Form 4 Add Maths Structured Questions

TOPIC 1: Coordinate Geometry

Points A(2, 3) and B(10, 7) lie on a straight line.

a) Find the equation of the line passing through A and B in the form y = mx + c.

b) Another line passes through point C(4, -1) and is perpendicular to AB. Find the equation of this

line.

c) Determine the coordinates of the point of intersection of the two lines found in (a) and (b).

d) Calculate the area of triangle ABC.

TOPIC 2: Simultaneous Equations

Solve the system of equations:

(x/2) + (y/3) = 5

(2x/3) - (y/4) = 1

a) Solve the simultaneous equations algebraically.

b) Hence, find the value of 3x + 2y.

c) If x and y represent the sides of a rectangle, calculate its area.

TOPIC 3: Exponential Equations

Solve the equation:

3^(x+1) = 81 * 9^x

a) Express all terms in the same base and simplify.

b) Solve for x.

c) Hence, solve the equation: 2 * 3^(2x) - 5 * 3^x + 2 = 0.

TOPIC 4: Logarithms

Given that log10(x) + log10(x - 3) = 1,

a) Solve for x, showing all necessary restrictions.

c) Without using a calculator, evaluate:

i) log10(1000)

ii) log5(25)

d) If log_a(b) = 3 and log_a(c) = 2, express log_a((b^2)/(c*sqrt(b))) in terms of a.

d) If loga(b) = 3 and loga(c) = 2, express loga((b^2)/(cb)) in terms of a.

TOPIC 5: Binomial Theorem & Expansion

Expand (2x - 1/x^2)^6 up to the term in x^0.

a) Find the general term in the expansion.

b) Using the general term, determine the term independent of x.

c) Find the coefficient of x^3.

d) Hence or otherwise, evaluate the sum of the coefficients in the expansion.
