Class IX – Artificial Intelligence

Part B: Unit-2 Data Literacy

Homework Questions:
1. Tabulate the factors that decide if the data is good or bad?
2. Differentiate between Textual Data and Numeric Data.
3. Define the terms Data Processing and Data Interpretation.
4. Differentiate between Data Security and Data Privacy.
5. Name the primary and secondary sources of Data Acquisition.
6. What are the ethical concerns surrounding Data Acquisition?
7. Name any five graphs that can be made using Tableau software
8. In the below excel sheet-

• Is the Year qualitative or quantitative?

• Is Song Length discrete or continuous?
• Is the Genre discrete or continuous?

9. What is the importance of data visualization?

10. Explain Data Privacy and Data Security.

Answer the following:

1. What do you understand by the term Data Literacy?
Or Who do you think is a Data Literate?
Ans: Data literacy is the ability to understand, interpret and communicate with data. It's about
being able to collect, analyze, and show data in ways that make sense. Data Literate is a
person who can interact with data to understand the world around them.
Data literacy is essential because it enables individuals to make informed decisions, think
critically, solve problems, and innovate.

2. Explain the different parts of a Data Pyramid with help of a diagram.

Ans: We can understand the parts of a Data Pyramid from the below diagram where moving from
top to bottom it is seen that:
• Data is available in a raw form. Data in this form is not very useful.
• Data is processed to give us information about the world.
• Information leads to knowledge of how things are happening.
• Wisdom allows us to understand why things are happening in a particular way.

3. What is a Data Literacy Process Framework? Name the various stages of it.
Ans: The data literacy framework provides guidance on using data efficiently and with all
levels of awareness. It is an iterative process.
The stages in a Data Literacy Frame work are as follows:

4. What are the primary factors determining the usability of data?

Ans: The factors that determine the usability of data are:
a) Structure – that defines how the data is stored. For example, storing data in spreadsheet
is a good structure than storing the data in text format.
b) Cleanliness - Clean data is free from duplicates, missing values, outliers, and other
anomalies that may affect its reliability and usefulness for analysis.
c) Accuracy - This indicates how well the data matches real-world values, ensuring
reliability. Accurate data closely reflects actual values without errors, enhancing the quality
and trustworthiness of the dataset.

5. What are Data Features? What are its types?

Ans: Data features are the characteristics or properties of the data. They describe each piece
of information in a dataset. For example, in a table of student records, features could include
things like the student's name, age, or grade. There are two types of Data Features needed
in an AI model:
a) Independent features are the input to the model—they're the information we provide to
make predictions.

b) Dependent features, on the other hand, are the outputs or results of the model—they're
what we're trying to predict.

6. What are the different methods of Data Interpretation?

Ans: Based on the two types of data, there are two methods of data interpretation:
a) Qualitative Data Interpretation: Qualitative data tells us about the emotions and feelings
of people. It is mainly focused on insights and motivations of people. For example,
customer reviews analysis for any product or service is qualitative data interpretation.
b) Quantitative Data Interpretation: Quantitative data interpretation is made on numerical
data. It helps us answer questions like “when,” “how many,” and “how often”. For example
– (how many) numbers of likes on the Instagram post.

7. Differentiate between Qualitative and Quantitative Data Interpretation.

8. What are the various types of Data Interpretation?

Ans: There are three types of Data Interpretation:
Textual DI
▪ The data is mentioned in the text form, usually in a paragraph.
▪ Used when the data is not large and can be easily comprehended by reading.
▪ Textual presentation is not suitable for large data.
Tabular DI
▪ Data is represented systematically in tabular format or in the form of rows and
columns.
▪ Title of the Table contains the description of the table content.
▪ Column Headings contains the description of information contained in columns.
Graphical DI
▪ It represents data as graphs, charts or infographics, making complex data easier to
understand.
▪ It is helpful for audiences who are more visually oriented.
▪ Bar graphs, Pie chart, Line chart etc… are used.

9. Explain the process of Data Acquisition in brief.

Ans:
Data Acquisition, also known as acquiring data, is the process of gathering data. In the
context of AI and machine learning, it involves searching for and collecting datasets suitable
for training models.

The process generally includes three key steps:

1. Data Discovery
Class IX – Artificial Intelligence
Part B: Unit-2 Data Literacy
Finding and downloading existing datasets.
Example: For a self-driving car, collect images of roads, cars, traffic signs, and pedestrians.

2. Data Augmentation
Making more data by slightly changing existing data.
Example: Change an image’s brightness, color, or angle to create new versions.

3. Data Generation
Recording new data using sensors or devices.
Example: Sensors recording temperature, speed, or video footage.

10. At which stage of the AI project cycle does Tableau software prove useful?
Ans: Tableau is a powerful data visualization and business intelligence (BI) platform that
helps people see and understand data more effectively. It is very useful during the data
exploration stage of AI Project Cycle.

Tableau allows users to connect to various data sources, explore and analyze information,
and create interactive visualizations like charts, graphs and dashboards.
