Title: GEM Process Software Installation Guidelines
1 Introduction
The purpose of this document is to provide the operator with a detailed procedure for installing the
GEM Process software. NOTE: The GP Troubleshooting Guide (*[Link]) document will no
longer be part of the GP installation kit starting with GP 5.30 and later. This document has been
moved to the Global Software Support (GSS) website. Contact your GSS representative if you
need this document for troubleshooting the host-link and back-link connections of the GP.
2 Installation Procedure
The following is a step-by-step guide to installing the GP software on the NT workstation. Make sure you have
closed all programs, and are logged in with administrative privileges before proceeding, or you will get
errors that will prevent you from continuing.
1. Locate [Link] inside the Disk1 folder of the GP installation set.
2. Double-click on [Link].
a) If an existing GP is still running, you will get this error:
Terminate the current GP and try the installation again. If you are upgrading from GP 5.20 to GP
5.30, go to the Task Manager and first ensure that all [Link] programs have been terminated.
b) If the AMATRTSCOMPUTERNAME system variable has not yet been defined, you will get this error:
Contact an Applied Materials Software Support Engineer to ensure that the NT front-end image
has the correct environment variable setting. Then try the installation again.
c) Installation should continue with the following splash screen:

3. If GP was not previously installed, you will get the Select a Drive. C: is the default. Click Next.
4. After setup initialization, the Welcome dialog box will appear. Click Next. Setup will then display the GEM
Process Version Information. Verify that the data is correct. Click Next.

3 For Customers with Passive Hosts
This section is only for customers who have configured their hosts as the PASSIVE entity. Normally, the host is
configured as the ACTIVE entity, and the equipment is the PASSIVE entity. Some customers have the opposite
configuration. Equipment configured for HSMS GEM can be set as the active entity of the HSMS link. The
traditional way of making changes in the *.ATC file is no longer supported in GP 5.20 and future releases.
During the new GP installation, when GP starts for the first time, ensure that the host-link goes to
COMMUNICATING (where the default Host setting is the “Active” entity). Once host communication is
established, use the following procedure to configure the host as the "Passive" entity:
• Query ECID 991 and ECID 992 by using S2F13
• Confirm if ECID 991 is set to "Host Computer IP Address", ECID 992 set to value of "1"
• If the values in Step 2 are not set to the host’s IP address, or 1, use S2F15 to set ECIDs 991 and 922
(see sample script below)
• Restart GP
• Re-configure the Host to be the "Passive" entity
• Ensure host communication is established
The above procedure is required for GP if it is being installed for the first time. The following is a set of sample
messages for querying and setting ECIDs.
