14 Course Learning Objectives
This is a fundamental, interesting and challenging course for the students of Electrical
Engineering program which is also a pre-requisite of the advanced courses such as Microwave
Engineering and RF/ Antenna courses. This course provides the knowledge of fundamentals of
Electromagnetics so that students can have the insight to the field of RF/Microwave engineering
and antennas. The course consists of calculus, concepts of electric & magnetic field and solution
of Maxwell’s equations.

15 Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs)
After successfully completing this course, the students will be able to:

Theory CLOs

1. Understand the Cartesian, Cylindrical & Spherical coordinate systems, concepts of electric &
magnetic field (static & time varying) and energy storage in electric & magnetic field (C3,
PLO1).
2. Analyse static electric & magnetic fields using Gauss’s, Coulomb’s, Ampere’s, KVL and Biot-
Savart’ laws for simple 2-D & 3-D geometrical problems (utilizing above three coordinate
systems) (C4, PLO1).
3. Solve the Maxwell’s equations for time varying fields and its application in wave propagation
for parameters such as phase velocity, medium impedance, complex propagation constant, etc
(C3, PLO2).
4. Produce a report that contains a review of pertinent information on the effects of electric and
magnetic fields to better understand any potential health hazard that includes a health risk
assessment of power-frequency electric-and magnetic-field exposures (C2, P7).
