Empowering Homeless Mothers: A Holistic Approach to Sustainable Change
II. Rationale
The proposal "Empowering Homeless Mothers: A Holistic Approach to
Sustainable Change." is based on our research showing that small group activity/seminar
will help effectively in empowering the homeless mothers. In Barangay 343, Santa Cruz,
Manila, where there are growing number of homeless families, this activity aims to provide
support in lifting their full potential through seminar about the rights and advocacies of a
family, ways on proper saving techniques, as well as to strengthen their spiritual well-being.
By focusing on this activity, the homeless mothers will learn not just their rights and
advocacies but also strengthen their faith and spiritual well-being.
This proposal aligns well with the mission of the TBHBBC- Sigla Tala Center, which
aims to transform families and communities to become empowered, exercising freedom from
the bondage of poverty as God has promised. By doing this program, the Sigla Tala Center
can effectively identify the needs of the homeless mothers and their children.
This program focuses on uplifting the homeless mothers by providing knowledge on
their fundamental rights and advocacies that will gain a comprehensive understanding about
their legal protection as an individual homeless.
III. Purpose and Objective/s of Group Work Activity/Program
The purpose of conducting the group work in the "Empowering Homeless Mothers"
program is to empower families by providing them with the information and skills needed to
protect their rights, advocate for their interest, and make informed financial decision. Through
facilitated seminar and activities, the program aims to provide mothers to engage actively in
this seminar to develop strong support and knowledge within the community.
The objectives of the group work include helping participants understand their rights in
terms of family, improving their knowledge about ways on saving their money, improving the
participants social skills, and promoting safe space.
IV. Description of the Group Work Activity/Program
The Empowering Homeless Mothers program will include a small group of 9
participants, all of whom are homeless mothers from Barangay 343, Santa Cruz, Manila.
Keeping the group small allows for a safe space where participants can freely share their
stories, connect, and support one another. The program’s main goal is to educate these
mothers on their rights and advocacies, ways on saving their money, while also enhancing
their spiritual well-being.
The program will run for six days, with each session lasting around 60 minutes. It will
feature guided discussions on safety and awareness, family discussion, personal growth, and
the sharing of personal experiences. Activities will include practical exercises aimed at
building trust and improving communication, along with seminar designed to develop
everyday life skills and increase legal awareness. Overall, these sessions are intended to
build a strong sense of community, encourage personal development, and give participants
the tools they need for lasting positive change.
V. Target Members
The target members for the "Empowering Homeless Mothers" program will consist of
nine homeless mothers from Barangay 343, Santa Cruz, Manila. All participants must be a
homeless, mother. The program will encourage active participation in all six sessions, with
participants expected to engage in discussions and activities to help foster a supportive
atmosphere for everyone. By attending these sessions, participants will gain valuable tools for
personal development, self-awareness, and increased legal awareness.
VI. Resources Needed
The materials that will be use while conducting the sessions were requested to the
Sigla Tala Center, the materials that were going to use are Table, Chairs, Papers, Pens, and
Television for presenting the power point. In addition to that, the Center will also issue a
Certification for the homeless mothers at the end for attending the five sessions and the
Social work intern will provide a token and gifts as appreciation. The sessions were going to
conduct at Sigla Tala Center and facilitated by the intern social workers and staff of Sigla Tala
Center (Executive Director and Agency Supervisor).
