Dear the Committee of IUP Geological Engineering UGM 2024,

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Based
on a quote by Mother Teresa and driven by a profound desire to make a meaningful impact on
the community, I am inspired to embark on a journey within the field of geological engineering.
I'm Aprillia …, an 18-years-old graduate at SMAN …. In the pursuit of knowledge, I find
solace in reading words of wisdom, fostering a deep appreciation for insights that shape the
human experience. My keen sense of curiosity is one of my greatest assets. This natural
curiosity drives my desire to explore and solve problems related to geology, which is a quality
I hope to use to further my career in geological engineering. I also have a strong adaptability
to discover new potential in Indonesia.
Through my active participation in multiple organisation committees, I have developed
a broad skill set and a strong dedication to community involvement. Serving as a key member
of the Paskibra Organizing Committee, I developed organisational prowess to ensure the
smooth execution of events. In the Moonzher Cup, my role within the Security Division
underscored my dedication to responsibility and vigilance. Additionally, contributing to
Independence Day committees deepened my sense of civic duty. My soft skills, which include
proficient problem-solving, efficient time and project management, and the capacity to perform
well under pressure, demonstrate my preparedness for a variety of challenging situations.
The Indonesian archipelago has interesting geological conditions because the
archipelago was formed by the collision of large tectonic plates. Based on Indonesia's
geological conditions, Indonesia is an area where three large tectonic plates meet, namely the
Indo-Australian plate, the Eurasian plate and the Pacific plate. Apart from that, Indonesia's
geological condition is as a meeting place between the Mediterranean mountain range and
the Pacific circumference. The impact of Indonesia's geological conditions causes Indonesia
to have many volcanoes and become an earthquake area. Geological engineering can play a
role in natural disaster mitigation, including mapping the risk of earthquakes, landslides and
tsunamis. This education is also useful in the field of natural resource exploration, such as oil,
gas, coal and geothermal. The impact of Indonesia's geological conditions causes Indonesia
to have an abundance of natural resources. Geological engineering plays an important role to
explore these natural resources in order to relieve Indonesia from energy resources
dependence on countries outside Indonesia.
Choosing Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has its roots in its long history as one of
the most prestigious and ancient universities in Indonesia. The International Undergraduate
Program for geological engineering at UGM appeals to me because I want to accept the most
recent geological knowledge available. I have no doubt that UGM's illustrious past and
dedication to academic excellence will create the perfect atmosphere for me to pursue my
love of geological engineering and make a significant contribution to the discipline. This
academic endeavour is a perfect fit for my goal of receiving a thorough and internationally-
oriented geological engineering education.
I aspire to become a member of the prestigious UGM family because of my deep
passion to improve education and promote geological engineering for the benefit of all
communities. I'm inspired by the idea of joining a community that places a high priority on
education and service, and I hope to use my future geological engineering training to
advance this goal.
Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Aprilia …..
I am writing this letter consciously to apply for Geological engineering in UGM’s
International Undergraduate Program because it has always been my dream since I was a
kid, and it's time to make my dream come true. Hi, my name is Kalinda …, a twelfth grader in
SMA …. My hobbies are reading and watching movies, which led me to join Teater Cahaya.
In Teater Cahaya we were tasked to do some acting, make a script, voice training, and physical
training. These activities build our confidence, communication skill, and leadership skills.
When I was assigned as treasurer at Teater Cahaya, I always made sure that every member
of the club did not get any difficulties from my decision. That is why I always do some member
meetings before I decide on something. As one of the person in charge of Teater Cahaya
activities, I am responsible for the Moondeka (Moonzher merdeka), Open House Teater
Cahaya, Club activity demonstration, club jamboree, Nobar-Nobir, and Bubar (Buka Bareng).
During my high school time, I also have been a member of the committee several
times. I am the treasurer of LDKS 2024 (Latihan Dasar Kepemimpinan Siswa), class treasurer
for three consecutive years, and one of the organizers for Moonzher Cup, specifically handling
Artist Relations and Liaison Officer for RAN. From this experience, I learned the importance
of communication with external parties as well as fellow committee members, punctuality,
attention to detail, and teamwork are key factors in achieving the success of an event.
As I grow older, I often hear about energy crisis issues, especially concerning fossil
fuels. Oil is a non-renewable natural resource, meaning the reserves we have now will
eventually run out. The MAHB Stanford graph predicts fossil fuel reserves for the coming years
are expected to be depleted by 2052, which is about 27 years from now. It remains a fact that
the world will face a shortage of fossil fuel reserves in just a few decades. My fear grows as I
learn that an energy crisis is looming in the coming years, especially since oil is a crucial
element in human life. If oil runs out, the world could descend into chaos, a lack of oil supply
as fuel combined with rising global demand could lead to massive inflation. Until now, there
has been no truly effective substitute for oil that can support daily life. This motivates me to
seek new hydrocarbons as effective replacements for oil, ensuring that future generations do
not have to experience a fuel crisis that impacts various sectors of life. Since childhood, I have
always been curious and wanted to be part of the process of producing oil. My curiosity about
this comes from my father, who works at an Indonesian oil company, Pertamina.
My father once explained in simple terms about the processing of crude oil into fuel oil,
and I am very interested in this topic. That is why I want to deepen my knowledge by studying
geological at International Undergraduate Program Gadjah Mada University, because I believe
that IUP Gadjah Mada University is the best place for me to enhance my understanding and
satisfy my curiosity about the subsurface beneath the earth and their processing methods until
it can be used for daily needs. IUP UGM also offers opportunities to build broader relationships
with a wider international perspective. I believe that this can help me synergize and collaborate
with even more people.
In conclusion, I would like to point out that I am aware of the kind of creativity, logic,
collaboration, and also systematic thinking. With my abilities and the goals I have for the future,
I am confident that my passion, dedication, and determination make me well suited to pursue
this field of study. Therefore, I hope you will find me as a great addition to the university due
to my interest in geological engineering

