The Color Of Skin, Past Ancestry, And Place Of Living
No matter how alike people may be, segregation is a way of living. As humans we typically find
ourselves separated into groups that we can identify with; from being athletic, to being artistic
and even a person s religion. Another path to separation taken by many is by a person s race. One s
race can be described in a variety of ways; color of the skin, past ancestry, and place of origin.
Discrimination is normally placed with race; this can either be a privilege or a disadvantage.
A race can be described as a group of people identified as distinct from other groups because of
supposed physical or genetic traits shared by the group. The color of one s skin is the identifier
that most of us use to distinguish ones race. The color of skin can reveal a lot about a person. It
can tell about their origin. People in Northern Europe or Japan tend to have lighter skin than
people whose ancestors are from sub Saharan Africa or Australia because the difference in sun
exposure. The more exposed ones skin is to the sun the darker it gets, along with the less exposed
to the sun the lighter the skin. Ethnicity and race are uniquely tied together; they are however two
separate concepts. Race has more to do with where a person originates while ethnicity has to do
with one s culture. Culture can be seen as a group of people s traditions, customs or beliefs.
Generally, with in separate cultures, the races of the people in the group are the same, not always
though. Consequently, most
I Clearly Remember My Last Moment As An Undergraduate...
I clearly remember my last moment as an undergraduate student. I had just finished my last exam
for the semester, and as I checked back over my test I reflected on my college experience. In just 7
semesters I had attended 4 different colleges, lived in 4 different cities, had 9 different jobs, took a
semester off for a competitive internship, and still managed to graduate a semester early. But of
course, it s kind of a long story.
Throughout high school my family always supported me and encouraged me to do my best, but
never pushed me to strive for a college education. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I was
uncertain and scared of the process. As a junior I applied to Chicago Scholars whose mission it was
to help minorities and ... Show more content on [Link] ...
Before the rug had been pulled on my U of I plans, I had applied to the competitive Disney
College Program in Florida. I learned of my acceptance at the perfect time, and committed to spend
the next semester in Florida. This was a great opportunity for me to network with some of the most
ambitious college students from around the world while I learned a lot.
While my internship with Disney provided me with the opportunity to transition to whatever was
next, it unfortunately did nothing to help my financial situation, and I found myself back at
home. Living with my dad in Chicago I worked 60 70 hours a week and completed 22 credit
hours at my local community college. During this time I pushed myself to not let circumstances
hold me back and decided to be relentless in chasing my goals. Despite taking a semester off for
Disney, I received my Associates degree on time. At a college fair, I learned about Loras College and
prepared to continue my BA at Loras in Dubuque, IA.
I started at Loras in Fall of 2014 and eagerly threw myself into the academia and school
involvement that I had been desperate for since U of I. After arriving in Iowa, I became involved
with Dr. Julia Omarzu s research team, worked part time at a Jimmy Johns and the school Library,
volunteered in Dubuque elementary schools, worked as a math tutor in a high school, did trail
maintenance for a nature preserve, and crocheted and donated baby
An Experiment On Synthesized Luminol
Abstract: In this experiment we synthesized luminol with the objective to demonstrate the process of
using a stating material, converting it into a product and using it for a reaction. 5 nitro 2, 3
dihydrophthalazine 1, 4 dione was used as our starting material which then underwent through the
process of refluxing and vacuuming to retrieve the luminol. In order to achieve chemilumenescence,
two stock solute ions were made with sodium hydroxide, potassium ferricyanide and hydrogen
peroxide and mixed respectively in a dark room in order to observe an emitted blue light.
Introduction: The chemiluminescence of luminol was recently first discovered by a German chemist
by the name of H.O. Albrecth. He found that blood enhanced the... Show more content on

