IGCSE Additional Mathematics (0606)
Final Year Revision Plan
Introduction for Candidates:
This plan is structured to provide a clear, topic-by-topic revision pathway for your IGCSE
Additional Mathematics. It considers the typical content distribution across Paper 1 and Paper
2, offers strategic advice for tackling each paper, and includes valuable resources. The
suggested timings are flexible and should be adjusted based on your current proficiency and
personal schedules. It is very important to actively engage yourself during your free periods,
consistently practice, and thorough review your mistakes. Feel free to seek help from your
teachers or plan a private tutorial with them.
General Guidance for Candidates
• Active Revision is Paramount: Merely watching videos or reading notes isn't enough.
You must actively solve problems, practice questions, and work through past papers
independently.
• Understand, Don't Memorize: You must learn to develop a deep understanding of
concepts rather than rote memorization of formulas. This enables you to adapt to
unfamiliar problem types.
• Master the Basics: A strong foundation in core algebra, functions, and calculus is
crucial for both papers. Revisit these fundamentals if weaknesses are identified.
• Practice Under Exam Conditions: Regularly timed practice sessions with full past
papers are essential for developing speed, accuracy, and exam stamina.
• Learn from Mistakes: Every incorrect answer is an opportunity for growth. you should
meticulously review your errors, understand the root cause, and then practice similar
problems.
• Utilize All Resources: The links, past papers, and reliable resources provided for each
topic are carefully curated. You must explore and utilize them fully.
• Formula Sheet Familiarity: Ensure you are intimately familiar with the Add Math
formula sheet provided in the exam. You should know what's there and when to apply
it.

Paper 1: Core Concepts & Techniques
Overview
This paper primarily tests fundamental Add Math concepts, algebraic manipulation, and direct
application of techniques. Questions are generally more procedural, requiring accuracy in
calculations and clear presentation of working. Topics often involve sketching graphs, solving
equations/inequalities, and foundational calculus applications.
Guide for Paper 1 Preparation:
• Accuracy: It is very important to do your calculations carefully and show all
intermediate steps. Marks are awarded for method even if the final answer is incorrect
due to a slip.
• Algebraic Fluency: This paper heavily relies on strong algebraic skills. Dedicate time
to reinforcing manipulation of expressions, solving various equation types, and dealing
with indices and surds.
• Graph Sketching: Practice interpreting information from equations to accurately
sketch graphs of functions, quadratics, and identifying key features like intercepts and
turning points.
• Calculus Foundations: Ensure you are completely comfortable with the rules of
differentiation and integration, including chain, product, and quotient rules, and basic
applications like finding gradients of tangents and areas under curves.
Key Skills to Develop for Paper 1:
• Robust algebraic manipulation.
• Accurate differentiation and integration of standard functions.
• Precise graphing and interpretation of graphical information.
• Systematic approach to solving equations and inequalities.
• Careful interpretation of question requirements (e.g., "exact values," "show that").

Paper 2: Problem Solving & Advanced Applications
Overview
This paper delves into more complex problems, demanding a deeper conceptual
understanding and the ability to synthesize multiple mathematical techniques. Questions are
often more contextual, require extensive logical reasoning, and involve step-by-step problem-
solving. While calculations are vital, the emphasis often shifts to the problem-solving process
and the justification of steps.
Guide for Paper 2 Preparation:
• Develop Analytical Thinking: Learn to break down complex problems into smaller,
manageable parts. Learn to identify given information and what needs to be found.
• Strategy Development: Before calculations, articulate your plan of attack. Which
concepts are relevant? How will you connect them?
• Diagrammatic Representation: For kinematics, vectors, or geometry problems,
sketching clear, well-labelled diagrams is very important.
• Clear Communication: For "show that" questions or those requiring reasoned
arguments, students must clearly articulate their steps and assumptions.
• Contextual Understanding: Prepare for problems set in real-world scenarios.
Students need to translate word problems into mathematical models and interpret
their results in context.
Key Skills to Develop for Paper 2:
• Advanced problem-solving and analytical reasoning.
• Ability to link and apply concepts from different mathematical areas.
• Strong interpretative skills for word problems.
• Clear and logical presentation of mathematical arguments.
• Proficiency in handling more abstract or less direct applications of formulas.
