HOW TO MAKE A SPIRITUAL DIARY

A spiritual journal is a report of an encounter with God. Tim Lahaye talks


about this in his book: 'How to study the Bible alone'. And gives us a model
at the end of chapter three. In this form and gives us five points based on a
study of a passage from the Bible. I want to suggest a simpler model
with just two points:
WHAT IS GOD SAYING TO ME.
2. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO BASED ON THIS.

I will explain the two points and then illustrate.

1. What is God saying to me? There are several ways to


note this, among them:
A. You can write in the first person as if God were
speaking directly to you, using a sanctified imagination,
based on your meditation on a biblical passage:
B. Can you write a type of prayer expressing to God what
you are feeling based on a biblical passage; or,
C. Can you make a list of your observations, interpretations and
applications based on your study of a biblical passage.

2. What am I going to do based on this. This can also take several


shapes:
A prayer speaking directly to the Father, committing to
an act of obedience.
B. An application, indicating in a measurable or objective way, some
something you intend to do on this day or within two or three days
days. If you are feeling the importance of a change that only
will reveal itself in its entirety over weeks or months, can
to note and then seek from God what would be the first step to
to reach this bigger change. So note it down.
C. Many times God is calling you to a change of attitude.
In these cases, try to identify some action that will help to
to demonstrate whether there has been a change in attitude. Without such a definition,
it becomes very difficult to assess if you applied what God was wanting