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerly,
Kalinda …
Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing this motivation letter to apply to the International Undergraduate Program

in the Faculty of Geological Engineering at Gadjah Mada University. I am Abraham… and I
am currently a twelve grader in SMA …. I consider myself as an understanding and caring
person, also a supportive person. In my high school year, I have achieved some kind of
achievement that I think is the best in my life. My kind of achievement is not winning a medal
or victory, but instead I gained new experiences and learned many new things. I once
participated in the committee for my school music festival. From joining this committee, I
learned how to work in a team in the right way and also learn how to organize music events.
Studying Geological Engineering is incredibly rewarding for several reasons. I am very
interested in learning about our earth that we walk on. I am very curious about the development
of this earth. What has changed over these hundreds of years. Also because of the demand
for geological engineers is expected to continue to grow as more infrastructure projects are
undertaken around the world. I believe that this program can answer my curiosity and help me
to reach my dream career.
What draws me to Gadjah Mada University through the International Undergraduate
Program (IUP) is its reputation for cutting-edge research and practical training in geological
sciences. I am particularly inspired by the university's commitment to innovation in areas such
as environmental geology and energy resource exploration. I am confident that the program's
rigorous curriculum and hands-on learning opportunities will equip me with the technical
expertise and critical thinking skills needed to address complex geological challenges.
Looking ahead, I aspire to specialize in Mineral Resources and contribute to
sustainable resource management in Indonesia and beyond. By joining Gadjah Mada
University, I hope to collaborate with like-minded peers and esteemed faculty members to
drive meaningful solutions that balance human development with environmental stewardship.
With all the potential and enthusiasm that I have, I am sure that I will be a student who makes
a positive contribution in IUP Geological Engineering UGM. I hope that I will be given the
opportunity to take part in further selection and prove my commitment to the field for
Geological Engineering.
Thank you for considering my application. I am excited about the possibility of joining
the Gadjah Mada University community and contributing to its vibrant academic and research
culture. I look forward to the opportunity to further discuss how I can contribute to and benefit
from your Geological Engineering program.
My name is Putu …., you can call me …. I came from …, and I am interested in
studying in UGM’s IUP, specifically in the chemical engineering faculty.
I consider myself as an easy going and hardworking person. I am comfortable with
making conversations with random strangers, and I welcome challenges as a method to see
how far I can go and grow my abilities. These qualities can be seen in my long term
involvement in both academic and non-academic endeavors.
Since I was in grade 5, I have been active in an organization within my school known
as the SLO.. There, I worked with both students and staff of different ages, often people I’ve
never met prior. I was often tasked with handling people & leading projects. My most recent
work within the organization involves being a head of the school’s Yearbook Production
Team.
At the same time, I also took on many extracurricular activities such as swimming,
karate, gymnastics, drama, and choir, attending many festivals and competitions in each
field. To prepare for such events, I had to juggle practicing with SLO work and my studies for
a long time.
In addition, my school environment itself is quite competitive. My school’s curriculum