In this experiment, various processes such as refluxing help synthesize luminol. Refluxing is the
process boiling a solution and condensing the vapor by cooling it simultaneously through the
attached jacketed condenser that contains a water in/water out outlets. . Experimental: To initiate
the experiment, 5 nitro 2, 3 dihydrophthalazine 1,4 dione (0.15g, 0.96mmol) was weighed out and
added to a (5.00 mL) conical vial. Into the same vial, NaOH (2.00 mL, 3.00M in H2O) was added
until a brown red solution was formed. Sodium hydrosulfite (0.25g, 1.45mol) was added after. A
reflux apparatus (with water in/water out lines attached and water flowing through the system) was
assembled attaching the conical vial. The conical vial rested on an aluminum block and hot plate
ready to be refluxed for 5 minutes. The temperature read 250°C after it had completely refluxed.
Once the solution was refluxed for 5 minutes, it was then cooled for 5 minutes to room temperature
with the addition of acetic acid and [acetic acid to quench (add H2)]. After the addition of acetic
acid, the solution turned yellow and formed a precipitate. The solution was placed on ice for 10
minutes. Once the solution had been cooled, the solution went through a vacuum filtration until the
precipitate was completely dried. The precipitate recovered is the luminol, which was used as the
The Life Of The Party
The Life of the Party
In the wake of disappointing presidential candidates and Congress shutdowns, many Americans are
left unsatisfied with their government. It has become obvious that the Republicans and Democrats
will not and cannot work cooperatively. America s two party system has become detrimental and
must be opened to third party involvement. This would restore political competitiveness, forcing
candidates to prove themselves even further. Furthermore, this reveal many more opinions and
opportunities to the eye of the American public, allowing for entirely educated decisions from a
range of choices. This is a change in the government of the United States of America that is not only
certainly feasible, but also necessary.

This statistic is, in fact, not a causation of increased negative opinions throughout all Americans: it is
actually focused in negativity within the Republican Party. Not surprisingly, thirty six percent of
independent voters felt dislike towards both parties. However, twenty two percent of surveyed
Republicans also felt this way, up from only nine percent in January (Smith). This recent
dissatisfaction has also been reciprocated in independent voters. An astounding forty seven percent
of Republican leaning independent voters are displeased with both the Republican and Democratic
parties, the highest since 1992. Six months prior to this study, this figure was only at thirty two
percent. This marks a recent change in opinion. Previously, there had always been more Democratic
leaners unhappy with the Democratic Party than Republican leaners unhappy with the Republican
Party. However, with now only twenty two percent of Democratic leaners unhappy with the
Democrats, this statistic has switched. This extreme rise in unhappiness at our major political
parties have left many wondering if our two party system is still working as it should be (Smith).
For many decades, the United States of America has been led by two political parties: the
Democratic Party and the Republican Party. However, there have been and are currently many other
parties that have attempted for political importance. These political parties, which are known
Essay on The Importance of Wearing a Seatbelt
The Importance of Wearing a Seatbelt
We have all heard the excuses before, It s uncomfortable, I m only going around the corner , I d
rather be thrown out of a car than be stuck in a seatbelt, and my favorite, I m a good driver I don t
need to wear one. Well you may be a good driver but there are situations beyond your control such
as bad weather, road conditions and not to mention other drivers that can affect your safety. Seat
belts can mean the difference between life and death in an auto accident. Wearing a seat belt every
time you enter a vehicle is not only the smart thing to do it is the right thing because it saves lives,
it s the law and it will save you money.
Car accidents are the leading cause of death for people ... Show more content on [Link] ...
For the people who use the excuse that They are just going around the corner should realize that
80% of traffic fatalities occur within a 25 mile radius of your home and at a speed of 40 miles an
hour. Buckling up to drive around the block is probably the best time to do so. Everyone knows
that car crashes can cause death; yet because people do not buckle up all the time thousands of
people still die in traffic crashes yearly. Seatbelts can save your life in a crash and can reduce your
risk of a serious injury. Seat belts keep drivers and passengers from being ejected through
windows or doors. This is important because your chances of being killed are five times greater if
you are thrown from the vehicle. Thousands of people who die in car crashes each year might still
be alive today if they had only been wearing their seat belts.
Wearing a seat belt isn t just a good idea; it s the law and many states conduct heightened
enforcement of their seat belt laws. Forty nine states, all except New Hampshire have mandatory
safety belt laws. In most states, these laws cover front seat occupants only, although belt laws in
16 jurisdictions including New York cover all rear seat occupants also. New York is one of 19
jurisdictions where belt use laws are standard, or primary, meaning police may stop vehicles solely
for belt law violations. In 17 states including New York the safety belt defense is allowed, meaning
damages collected by someone in a crash may be reduced
Effects Of Long Term Incarceration On Prisoners
General area of investigation The topic I am exploring is the effects of long term incarceration on
prisoner s mental and psychological state. Many individuals believe that long term incarceration and
the conditions of prisons have negatively affected inmates psychologically and mentally. It has been
discovered that post traumatic stress disorders and anxiety is shared between those who have been
in prisonfor a long period or those who are adapted to prison life. (Garcia) Incarceration was created
to help the prisoners reimburse themselves and learn from their mistake, instead incarceration has the
power to corrupt prisoners mentally and can follow the individuals after being released preventing
them to live a normal steady life.
The effects of long term incarceration on prisoners can be viewed as ironic, which is what attracted
me to this topic. Irony is defined as a state of events that appear different to what one expects,
which illustrates the effects of long term incarceration. From doing this project, I hope to be more
knowledgeable regarding the issues surrounding the effects of long term incarceration concerning
prisoners who have been released. This topic fits in with the course theme, as it views the roles
incarcerations plays in our society and its objective.
Primary Research Question
Does long term incarceration affect a prisoners psychological and mental state after being released
out of prison or reimburse yourself?
Long term incarceration was
Treadway Compliance Paper
In 1985, the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) was
founded as a voluntary private sector organization whose mission summarized is to reduce the extent
of fraud in a company and to ensure that there is no corruption or unethical behaviors that are
unlawful in the performance of the business. The framework wasn t published until 1992 and it is
known as the COSO Internal Control Integrated Framework. Although optional, almost every public
company use this framework throughout the U.S. and it also used and respected globally. Many
companies refer to this framework to assess their internal control mainly in their financial reporting
to ensure they are in compliance with the law. COSO not only works with the Securities Exchange

