Team Seas

Team Seas is a collaborative fundraiser initiated by YouTubers MrBeast and Mark Rober, raising over 33 million dollars to remove 30 million pounds of marine debris from the ocean. As of May 2023, the campaign reported that 112,000 volunteers had cleaned 15.1 million pounds of waste across 63 countries. - Team Seas (stylized as #TEAMSEAS) is an international collaborative fundraiser that was started

by YouTubers MrBeast and Mark Rober as a follow-up to Team Trees. The fundraiser succeeded
in raising over 33 million U.S. dollars. All of the donations from the fundraiser go to the Ocean
Conservancy and The Ocean Cleanup, with the organisations splitting the donations. The
fundraiser pledges to remove 30,000,000 pounds (14,000,000 kg) of marine debris from the
ocean by removing 1 pound (0.45 kg) of marine debris from the ocean for every 1 dollar
donated.
- Team Seas aimed to remove 30,000,000 pounds (14,000,000 kg) of marine debris from the
ocean by the end of 2021 by raising 30 million dollars, with one pound removed for every dollar
donated. The project was mass released over the internet on many different social media
platforms on Friday October 29, 2021, at 1 PM (PT). On YouTube, thousands of creators from 145
countries, with a combined follow count of 1 billion, created videos about the fundraiser.
- On 10 May 2023, Donaldson, Rober, and the Team Seas twitter account jointly reported that the
campaign was halfway done, and that 112,000 volunteers had cleaned 15.1 million pounds of
waste in 63 countries
- “Capturing plastic in rivers is the fastest and most efficient way to rid the oceans of plastic. To do
this, The Ocean Cleanup deploys a growing network of Interceptors in rivers around the world,
which together have removed over 7 million kg (16.2 million lbs) of trash so far. The Ocean
Cleanup currently has 14 Interceptors in 7 countries, with more expected for 2023 and 2024.
Funds allocated from the TeamSeas campaign are aimed at expanding and improving our
Interceptors, allowing us to make even more impact in highly polluting rivers. For each dollar
allocated from the TeamSeas campaign, The Ocean Cleanup can remove one pound of trash
from rivers. The #TeamSeas model is simple: The Ocean Cleanup intercepts plastic in rivers. Once
this plastic catch has been verified, we then allocate the donations TeamSeas has received to
where they can have most impact on plastic pollution. Your TeamSeas donations are currently
funding Interceptor projects in Malaysia and Jamaica. As of June 2023 (mid-way through our
partnership) The Ocean Cleanup has removed a verified total of 7 million pounds of trash from
rivers around the world. ”(source - The Ocean Cleanup)
