HOW TO MAKE A SPIRITUAL DIARY
A spiritual journal is a report of an encounter with God. Tim Lahaye talks
about this in his book: 'How to study the Bible alone'. And gives us a model
at the end of chapter three. In this form and gives us five points based on a
study of a passage from the Bible. I want to suggest a simpler model
with just two points:
WHAT IS GOD SAYING TO ME.
2. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO BASED ON THIS.
I will explain the two points and then illustrate.
1. What is God saying to me? There are several ways to
note this, among them:
A. You can write in the first person as if God were
speaking directly to you, using a sanctified imagination,
based on your meditation on a biblical passage:
B. Can you write a type of prayer expressing to God what
you are feeling based on a biblical passage; or,
C. Can you make a list of your observations, interpretations and
applications based on your study of a biblical passage.
2. What am I going to do based on this. This can also take several
shapes:
A prayer speaking directly to the Father, committing to
an act of obedience.
B. An application, indicating in a measurable or objective way, some
something you intend to do on this day or within two or three days
days. If you are feeling the importance of a change that only
will reveal itself in its entirety over weeks or months, can
to note and then seek from God what would be the first step to
to reach this bigger change. So note it down.
C. Many times God is calling you to a change of attitude.
In these cases, try to identify some action that will help to
to demonstrate whether there has been a change in attitude. Without such a definition,
it becomes very difficult to assess if you applied what God was wanting
Oh no.
Below are some examples of spiritual journals. You can see in the
variation of forms from one day to another, the dynamics of keeping a journal
according to the direction of the Spirit.
THREE EXAMPLES OF SPIRITUAL DIARIES
May second - Text of 1 John 1
What God is telling me: Knowing the truth leads me to obedience;
And obedience leads me to know the truth. This is the opposite of a circle.
vicious that always leaves me more tied up. It is a glorious circle that
becomes more free and joyful! The more I manage to obey, the more I will.

Application: I want to do everything possible to avoid sin. Sin makes me
wasting time and energy takes away my clarity of vision, hinders communion and the
love, and it distances me from God. It is a poison that will kill me if I continue
Who plays with poison? No one with a sound mind. One of the
The ways in which Satan tempts me is through the internet. I want to
commit to doing an internet fast for a week.
May 6 - Text 1 John 1
What God is telling me: Walk in the light, (your name) as I am in the light.
light; be perfect and be perfectly open. You have to acknowledge and
confess when you fail. In your next meeting with your discipler,
you should talk to him about your failures.
My response (application): Father, forgive me, I ask. I have failed regarding
to you. I acknowledge that. Help me walk in the light! And I decide that I will not use the
internet for the next two weeks. How am I going to memorize the text of 1 John
1.7.
September 3 - Text of John 11
Father, I thank you for the life of Mrs. Júlia. I thank you for giving more
six months of life to her, lifting her from the deathbed to receive life
eternal. I remember that I prayed for her in March, when she was in the hospital
disillusioned by the doctors, with cancer, and soon she got better, gaining
strength and joy to live. I praise you because you allowed me to share how
she could be certain of eternal life.
I know that she died/slept with this certainty and I am sure of myself
meet her briefly, in the sky. Father, I feel that you had a
purpose in extending her life, as besides having given her eternal life,
I feel that your life has become a bridge to also carry your family members.
friends along the same path. I ask that at the next meeting of our group
small many of these may be participating and have the opportunity to
to meet you just like he met Mrs. Júlia. (Note: The application is
embedded here in the prayer.) in the name of Jesus, amen!