required students to take daily exams that affected the students’ total averages, sometimes
even holding tests on Saturdays if you failed certain exams. As such, students, including
myself, find ourselves given only the night before to study for each exam, often getting less
than optimal sleep for our age. Through these hardships, I’ve developed many skills, such as
leadership, patience, management and grit in order to perform well.
One of the key factors that influenced my major choice was an event that happened
when I was young. Among thousands of employees, me and my family were selected to
have an exclusive tour around the research facilities of the company my father worked under
- ADNOC - at around 2022. Watching all the machines, valves, compressors, workers and
other equipment being set in motion felt magical to me. I thought, “what if I got to work here
too?”
There are many reasons why I chose IUP. I have lived abroad almost all my life, thus
I am more familiar with international curriculums. I am also interested in exposing myself to
more of the international scene through student exchange programs. With my experience
and skills, I can work in positions and tasks requiring tenacity, patience and leadership skill
under tight schedules while keeping a leveled head.
I believe that these skills will be beneficial for me during my study time in UGM. At
the same time, I am certain my skill can contribute positively to UGM. Therefore, I am certain
that I can be a great addition to the faculty.
Dear Admissions Committee of Civil Engineering UGM,
My name is Muhammad …, an alumnus of ….. I am writing this letter to apply for
admission to the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada. After my first attempt to
gain admission through the SNBT and UTUL UGM, I am now determined to take another
step toward fulfilling my academic aspirations. The experiences I gained during the gap year
taught me valuable lessons from my previous mistakes and helped me create a more
organised plan for my next move.
My visit to Kyoto University Civil Engineering laboratory back in 2022 opened a new
prologue in my life. I witnessed such wonderful skills, devices, and creations that can assist
people to live, work, and travel safely and comfortably that I’ve never deeply thought of one
before. Those experiences made up my mind to focus on the future. I'm certain that in
Universitas Gadjah Mada, I can find knowledge from a professional mentor with fascinating
facilities which, if I may say, is on par with universities abroad that can help my goals to
make a more sustainable environment for our community.
My visit to certain overseas countries is not just for a vacation, but related to some
projects that I made in High Schools. I’m joining a research team during my first semester of
highschool, then became a project leader for Natural Corrosion Inhibitors and the use of
Eco-Bricks alongside Maggot-Based Waste Management Systems and brought it to the
international stage side to side with other inventions from around the world in the next
following years. My team's hard work paid off by achieving two gold medals from KISEF
2023 and UAD FASTDAY 2021 and 1 bronze from Science Zone JSSF 2022.
My experiences have taught me some precious lessons and made me understand
myself better. I am a trustworthy individual with strong leadership abilities, can work very well
under high tension, persistent and appreciate honesty and punctuality. I am certainly sure
with the mentor teaching ability and facilities that I have if I am accepted to become
Undergraduate Program Civil and Environmental Engineering Universitas Gadjah Mada
student not only can bring Universitas Gadjah Mada name even greater not only in
Indonesia but also in international fields.
My future plan is to become a professional contractor and university lecturer to
improve Indonesia both in terms of infrastructure development and academic excellence. All
in all, I hope my letter leaves a good impression and makes me a potential consideration as
an addition to the faculty.

