5 MARK QUESTIONS
13. How many litres of water will have to be added to 1125 litres of the 45% solution
of acid so that the resulting mixture will contain more than 25% but less than 30%
acid content?
14. A manufacturer has 600 litres of a 12% solution of acid. How many litres of a
30% acid solution must be added to it so that acid content in the resulting mixture
will be more than 15% but less than 18%?
15. The water acidity in a pool is considered normal when the average pH reading of
three daily measurements is between 7.2 and 7.8. If the first two pH reading are
7.48 and 7.85, find the range of pH value for the third reading that will result in
the acidity level being normal.
16. 𝑀𝐴
IQ of a person is given by the formula IQ = 𝐶𝐴 × 100 where, MA is the mental
age and CA is chronological age. IF 80 ≤ 𝐼𝑄 ≤ 140 for a group of 12-year-old
children, find the range of their mental age.
17. The three sides of a triangle are given by (2x+3)cm, (4x−1)cm and 14 cm. Based
on the above information , answer the following questions:
i) If the perimeter of triangle is at least 34 cm, then what is the minimum
value of x.
ii) Find x, if the sum of first two sides of triangle is more than the third side,
at least by 6 cm.
Graph the following inequality on the number line: 2x + 3> 4𝑥 − 1
CASE STUDY-II
18. In drilling world’s deepest hole, the Kola Superdeep Borehole, the deepest
manmade hole on Earth and deepest artificial point on Earth, as a result of
a scientific drilling project, it was found that the temperature T in degree Celsius,
x km below the surface of Earth, was given by:
T = 30 + 25 (x – 3), 3 < x < 15.
If the required temperature lies between 200o C and 300o C, then answer the
following questions:
i) Find the depth, x.
ii) Solve for x. -9x+2> 18 OR 13x+15 ≤−4
iii) If |x| < 5 then the value of x lies in the interval.