Effects Of Wars Leave On Business
Executive Summary This research paper will provide an analysis and evaluation of the effects that
wars leave on business. Examples of these include embassies that prohibit their citizens to visit those
countries in war. If these countries at war base their economy in tourism this will result them to not
be economically stable since there is a ban in visiting their countries. Since there is no tourism and
no business to survive on, the citizens of these countries may resort to drug business to feed
themselves. Wars can impact economic effects and make investors seek investments in other
countries. This substantially can result in these countries to not have no supply and demand in the
economic growth. This substantially affects the nations economy. However, some of the effects of
war may not be bad sometimes they create revenue for the country s income. This research paper
will analyze these effects. An excessive military spending can displace the economy instead of
focusing in other areas to as investmentsin high tech industries, education or infrastructure. There are
a lot of economic factors that war affects such as national debt, investment, jobs, taxes, inflation and
government deficits Background of War War has had a significant impact on business ever since
wars began. During WWII occurred there were facilities established all throughout the US because
there was a huge demand of labor to make war accessories. The demand for military equipment,

by Freud, who took somewhat of a backseat. Freud wanted to explore what ... Show more content on

This contributed to Freud s idea of object choice and homosexuality in children suggesting that most
children have homosexual tendencies as they are only acquainted with one kind of genital organ.
Freud intimates that because little Hans had a widdler, and gave so much importance to it, he chose
to have this familiar feature as his sexual object. It is also important to note that in his future
development he demonstrated an energetic masculinity with traits of polygamy; he knew how to
vary his behaviour, too, with his varying feminine objects audaciously aggressive in one case,
languishing and bashful in another. His affection had moved from his mother on to other objects of
love, but at a time when there was a scarcity of these it returned to her.
Hans demonstrates elements of the sexual relations of a child to his parents discussed in
Interpretation of Dreams [1900a, in Section D (β) of Chapter V; Standard Ed., 4, 248 ff.] and in
Three Essays [1905d, Standard Ed., 7, 222 ff.] with regard to being a little Oedipus who who

commitments). Hans identified that his fathers absenteeism gave

The Negative Effects Of Violence In The Media
Violence has been incorporated into the media over the past decades. Television, movies, and
video games all depict violence in many different ways. The scary truth is that shootings, especially
in schools, are occurring more often than they should. Individuals are wondering what influenced
young men like Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris to go into a school and shoot innocent people; these
two young men were the Columbine High School shooters. People are also wanting to know why
young men like these two are going into schools and other public places with the mindset of killing
as many people as possible. Although, there are many factors that influenced these people, media
violenceis a key component of them. Violence in the media negatively affects an individual s
behavior.
According to psychology, violence is an extreme form of aggression. There are many sources from
which this behavior could come from. A few of these sources include television, movies, and video
games. These different aspects of the media are part of our daily lives and can be accountable for
educating society with positive and unfortunately negative messages. The American Academy of
Pediatrics (2000) states, an average child will watch around 28 hours of television a week, play an
hour of video game or surface, and multiple hours watching movies and videos. This is almost the
equivalent of how long a child spends in school each week. Allowing children to spend this much
time viewing and playing these
