The Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project is a major hydropower initiative in Nepal, aiming to

harness the power of the Dudhkoshi River for electricity generation. It encompasses several
projects, including the Dudhkoshi Storage Hydroelectric Project (DKSHP) with a proposed
capacity of 635 MW, and the Dudhkoshi-9 project, a 166 MW run-of-river project. The
projects are in various stages of development, with some undergoing feasibility studies,
environmental impact assessments, and detailed design work.
The project consists of a simple weir with undersluice, side intake, gravel trap, approach
channel, an desalting basin, headrace tunnel, surge shaft, inclined pressure shaft and
horizontal penstock tunnel, surface powerhouse and a tailrace canal.

4|P age
►Location:
The projects are situated on the Dudhkoshi River, which flows through the
Solukhumbu district in Nepal.

5|P age
►Capacity:
The Dudhkoshi Storage Hydroelectric Project is planned for 635 MW,
while the Dudhkoshi-9 project is designed for 166 MW.
►Project Types:
The projects include both storage-type and run-of-river designs.
►Development Status:
Feasibility studies, environmental impact assessments, and detailed
designs are underway for various components of the project.
►Objectives:
The projects aim to address the energy deficit in Nepal, particularly
during the dry season, and contribute to the country's economic
development.
►Stakeholders:
The project involves various stakeholders, including the Nepal
Electricity Authority (NEA), the Government of Nepal, and international
financial institutions.
►Environmental and Social Considerations:
Environmental impact assessments and social impact studies are
being conducted to ensure responsible development.
►Economic Impact:
The project is expected to generate employment opportunities,
promote tourism (e.g., boat shipping, fisheries), and contribute to the
overall economic growth of the region.
