At the end of this unit, the students are expect to:

1. Prepare successfully grow vegetables for potential commercial vegetable production.


2. Improve skills for growing fresh and safe vegetables without use of any pesticide.
3. Create awareness about kitchen gardening.
4. Produce vegetables that are rich sources of macro and micro nutrients and eventually
increase vegetable consumption and improve learners’ nutrition.
5. Showcase potentially small-scale food production model.
6. Inculcate among the learners the values of gardening, good health and nutrition and
love of labor.

1. Recyclable plastic bottles/pot, soil, seeds, shovel (or something to scoop the soil) and
spray water.
2. Choose 1 (one) among the following vegetable seeds you will plant: onion, lettuce,
tomato, potato, petchay, camote, radish, cucumber, okra.

To facilitate the practice of students planting skills, the


following steps should be followed:

1. Scoop the soil with shovel into the plant pot and fill it
up.
2. Place the soil in available pots such as plastic bottles,
egg trays, cans.
3. Pinch some seeds and scatter them into the soil. Once
done, push a little bit of the soil over the seeds to
cover them.
4. Fill the spray bottle with water and mist the soil.
5. Take good care of the plants to make them grow into
healthy ones. Observe the changes from time to time
and see when the plants have already sprouted .