learning. This is what made me decide to choose the IUP UGM program. Equipped with a
variety of fantastic advantages, starting from the opportunity to earn international experiences
from dual degrees in the UK, Sweden and Netherlands, student exchanges, flagship short
programs, to other things that I look forward to when I study at Gadjah Mada University.
I have concluded my education and background. I would likely appreciate the
opportunity to have an IUP UGM Chemical Engineering program. Thank you for your time and
consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,
Dimas …
I have always been interested in studying chemistry throughout school, keen on
learning new topics. My father has always been an inspiration to me, as I’ve seen how hard
he studies, even decades after experience of work. I think this is what makes me want to study
hard. Although my father studies industrial engineering, his colleague studied chemical
engineering and was also able to follow a similar path towards the same workforce, therefore
I believe this is truly what made me want to take chemical engineering as my desired choice
of course; to follow father’s footsteps through other means with results alike. Both my parents
and my brother have deep influences on me, as I can notice how hard they all study or studied
to be where they are today, and I should follow through.

I, Ananda …., from …., would like to introduce myself as a valuable addition to UGM.
I would describe myself as an eager yet calm person, as I am impatient to learn new stuff but
can take my time in doing so, making sure I understand what is taught to me. Another trait I
have that I can talk about is my relentless dedication to help others no matter the obstacle I
face. Following that, I was asked to help in events, such as the SLO Fair, where departments
such as academics or discipline, discuss what they offer in their departments. Volunteering in
this fair, I introduce academic benefits to other students in my school on why studying hard
should be done everyday to ensure efficient learning all around the school year. Since my
school has exams everyday which consist of topics or chapters learnt from previous weeks
tested on the following week, I make sure I study as soon as I get home, guaranteeing I
understand what is tested for the upcoming exams. Not only that I study the topics thoroughly,
I double check the morning prior to the exam, noting the key essential topics that will ensure I
acquire the best grades. Consequently, I also assure my fellow classmates to get the help they
require by aiding them in subjects they need assistance in.

I choose IUP Chemical Engineering because it would be a good foundation in my

higher education following my school years. Not only because there’s a language barrier
involving English, but also that I believe through this IUP with its student exchange programs
and double degree programs, UGM can increase its international recognition. This also allows
international students like myself to experience the culture
around UGM, learn the local language, self-development, and make new friends on campus.
This also prepares us for our career, as working abroad is a possibility through this IUP.

I believe UGM should accept me, as I would be a great addition to not only the campus
itself, but also to the IUP Chemical Engineering as I am great in aiding problem-solving and
teamwork. Along with volunteering, I can ensure helping friends in need of assistance with
their studies.
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my strong motivation to apply to the International
Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Engineering at University of Gadjah Mada, specifically in
the Industrial Engineering Department.
My name is Nakeisha …. I am currently a twelfth grader student from Al Azhar Islamic
Senior High School 9 Yogyakarta. During my high school time, I actively participated in youth
scientific work (KIR), where I learned and delved into research. My first competition was the
ISIF 2023 event, where I won a silver medal for research on flavonoid content in tempeh. I
also won a gold medal in the energy category at I2ASPO 2023. In 2024, I earned a gold medal
and special award at WICE in Malaysia for my research on grasshopper flour to increase
broiler chicken mass. The last competition I participated in was the ISIF 2024 event in Bali,
where I managed to get a silver medal with my research namely, “Jogja Quest” an interactive
board game with the theme of Yogyakarta culture. In Organization practices, I am a member
of the Class Representative Council (MPK). I joined a Ramadhan work program with Student
Council (OSIS) and MPK, assisting with religious activities at local mosques and TPAs.
Besides, I am also a member of MTMA, where I joined the Hygiene Department and also the
IT Department afterwards.
Through these experiences, I have developed essential skills in time management,
teamwork, responsibility, and empathy. These activities not only deepened my understanding
of scientific principles but also fuelled my curiosity. Moreover, the problem-solving skills I
developed while conducting research and overcoming challenges in team projects will be
invaluable in tackling complex issues.
Growing up in a small mining city, I was exposed to an environment of technology,
industry, and project management. Observing the complex logistics of the mining operations,
from extraction to processing, sparked my curiosity in optimizing processes and resource
management. I realized that behind every large industrial activity, there is careful planning and
structured system analysis. This motivated me to study industrial engineering, which is
essential for the planning, control, and improvement of production and distribution networks
to guarantee their best potential performance.
Having this background drives me to seek the Industrial Engineering International
Undergraduate Program at University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) since it provides a worldwide
viewpoint and international experience. Apart from that, studying in this field will allow me to
deepen my understanding of industrial system optimization, while developing the analytical
and managerial skills needed to meet the challenges of future industries. Furthermore, UGM’s
stellar reputation further makes it the ideal place for my academic and personal growth.
I believe I am a strong candidate for the Industrial Engineering International
Undergraduate Program at University of Gadjah Mada because of my achievements and
experiences equipped with the skills, discipline, and determination to excel in the field. I am
eager to immerse myself in the rigorous curriculum of the Industrial Engineering program at
UGM.
Sincerely,
Nakeisha ….
Dear Admissions Committee,

