Fire Potential Outlook
Forecast Fire Danger
Great Lakes Compact Fire Danger: Fire danger is moderate to high with seven units reporting very high. Fire Weather: High pressure will persist over the compact into Friday night creating dry conditions and low RH levels. A cool front is then forecast to advance through the compact Friday evening into Sunday creating a few showers or storms. Gusty south winds will affect the compact on Friday afternoon into Saturday ahead of the cool front with brisk west to northwest winds behind it Saturday evening into Sunday. The next chance of precipitation is forecast to advance through from west to east Friday night into Saturday night. However, most areas are not expected to receive precipitation any long duration precipitation. The next chance of precipitation is not forecast until the end of next week creating elevated fire potential through the middle of next week. Big Rivers Compact Fire Danger: Fire danger is mainly low to moderate. Fire Weather: Mainly dry conditions are forecast across the majority of the compact into the middle of next week. A few showers and storms are possible across the west Friday night into Saturday as a cool front sweeps through the compact from the west. Gusty south winds will affect the western Big Rivers Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. Cooler temperatures forecast to move in from the northwest later Saturday afternoon into Sunday into early next week on strong northwest winds. The next chance of wetting rainfall is forecast across the compact later next week. Elevated fire potential is forecast into the middle of next week due to the dry conditions. Northeast Compact Fire Danger: Fire danger is mainly moderate to high with seven units reporting very high and two extreme. Fire Weather: Gusty afternoon north to northwest winds will persist across the portions of the compact into Saturday. The lowest RH levels will be located over the southwestern half of the compact into Saturday. Mainly dry and cool conditions will persist across the majority of the compact into the weekend. This will allow fuels to continue drying out creating areas of elevated fire potential through the weekend. Showers are forecast across Maine Sunday into Monday morning. The next chance of precipitation across the rest of the Northeast is not expected until Monday into Tuesday as a trough of low pressure rotates westward from the Atlantic into southeastern Canada. Mid-Atlantic Compact Fire Danger: Fire danger is mainly low to moderate with three units reporting high. Fire Weather: Mainly dry conditions are expected through the weekend allowing fuels to dry out quite a bit. Low RH levels will affect the compact into Saturday elevating fire potential. The next chance of precipitation across the compact is expected to hold off until early next week. Gusty northwest to west winds are forecast across the compact Sunday afternoon into early next week as a low sets up over southeastern Canada pulling cooler air down into the eastern states. Scattered showers will affect the compact early next week as a couple of cold fronts sweep through the eastern states. Mainly dry conditions are forecast through the middle of next week elevating fire potential. The next chance of any precipitation will hold off until the end of next week.
