To,
The Hon’ble Health Secretary
Department of Health, Government of Bihar
Patna, Bihar
Subject: Request for Revision and Timely Disbursal of Internship Stipend – PMCH ,Patna
Respected Sir/Madam,
We, the MBBS intern batch (2020-2025) of PATNA MEDICAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL ,Patna wish to
draw your attention to the issue of inadequate internship stipend and delayed disbursal, which
is affecting interns across government medical colleges in Bihar.
At present, the internship stipend stands at ₹20,000 per month, making it one of the lowest in
the country. This amount is not sufficient to meet basic living costs, transportation, meals, and
academic needs. In addition, the stipend is often disbursed quarterly or with unpredictable
delays, placing an undue financial burden on interns.
As part of our duties, we actively participate in ward duties, emergency care, clinical
documentation, minor procedures, and assist in surgeries—serving as an essential workforce
under supervision across departments. In view of this, we respectfully request:
1. An increase in the monthly internship stipend to a minimum of ₹40,000, in line with other
states.
2. Regular monthly disbursal of the stipend without delay.
We believe these are reasonable and justified demands, given the professional contributions
and responsibilities we undertake daily.
We sincerely hope that the Department of Health will acknowledge the urgency of this matter
and initiate the necessary steps as soon as possible. Failing which, we will be compelled to
initiate a protest across the state in coordination with other medical colleges to press for our
rights.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Yours sincerely,
MBBS Intern Batch (2020–2025)
