished goods to be exported back to Britain
(Modern India 2010). In the second phase, from 1813 to 1858, India was converted into a source
of raw material and a market for British goods. The third and final phase from 1858 onwards, was
one of finance imperialism in which British capital began to control Indian banks, foreign trading
firms and managing agencies in India. This phased exploitation was carried out through a range of
economic policies, primarily in the industrial and agricultural sectors of the colonial economy of
India (Modern History 2010).

Rhetorical Analysis Of Seeing And Making Culture
Rhetorical Analysis: Seeing and Making Culture
In Seeing and Making Culture: Representing the Poor by Bell Hooks, issues involving the poor and
the rich in the society are brought to light. Hooks addresses issues such as how the poor are viewed
in the community, common assumptions about the poor, and how the poor are represented in the
media. In her analysis, it is evident that those living in poverty are grossly misrepresented. This
misrepresentation affects these people s daily lives.
Hooks first argument stems from the false assumptions that she has encountered about the poor. She
takes us years back to her college days where students and professors were labeled as mindless,
unworthy, shiftless, dishonest, and lazy (paragraph5). To her, those experiences were a culture shock
because having being brought up in poverty, she had always been taught that there is no
correlation between poverty and personal integrity. Furthermore, a person could be a hard worker
and still be poor. The values of a human being can t and should not be based on material
possessions. She states that it is horrifying to think that the poor have no values. According to Bell
Hooks, had it not been for the upbringing in a poor household, she would neither be the prolific
writer that she is nor have good values. All the aforementioned assumptions indicate how lowly the
United States contemporary society regards the poor. The poor are never portrayed as who they
really are.
