1. Imagine a village has only one well. How can the people use it so everyone
gets enough water?

They can take turns, avoid wasting water, and store it carefully. They could also
collect rainwater or dig more wells.

2. Why do you think some places face water scarcity even if the Earth has so
much water?

Most of Earth's water is salty or frozen. Only a small amount is fresh and usable.
Some areas don't get enough rain or don't have good ways to store water.

1. Water is called the universal solvent because it can dissolve more things than
any other liquid.

2. The examples of some of the natural sources of water are oceans, rivers,
streams, lakes and ponds.
3. i) No, it is not safe to drink water directly from a lake.
ii) Lake water can have germs, dirt, and chemicals that can make you sick. iii)
It needs to be filtered and boiled or treated before it is safe to drink.

4. The drinking water sources are getting polluted because,

a) People throw garbage.


b) Factories dump dirty water.
c) Farmer use too many chemicals.
d) Oil spills from ships and boats.
e) Plastic waste.
5. Some simple ways to save water at home:

i) Turn off tap while brushing your teeth.

ii) Take shorter showers to use less water.

iii) Use a bucket instead of a hose to wash the car.

iv) Don't play with water or leave taps running for fun.

6. Effects of water scarcity:


a) Farms can't grow enough food because crops need water. b)
Animals and plants may die without water.
c) People can get sick from using dirty water.
