Kirinya Church of Uganda Secondary School
STUDENTS’ LEADERSHIP, 2019
By School Editorial Team 12/08/2019
About the Chairperson Electoral Commission
My name is Najjumba Jackline, the Chairperson Electoral Commission
Kirinya Church of Uganda Secondary School. I was appointed and
entrusted by the Headteacher to carry out this very sensitive process
and would therefore ably say that Kirinya Church of Uganda Secondary
School is a breeding ground for student leaders and future leaders. We
have a well organised electoral process governed by very clear electoral
laws.
Every year we get new leaders in school. This process begins by
students handing in their application forms, this is open to all students
from senior one to senior five, then those who have applied go for
screening where the applicants meet the electoral commission
committee to present their manifesto. This will determine whether
they move to the next level or not.
The most interesting part of this process is the general campaigns. Here
each applicant is given time during the school assembly to present
his/her manifesto and to convince other students on what she/he will
do when voted into office.
A one Patrick Ngarombo, who aspired for the post of entertainment
prefect had this to say at the campaign trail, “I believe that disability is
not inability” Iam going to transform this office, introduced in-door
games like chess etc; here he pulled out chess boards which sent the
whole school roaring, he thus became the most popular candidate
polling a total of 695 votes.
The final process includes a secret ballot and later a tally centre is put
into place. This year was a surprising one, the youngest contestant
beat their rivals like – Nampera Irene S.2 become the Head girl beating
other girls from upper classes, which also happened to Olyaka Boniface
S.2 who took up the post of Head boy.
The winners were announced during an assembly. I always encourage
those who have not made it to concede defeat and wait for another
opportune moment.
The last segment of the programme is the swearing process which I
conduct, the new leaders take oath that allows them to serve for three
years terms in office.
