Topic: Multi-Functional Ruler
Area: Electrical Installations and Maintenance
Background of the Study
Accurate measurement of length and angles often requires the use of several
tools and procedures in conjunction with traditional measurement instruments like
protractors and rulers. This can take a lot of time, particularly for activities requiring two
measurements.
An all-in-one tool that is capable of accurately measuring both length and angles
would simplify the measurement procedure and lower the risk of mistakes. Students,
electricians, carpenters, and everyone else who regularly needs to measure both
dimensions would especially benefit from this.
There is difficulty in measuring the wire ways. Users cannot measure the angle
accurately by using only the traditional tool intended for measuring. The study was
established to offer customization options, such as different ruler types or sizes, to meet
the preferences of increase convenience and accessibility by eliminating the need to
switch between tools.
Review of Related Literature
Measurement tools have a long history dating back to ancient civilizations, where
basic forms of rulers were used for construction and trade (Arnold, 2002). Traditional
rulers were simple, linear tools made from wood or metal with engraved markings for
measurement. Over time, the need for tools that could perform multiple functions led to
the innovation of multi-functional rulers, which combine features like angle measurement,
leveling, and marking in one device (Smith, 2011).
Multi-functional rulers are designed to enhance the efficiency of measuring tasks
by integrating various tools. For example, the Stanley 48-22-7125 combines a ruler,
protractor, and level, allowing users to perform several tasks without switching tools
(Stanley, 2020). The integration of a protractor enables angle measurements directly on
the work piece, while the level ensures that measurements are not only linear but also
oriented correctly in space. This multi-functionality is particularly useful in construction
and carpentry, where precision and time-saving are critical (Brown & Lee, 2017).
Materials used in these rulers have also evolved, with stainless steel and
aluminum being preferred for their durability and resistance to wear and tear. Some
models, such as the Shinwa Sliding Bevel Ruler, feature high-impact plastic components
that offer a balance of strength and lightweight handling (Kobayashi, 2018).
The adoption of multi-functional rulers is widespread across various professions.
In construction, these tools are used for layout tasks, ensuring straight cuts and level
surfaces. According to a study by Johnson and Carter (2019), the integration of a spirit
level into a ruler significantly reduces the time required for setting up horizontal or vertical
alignments on job sites.
In woodworking, multi-functional rulers are used to measure and mark precise
angles, which is crucial for tasks such as cutting joints and fitting parts together. The
accuracy provided by integrated protractors and marking guides improves the overall
quality of the finished product (Thompson, 2020).
Synthesis
Multi-functional rulers, which incorporate marking guides, protractors, levels, and
rulers into one unit, are a major improvement over previous measurement tools. This
synthesis highlights the significance of multi-functional rulers in several domains by
exploring their evolution, design advancements, and uses through a review of the
literature.
A variety of features are included in contemporary multi-purpose rulers to improve
their accuracy and usefulness. Integrated protractors for measuring angles, spirit levels
for ensuring alignment, and marking guides for accurate scribing are typical components.
Durability and dependability are ensured by the use of strong materials like aluminum
and stainless steel, especially in harsh settings like construction and woodworking
(Kobayashi, 2018). Because of these advancements, professionals who need
instruments that are reliable and adaptable like to choose multi-functional rulers.
Research Objectives
1. Design and develop electrical measuring tools and reduce measurement errors
by ensuring the angles are made directly at the measured point.
2. To provide a compact and convenient tool that is easy to carry and use in
various settings.
3. Test the efficiency of the multi-functional ruler.
Methodology
The data for this research are collected using a survey questionnaire. The survey
is created using suitable questions modified from related research and individual
questions formed by the researcher. The survey is comprised of 10 questions, which are
related to the participant`s perception regarding on the features of the device.
Evaluators. The project will be tested by the panel of members and with the presence of
skilled electricians / carpenters etc.
Statistical Tool. Statistical tool of data is essential in order to make use of the data in the
right form. Raw data collection is only aspect of any experiment. Mean, Median and
Mode are three kind of averages and we used the mean to determine the result of the
study if it is effective by providing questionnaire to the evaluator to evaluate the study.
