Chapter 2
Role Of Government In Health
Question and Answers:-
Ques-1
What are the two types of health care services in our country?
Ans.
The two types of health care services in our country are:
i) Public Health Care Services
ii) Private Health Care Services
Ques-2
What kind of public health services are available at the village level, district, and cities?
Ans.
At the village level, there are health centres where there is usually a nurse and a village
health worker. They are trained in dealing with common illnesses and work under the
supervision of doctors at the Primary Health Centre (PHC). Such a PHC covers many villages
in rural areas.
At the district level, there is a district hospital that also supervises all the health centres in
the district.
Large cities have many government hospitals that provide a wide range of health care
services to people.
Ques. 3
What kind of private health facilities are available in rural and urban areas?
Ans.
Following are the facilities available in rural and urban areas:
i) In rural areas, there are Registered Medical Practitioners (RMP).
ii) Urban areas have a large number of doctors, many of them provide specialised services. There are
hospitals and nursing homes that are privately owned. There are many laboratories that do tests and
offer special facilities such as X-ray, ultrasound etc. There are also shops from where we buy
medicines.
Ques. 4
Why are poor people prone to illness?
Ans.
Those who are poor are in the first place undernourished. These people are not eating as much as
they should. They are not provided with basic necessities like fresh drinking water, adequate housing,
sanitation, clean surroundings etc., and are more likely prone to illness.
Ques. 5
Write a note on equality from the health perspective.
Ans.
In India, there is no equality in terms of health care services and facilities. There are many private
facilities, but they are out of reach for most of the people. Only a few people can afford to pay for
medical expenses.
Many villages do not have access to even basic healthcare. The number of doctors in government
hospitals is not enough to take care of the huge mass of poor people. Women usually do not get
priority in terms of medical care.
Many people have to borrow money when there is an illness in the family.
