IB MYP Mathematics (Years 4 & 5) - Teacher's Guide
Overview
The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Mathematics aims to help students develop logical, analytical, and
problem-solving abilities through a balanced curriculum. In Years 4 and 5, students can follow either the
Standard or Extended pathway.
Aims of the Course
- Develop confidence in mathematical reasoning.
- Apply mathematics to real-world and interdisciplinary contexts.
- Use mathematical language and representations.
- Recognize patterns and use mathematical models.
- Reflect and evaluate mathematical approaches.

Criterion | Description
----------|----------------------------
A | Knowing and Understanding
B | Investigating Patterns
C | Communicating in Mathematics
D | Applying Mathematics in Real-life Contexts
Sample Assessment Tasks
Criterion A: Solve quadratic equations and explain steps taken.
Criterion B: Investigate a real-life pattern (e.g., population growth) and develop a model.
Criterion C: Present solutions using correct symbols, clear layout, and explanations.
Criterion D: Use math to plan a budget or analyze environmental data.
