What is Model United Nations (MUNs)?

Model United Nation is an academic activity which simulates how different UN organizations work. It
covers Diplomacy, International relations, and Argumentation as carried out in the United Nations while
debating upon global issues. The participants, known as delegates, are assigned different countries. The
delegates must be well versed with the agenda of the committee and the stance of their own country. They
must be fully familiarized with the topics which have to be discussed in the committee so that they can
faithfully defend the position of their country.

MUN symposiums which are held in schools as educational meet-ups are a great exposure and experience
for students. It brings them numerous benefits; it enhances their diplomacy and negotiation skills as they get
to meet and interact with different people, representing different nationalities. This interaction is a chance to
overcome a fear of public speaking because it supports personal growth in every delegate and triggers
their self-confidence. It provides an opportunity to be well acquainted with global issues because it
obligates every participant to understand the international problems and their opinions may contribute to
solve the problems which affect our planet today. Model UN conferences are opportunities to practice
research, public speaking, teamwork, negotiation, and writing skills in a safe and structured environment.
In order to work, the debate requires different people to carry out different roles. As the representative of a
country, you will make decisions as a leader.

About TSMUN
The Township Model United Nations being held on the 12th – 14th September 2025 is a three day in-
person conference, an echo of the United Nations itself. It provides students an opportunity to fill into the
shoes of today’s diplomats to discuss and understand the conflicts and crises which affect millions around
the globe. Delegates indulge themselves in a heated discourse exchanging views of different countries,
whilst being the best diplomats they can be in attempts of securing the most elevated accolade which can
be achieved - the Best Delegate award. TSMUN works towards exposing students to both, competitive and
informative atmospheres, in which they are prompted to forge practical and realistic solutions for today’s
issues. It acquaints students with perspectives of different countries and communities along with concepts
that govern behavior in the real world.

This conference will, without a doubt, prove to be a great experience for veterans and newcomers alike.
Providing them with an ideal environment to voice their opinions and refine their public speaking skills.
With this conference, we feel confident that each and every one of our delegates will walk away having
learned new skills and with a broader sense of perspective.

Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee

SOCHUM, also known as the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee, is the Third Committee of the
United Nations General Assembly. It focuses on a wide range of social, humanitarian, and cultural issues
with the goal of promoting and protecting human rights. It was established in 1945, following the adoption
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It addresses issues like human rights, humanitarian affairs,
social development, and cultural preservation.

Special Political and Decolonization Committee (DUAL)

SPECPOL, the Special Political and Decolonization Committee, is the Fourth Committee of the United
Nations General Assembly. It deals with a wide array of issues, including decolonization, the effects of
atomic radiation, peacekeeping operations, and the peaceful uses of outer space. Essentially, it focuses on
political and territorial sovereignty, particularly in the context of post-Soviet states and decolonization
efforts.

Crisis
A crisis committee simulates a specific crisis event with rapid-fire decisions and fast-paced action. Unlike
traditional General Assembly committees, crisis committees focus on immediate responses to pressing
issues, often emulating small organizations or boards. Delegates represent individuals or roles within the
crisis scenario, rather than countries, and aim to navigate the crisis by writing and submitting directives,
engaging in moderated caucuses, and manipulating events through "out-of-room" tactics like crisis notes.
