Description

Our Wireless Link feature provides for transmission of digital services

over-the-air (voice, data, & signaling), extending IP Multi-site Connect
system coverage in scenarios where normal network connectivity
options are limited or unavailable. The process is timeslot defined.

Each wireless link requires 2 repeaters and 2 mobiles (a pair of each).

Operation

• The user experience is unchanged – 100% normal operation.

• The repeater and mobile indications are also normal with one exception:
MD782i mobiles with UART Transfer enabled will always show “Back2Back”
on the display (only disappearing when UART Transfer is disabled via CPS).

Respond & Achieve 40

Tips, Tricks, & Caveats

• Only digital services can be transferred through Wireless Link, not analog.
• To ensure reliable communications, it is recommended that a repeater/mobile
equipment pair configured for Wireless Link only be connected to another pair
configured for the same purpose.
• Wireless Link cannot be used with the SIP Phone or Back-to-Back features.
• Since transferring services with acknowledgement through the Wireless Link may
cause time delays, it is recommended to extend the ‘Wait Ack Delay’ setting in the
user radios to at least 1200ms (under Conventional > Digital Common > Basic).
• When ‘UART Transfer’ is enabled in an MD78X mobile, it essentially becomes a
dedicated device. Except for the Power button and main Control/Selector knob, all
other keys will become invalid (and “Back2Back” will be displayed).
• You may see notations that MD78X mobiles require a hardware modification to
support Wireless Link, but that is no longer the case (now programmable via CPS).

HYTERA UNIVERSITY
REPEATER & MOBILE WIRELESS LINK - Q&A
November 1, 2019

Is it possible to have two (2) links from the same repeater using two (2) mobiles?
No, this configuration is not supported - assuming this question relates to the possibility of configuring 2 back-to-back
wireless links in a “Y” configuration, utilizing 3 equipment pairs plus a forth mobile with a common repeater in the
middle. This is due both to the UART port limitation since each repeater has only one, and also to a timeslot
limitation, meaning only one timeslot can be forwarded to the UART port.

Does wireless link work in mixed mode, even if only digital gets sent across the
link?
Wireless link is a digital-only feature and invalidates mixed mode as a viable operating model when enabled so there
is no way to configure the Hytera Wireless Link feature in a mixed mode environment.

Would I have to purchase new MD782i mobiles to set up a wireless link or can I
update the firmware in a pair of older mobiles that I already have and just use
those?
Our apologies for any ambiguity. While all new MD782i mobiles do currently ship with a built-in UART chip, some
older units may still require a factory-level hardware modification to support this feature. The combination of a radio's
model number and serial number can be used to determine if it is already so equipped. As long as an MD782i's full
model number includes an "i" at the end of its third character string (e.g. MD782-00000000-00000i-U1-B-A), AND has
a serial number beginning with 19xxxxxxxx or higher, then the unit is already factory-equipped with a built-in UART
chip and requires no modification. By contrast, model numbers with an "a" in that position contain legacy hardware
and would require the modification (e.g. MD782-00000000-00000a-U1-H-D). However please feel free to contact
Hytera Support for further assistance.
