🏐 Volleyball Lesson Plan – Basic Introduction

Class Level: Grade 5–8


Time Duration: 40–50 minutes
Topic: Introduction to Volleyball
Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
 Understand the basic rules and positions in volleyball
 Perform basic volleyball skills (serve, pass, set)
 Work in teams with communication and coordination

🔶 Materials Needed:
 Volleyballs (1 per 4–5 students)
 Net (or string if net unavailable)
 Whistle
 Chalk/cones for boundaries
 Diagram/chart showing volleyball positions

🕘 Lesson Structure:
1. Warm-Up (5–8 minutes)
 Jog around the court – 2 rounds
 Dynamic stretches (arm circles, lunges, side-to-side jumps)
 Quick reaction game (e.g., jump when whistle blows)

2. Introduction & Explanation (5 minutes)


 Brief history of volleyball
 Show court diagram and explain positions (Setter, Libero, Spiker, etc.)
 Basic rules:
o 6 players per side
o 3 touches max per team before crossing the net
o No catching or holding the ball
o Rotate when gaining serve

3. Skill Practice (20 minutes)


🟠 A. Underarm Pass (Bump) – 5 min
 Show correct hand positioning
 Practice in pairs: toss and bump
🟠 B. Overhead Pass (Set) – 5 min
 Demonstrate finger positioning
 Practice with partners: toss and set
🟠 C. Underhand Serve – 5 min
 Explain stance and contact point
 Students serve to wall or across short distance
🟠 D. Combine Skills – 5 min
 In groups of 3: toss – bump – set
 Rotate roles after every round

4. Mini Game (10–12 minutes)


 Form small teams (4 per side if not enough players)
 Set up a half-court game or full court if space allows
 Use simplified rules: 3-hit rally, underhand serve only
 Encourage communication (“Mine!”, “Set!”)

5. Cool Down & Reflection (5 minutes)


 Light jogging in place
 Deep breathing, arm and leg stretches
 Ask students:
o What skill did you enjoy the most?
o What was challenging?
o What is one new thing you learned?

📝 Assessment & Observation


 Teacher observes and notes:
o Participation and effort
o Team communication
o Proper skill techniques
 Optional: Give stars or points for teamwork, fair play, skill execution

✅ Extension or Homework (Optional)


 Watch a short volleyball game (YouTube link or PE class screening)
 Draw the court and label player positions
 Reflect: “How can we improve team coordination in volleyball?”
