HUM 102: Intro to the Humanities II

Introduction
Throughout time the humanities have evolved and proof of this evolution is seen in each of the
different concepts that humanities cover. There are several time capsules that are rumored to
contain pieces of some of the most influential art, music, architecture, philosophy, and literature in
the Renaissance and Baroque periods. To find these capsules would be to travel back in time and
hold in one s hands the true measure of what the humanities has accomplished during its evolution.

Time Capsule contains the document with the blessing from the cornerstone of this great church.
The Baroque style of architecture focused less on mathematical order and more on boldness.
Colonnades, domes, color effects, volume, and void are all concepts of the Baroque style of
architecture. The Piazza of St. Peter s Basilica in Rome is a great example of Baroque architecture in
its preference for the grandiose. It captures all of the concepts that dominated the Baroque style of
architecture and brings them together to create something that is visually stunning. The time capsule
contains a painting depicting the aerial view of the colonnade and piazza of St. Peter s. The piazza
was so large and spectacular that it could accommodate more than 250,000 people.

Philosophy Philosophy during the Renaissance was also about the rebirth of mankind. Renaissance
philosophy covered the rebirth of classical civilization and learning. Humanism, the effort to recover
and revive Greco Roman culture, was introduced and the way people thought about and understood
their purpose in life was changed forever. Humanism led people back to the old programs of study
that embraced grammar, rhetoric, history, poetry, and moral philosophy. The Philosophy Time

The NBA, the second most watched sport in America, is known for making NBA fans happy if
their favorite team wins, or make them lose their minds when their favorite team loses. The NBA
has had many moments that will go down in sports history, but what if everything was not what it
seems like and player, coaches, owners, officials, and many more, have been lying to their
passionate fans. Many NBA fans spend their time and money for the NBA, to merchandise, tickets,
and spending two hours and thirty minutes of their lives to spend time watching two teams play
competitive basketball. If the NBA was rigged, not only will it change the whole perspective of
NBA, but it wouldn t get many people interested in spending their time on it. Many people... Show

The Rise of Hitler and Nazism in Germany
There are many reasons people say as to why the nazi party was created and what some of the
causes were. Throughout the duration of my paper I am going to explain and discuss some of the
major topics that could have led to the rise of Nazism in Germany, such as the treaty of Versailles
and some of the restrictions that were put on Germany, the loss of the war, and the Weimar Republic.
These are just some of the reasons that are going to be looked at and discussed.

Germany s beating in World War One made political, economic and social fall in the Weimar
Republic and led to the rise of the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP) or Nazi party.

The First World War put stress on the German people. The space between the rich and ... Show more

They promised too much concessions and aids to a group of voting Germans, who would be
more than ready to accept the Nazi s promises. Hitler also made many other promises to the
German people. One promise came after another. After the treaty Was signed forcing Germany to
pay thirty seven annual payments from 1700 million gold marks to 2400 million gold marks, and
then twenty one annual payments at 1700 million gold marks. This meant that Germany would
be making payments at an average of just over 2000 gold marks until 1988. When this was
brought to Hitler s attention, he said he would not make payments and cursed the Weimar
Government s decision to agree with the plan. Because of this, Hitler found a colleague in Alfred
Hugenburg, head of the largest conservative party the German National People s Party.
Hugenburg ran a massive empire, and used this to campaign against the treaty and The
Enslavement of the German People as they liked to call it. Even though his attempt to stop the
signing of the document was unsuccessful, Hitler was given a huge amount of publicity, and was
given a reputation as a politician who opposed the restrictions set on Germany after the
embarrassing loss in World War One. As bitterness over the loss of the war was still close to
Germany, Hitler s view on the reparations issue got a lot of attention, and defiantly added to his
popularity as a politician. This is yet another reason why the Nazi Party got so much support

Cepheid Synthesis Essay
In the early 1900s, Henrietta Leavitt was studying Cepheids in the Large Magellanic Cloud (the
small satellite galaxy of the Milky Way) and found a relationship between their period and
luminosity. This meant that, simply by measuring the period of a more distant Cepheid, astronomers
could immediately determine its luminosity and hence, its distance.

How We Use Cepheids

Astronomers use Cepheid stars to measure distance. First, the period of a distant Cepheid is
measured. The period is the length of time between brightness peaks. Next, they measure the peak
luminosity of the star itself; this gives them the apparent brightness. Then, assuming that all
Cepheids of the same period have the same absolute brightness, the distance is computed

1). Define Organisation and Management from different Authors or Management Gurus 5 pages
The definition of management is not static due to usage and practices by those in managerial
positions. Thus the meaning can change
This means that it is good if we can keep abreast of new development in this area.
It is enough if you have an adequate understanding of the definition of management. The better
approach is to know the how to and whether the way you manage things effectively accomplish the
targets of the tasks at hand. And thus helping, at the end of the day, to achieve the overall objectives
of your organization.

F.W. Taylor: Management as a group of personnel

According to F.W. Taylor, Management is the art of knowing what you want to do and then seeing
that they do it in the best and the cheapest may.
According to this approach human factor plays an important role in accomplishing business
objectives. management is concerned with those who have been managing the affairs of the
business. Managers are assigned duties and are also granted requisite authority to perform their
duties efficiently and thus, management is effective direction, coordination and control of individual

The Effect Of The Built Environment On The Therapeutic...
In 1999, a research team was formed to examine the effect of the built environment on the therapeutic
process. An important outcome was the formulation of a new set of guidelines which could be a
value to other designing health care settings throughout the NHS. The research project was entitled
The architectural healthcare environmentand its effect on patient health outcomes . It was funded by
a three year grant from uk government.
Two NHS trusts that were planning to move existing cohorts of patients from old accommodation
into new were identified. One, at Poole, Dorset, involved acute sector inpatients (orthopaedic) and
the other, at Brighton, Sussex, involved non acute sector inpatients (mental health). In both cases,
whilst the health care setting changed, the clinical and managerial regime and staff remained the
same, as did the treatment and medication. Whilst a considerable number of patients moved from
old accommodation to new at both Poole and Brighton, the remainder of those being studied had
either only been in the old accommodation or were fresh admission to the new. In a small number of
cases in Brighton, there were some re admissions after a period of times spent in the community;
these patients therefore experienced both old and new settings but with an interval of time in
between. Patients views on a number of aspects of the built environment were elicited before and
after the moves. particularly interested in patient views on the quality of the built
