Section 1.2.0 Components of Construction Drawings
1. Title Block – gives information about the structure or assembly
Contains the following:
Company Logo
Sheet Title
Date
Drawn by
Drawing number
Scale
Revision blocks
2. Border – clear area of approximately half an inch around the edge of the drawing area
3. Drawing area – presents the information for constructing the project
4. Revision block - used to record any changes to the drawing
5. Legend – identification of lines and symbols
Section 1.3.0 Drawing Elements
Common types of Lines
1. Dimension lines – establish the sizes of parts of a structure
2. Leaders – identify the location of a specific part of the drawing
3. Property lines – indicate land boundaries
4. Cut lines – part of a drawing that is to be shown in a separate cross-sectional view
5. Section cuts – show areas not included in the cutting line view
6. Break lines – show where an object has been broken off to save space on the
drawing
7. Hidden lines – identify part of a structure that is not visible on the drawing
8. Center lines – show the measured center of an object
9. Object lines – identify the object of interest or the closest object
10. Grid lines – make it easy to refer to specific locations on a plan
Section 1.4.0 Drawing Scales
Scale – tells the size of the object drawn compared with the actual size
1. Architect’s scale – often used to create a construction drawings. Translates the large
measurements of structure into smaller measurement
2. Metric scale – scales are calibrated in units of 10
3. Engineer’s scale – used mainly for land measurement on site plans. Set up as
multiples of 10.
