Who Is Lucy Hominid
Lucy is the nickname given to the world s most famous human ancestor. (National Geographic
News) Lucy was found on November 24, 1974 in Hardar, Ethiopia by paleontologists Tom Gray and
Donald Johanson. While Lucy may not be the earliest human ancestor she is the first
Australopithecus afarensis skeleton found, with her remains being 3.2 million years old.
Lucy s nickname was inspired by the Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. While it is
unsure who exactly gave this 3.2 million year old skeleton the nickname Lucy, it stuck and the
skeleton has been referred to as Lucy ever since. Lucy has been identified as a hominid because she
walked upright, which is one of the foremost characteristics of the zoological family Hominidae.

Article Number 1 Title: There May Be a Little Poop in Your Starbucks Iced Coffee
Author: Clint Rainy
Date of Article: March 1, 2017

Summary of Topic:
What are faecal coliforms? These are microscopic bacteria which originate from human waste. In
other words, the intestines of warm blooded animals. Such bacteria often pollute water sources
however in the case of the following article, faecal coliforms were found in the ice of the Starbucks
food franchise. The issue with faecal coliforms is that their presence in water indicates the presence
of other more dangerous bacteria, it is this more dangerous bacteria that causes water borne diseases
such as cholera or typhoid which is deadly. (Washington State ... Show more content on

Article Analysis:
The scandal affecting Starbucks in this particular article directly links to the business topic of
marketing and more specifically, the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) no.68 of 2008. Traces of
faecal bacteria do not belong in beverages. What this scandal says about the Starbucks franchise is
that it is negligent, unsanitary and ultimately does not care for the well being of its consumers.
According to the CPA, which is a legal document that protects the rights of consumers, Consumers
have the right to fair value, good quality and safety of goods and services . Unfortunately, the
scandal in the article is an infringement of those rights because the iced coffee at Starbucks was of
poor quality and had the potential to make customers very sick.

The following is not mentioned in the article; however, I think that after such an infringement, that
particular Starbucks franchise will most probably be under close surveillance and have spontaneous
checks from the food industry regulators from the UK. This will negativity affect staff as they will
always be feeling on edge.

In addition to that, Starbucks will have to also make an effort and spend money in terms of
minimizing the effects of the negative publicity it gained. Not only was the brand exposed, but it
was exposed of national television in the UK. Such exposure will reduce consumer confidence
because the buyers behaviour has been negatively influenced

Thesis statement: It is known to most that Western countries are on the rule of parliamentary
democracy. We also know that Western countries inherited their political system from the ancient
Greeks and Romans, especially the Roman political system. It has shaped western parliamentary

The social connection provided the required political foundation for the Senate. The Ancient
Roman civilization started the Roman Kingdom, not the Roman Republic. This Kingdom was
totally different from the later Monarchy in the history of the Middle Ages, because the system
did not have an inherited King. The increasing powerful aristocracy, wealthy landowners and
trade merchants who dominated Rome s social and political scene had organized themselves into
a council of elders known as the Roman Senate. The senate had privilege to select who the next
King would be (Pearson 19). The King and the Senate had a cooperating relationship until 509
BC. In that year, the last King, Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, also known as Tarquin the Proud, was
a tyrant who was overthrown by the city state s nobles. He succeeded to the throne because he
assassinated the former King. So he was the King without the Senate s approval. During the same
year, the city of Rome became a republic. At the beginning of the Republic, the might of the Senate
was very weak and powerless, because of the might of the two magistrates. A magistrate was a kind
of officer who served as the leader of Ancient Rome and Greeks, and who was elected by citizens
who lived in the cities. Not only did the two magistrates share the leading position in the city state,
but they also had powerful might over the Senators. Since the transition from monarchy to

The Symbolism Of The Conch

The Symbolism of the Conch
For centuries philosophers, have debated the question of whether man is naturally evil. William
Golding poses this question in his novel Lord of the Flies. Set on a tropical island during World
War II, the novel begins when schoolboys from Great Britain are being flown to safety and their
plane is shot down. No adults survive, and the boys are left to control themselves and get rescued.
The boys find a conch, which is a symbol of power and authority to whoever has it in his possession.
William Golding uses symbolism in the form of the conch to represent the concept of society.
Throughout the course of the novel, the boys developing relationship with the conch ... Show more

When the boys first start a fire on top of the mountain, Piggy holds the conch and attempts to
speak. But Jack scolds him by saying, The conch doesn t count on top of the mountain, so you
shut up (Golding 39). Boys like Jack begin to place restrictions on the conch and lose respect for
it and for one another. Then one day at an assembly, Jack places even less importance on the
conch excluding more of the boys and weakening the equal order and authority that the conch
provides. Jack says, We don t need the conch anymore. We know who ought to say things...It s
time some people knew they ve got to keep quiet and leave deciding things to the rest of us
(Golding 92). Jack s statement here clearly connects the end of the conch to a change in the social
order. Jack is slowly becoming a power hungry dictator, and the orderly influence of the conch is
replaced by man s evil desires. In the end, the conch loses significance to all but Piggy, and most
of the boys turn into evil savages. Piggy tells Ralph to call an assembly, and Ralph only laughs.
Finally, after Piggy glasses are stolen, Piggy tells Ralph, Blow the conch, blow as loud as you can.
The forest echoed; and birds lifted, crying out of the treetops, as on that first morning ages ago
(Golding 154). Piggy believes that the authority of the conch will once again bring the boys
together, but only four boys meet in this assembly. The rest have joined Jack s savage tribe.

based on their needs, requirements, and socioeconomic status. Cox Communications also needs
the ability to develop cross promotional and marketing programs through which premium products

