I. Objective:
At the end of 40 minute’s discussion students will be able to distinguish
rhyming words from non-rhyming words.
II. Subject Matter:
Topic: Rhyming and non-rhyming words

III. Lesson Proper

A. Motivation
The teacher will present a poem.

The Red Car

I saw a car.
It was far.
But I know it was red.
Oh, I see old Ned.
He went out the car that was red.
He walked on the lane.
He was holding his cane

The teacher will ask the following question:


1. What did you observe about the ending sounds of some words in the
poem The Red Car?
2. Can you find other word pairs in the poem that end with a similar sound?
B. Lesson Presentation

Rhyming words are two or more words that have the same or similar
ending sound.

Example:
bed- red
hen-men
ten-Ben
mat-sat
fat-cat

Non-rhyming words are words that do not have the same or similar ending
sound

Examples:
bed- bun
men- sat
ton- tin
mat- mom
fat-can

C. Analysis/Abstraction:

 The teacher will ask the students to read and identify if it is


Rhyming words or Non-rhyming words and paste it in the box.

bat-rat pen-men hit-lip red-bed win-won

 The teacher will dictate a words and students will supply for its
rhyming word.
D. Generalization:
The teacher will ask the following question:
1. What do you call a words that has the same sound?
2. What do you call a words that do not have the same or similar sound?
3. How can you differentiate a rhyming and non-rhyming words?
4. What is an example of rhyming words and non-rhyming words?

E. Application:
The teacher will divide the class into two groups.
Group 1:
Cut the pictures and paste it in the smiley face if it rhymes and sad face if
does not rhyme.

Group 2:
Encircle the words that rhyme.
IV. Evaluation:
Write R if the words Rhyme and NR if does not Rhyme.