My Best Friend
Tori Tori is an intelligent, creative, English name from the Middle English. The name Tori s
origin is from basically all over, but mainly English and New Zealand. My mother chose my name
because she very much admired how it was creative and close to her name, Lori. When I was
younger, I didn t like my name very much because I didn t know how to correctly pronounce it.
But as I ve gotten older I have grown to love my name. The meaning of the name Tori is Derived
from Victoria which means victory in Latin. The etymology of my last name, Holbert, is a
descendant of Hulbert (gracious, bright). According to a person named Reaney . . . Holbert is
probably a survival of an unrecorded Old English name holdbeorht which means friendly ,
gracious , loyal , bright , and famous . I walked into the loud classroom everyone was talking to
each other, but there were quite a lot of new people that I didn t recognize from Morgan. In
Morgan I wasn t shy, I talked to basically everyone, but once I came to the middle schooleverything
changed. My friends made new friends and stopped talking to me. For the first week, I was very
lonely. Eventually, I made some new friends, who are now some of my best friends, and they are
Malia, Zoey, and Olivia. I wasn t best friends with them at the time, but they were just people I
would hang out with. Everything school wise came pretty easy to me, I had good grades, but I was
still a little shy. My social skills was a huge setback,
Biography of Andrew Carnegie Essay
Biography of Andrew Carnegie

Andrew Carnegie was born into a poor working class family living in the town of Dunfermline,
Scotland, in 1835. His father operated a small hand looming business located in the family home.
The Carnegies was literate, well read, and active in the politics of the day. It was a time of
repression of the Scottish worker by the Government, the employers, and the culture. Rebellious in
thought as well as actively participating in protests was part of the Carnegie family life style. He was
exposed to all of Scotland s dramatic portrayal of Scottish Heroes. He learned the poetry and songs
that were filled with the heroics of the underdog and their fight for equality.

He had been offered free tickets which enabled him to become acquainted with Shakespeare s
plays. While other young men lives were filled with work, pleasure, and home, Andrew s life was
filled with work, school, drama, and reading. He took advantage of the chance to study in a
private library and then he encouraged other young men to join him. He said, I knew nothing of
the base and vile. I had always been brought in contact with good people. This was the world in
which I dwelt with my companions, all of them refined young men, striving to improve themselves
and become respected citizens (Carnegie 65). I went to school at night and read history and classics
on weekends. Every step of the way factory drudge, office boy, messenger, I pushed myself hard,
mastered my duties, maximized opportunities, and waited with self assurance the arrival of the next
chance .
There are many theories on why this Scottish immigrant succeeded in the land of opportunity . It
couldn t be based solely on the fact he spoke English and was literate. He was one of among
thousands of other Scottish immigrants who came to this country searching for economic
opportunity. Louis Hacker expounds on one theory on what drove him,
Because of his father s failure, because of his deep devotion to a mother . . . perhaps more because
of the unequal society from which he had come and which had squandered talent so stupidly,

Othello Essay
The Tragedy of Othello
The renowned play of Othello was written by William Shakespeare in the 17th century. The drama
follows the life of Othello, a well respected and admired Venetian general, and the lie he gets tangled
up in. Othello is deceived by his trustworthy friend, Iago, who confidently convinces Othello that
his honest wife, Desdemona, committed infidelity upon him with his honorable lieutenant, Cassio.
At the start, Othello doesn t quite believe Iago because he knew his wife would never do such a
thing. Although, as the play progresses so does Othello s trust in Iago. The audience is able to
witness Othello s mental deterioration and Iago s personal motive for the deception. Towards the
end of the tragic play Othello confronts his wife and mistakenly smothers her. Everything starts to
fall into place, but not exactly the way Iago had in mind. Othello would be considered a tragic hero
due to the fact that he had his entire life ahead of him, but it unfortunately falls apart because of his
easy to manipulate personality, insecurities, and emotional vulnerabilities. In spite of the fact that
Othello is brave and courageous, he still seems to show qualities of a malleable person. Othello is
extremely easy to persuade and manipulate. Even though he tries to fight against the manipulation it
still seems to gravitate towards him. When Iago told Othello the truth about Cassio and Desdemona,
Alienation In The Film Josie And The Pussycats
Alienation and the Pussycats Regardless of personal feelings and conceptions of the 2001 instant
classic Josie and the Pussycats, the film contains many philosophical elements that support the
association between alienation and social roots. The philosophical theme of alienation as a result of
social roots contains many crucial components that are displayed in the film, but will also be
discussed thoroughly throughout this paper. Some of these critical rudiments include the world of
competition, commodification of self, inability to form deep friendships, and commercialism. The
presence of any or all of these features triggers alienation by social roots. Before exploring the
philosophical elements within the film, a simple summary of the... Show more content on

This encounter is seen as a sign to Wyatt that these are the girls he has been looking for. Without
even hearing the band, The Pussycats, play he offers them a contract with Mega Records. The girls
dream of becoming famous is now within reach so without any hesitation, the contract is signed and
sealed. The band is then transported with Wyatt to New York where they receive makeovers, a new
band name, and a billboard in Times Square all within hours. This instant transformation is an
example of another component linking alienation with social roots called commodification of self.
Pappenheim referred to the economic system in the United States as a system of commodity
production. In an attempt to explain this concept, Pappenheim emphasizes the difference between
an exchange value and the use value. The exchange value is more important to society than the use
value, or the intrinsic value. The production and sales of commodities are based on the interest in
their exchange value instead of the relationship to their intrinsic, true value (Pappenheim 48).
Commodification of self is a way to become an object for show or sell based solely on appearance
or market. The Pussycats turn into Josie and the Pussycats who lose control of their image, name,
and music. The band is altered physically and mentally with a change occurring in the mindset of the
girls. These changes focus on improving the bands exchange value to benefit the public, while
sliding their intrinsic value under the