My name is Maryam …., though most people know me as …. I was born and raised in
Jakarta and am currently a 17-year-old student at SMA …. As the youngest of six siblings, I
have grown up learning to navigate challenges with determination and enthusiasm, which has
shaped me into a hardworking and ambitious individual.

Since I was young, I’ve been drawn to problem-solving and planning. Whether initiating
conversations with peers as a child or crafting detailed itineraries for family outings, I have
always enjoyed organizing and optimizing processes. This natural inclination has led me to
aspire to pursue Industrial Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), particularly the
International Undergraduate Program (IUP).

During my high school years, I actively participated in the student council, specifically
in the fundraising division (Danus). My primary role involved raising funds by selling items
such as food and toys. This experience taught me valuable lessons in business efficiency,
quality control, and meeting deadlines, even when placed in unfamiliar roles. Additionally, I
consider myself a fast learner—able to quickly grasp new concepts and adapt to various
situations. However, I am also aware of my weaknesses, such as occasional forgetfulness
and susceptibility to distractions. Recognizing these traits, I have actively worked on strategies
to improve my focus and organization skills.

My desire to join UGM stems from my recent visit to the campus. I was captivated by
its green and serene environment, with fresh air and majestic trees providing shade and
comfort. This experience reaffirmed my decision to choose UGM, a university renowned not
only for its academic excellence but also for its welcoming atmosphere.

The IUP program, in particular, appeals to me because of its focus on English as the
medium of instruction, preparing students for international opportunities. I aspire to continue
my education abroad for my master’s degree, and IUP UGM provides the ideal foundation for
achieving this goal. Moreover, the program offers a wide range of career prospects, from
product analyst to data scientist, which aligns perfectly with my career aspirations.

Industrial Engineering fascinates me because it focuses on optimizing processes,

PT Astra, contributing to the company’s success while applying the knowledge and skills I
acquire at UGM.

If given the opportunity to join the IUP program, I plan to immerse myself in academic
and extracurricular activities. I am particularly interested in joining the student exchange
program to broaden my horizons and gain global insights. Upon graduation, I intend to gain
work experience to fund my master’s degree abroad.

I believe my experiences, combined with my strong determination to grow, make me a

suitable candidate for the Industrial Engineering IUP program. Should I face challenges along
the way, I am committed to evaluating my mistakes, improving myself, and striving harder to
achieve my dreams.

Thank you for considering my application. I am excited about the p

Electric vehicles (EV) have been popular in the last few years. This sustainable vehicle
has many benefits for the environment and for its owner. EV’s most important part is its battery
that is made out of nickel. Largest commodity of nickel is in Indonesia. Our country has 55
million metric tons of nickel, which is equal to 42,31% of the total nickel reserve in the world,
our blessed country. Processing nickel from raw material until it becomes a battery needs a
hundred works from various fields. These whole upstream and downstream processes need
someone to manage and organize them, it’s where industrial engineers take the part. This
complicated supply chain can be made simple with the help of industrial engineers. It always
makes me curious about how they do that, combining engineering, management, and
sociology together while still making the system efficient and productive.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Siti … and I am 17 years old. Currently I am a

twelfth grade student at SMA …. I write this letter to express my intention to join the
International Undergraduate Program in Industrial Engineering of Gadjah Mada University.
Being a student at one of the top schools in Indonesia, academics is not much of a problem
for me. Beyond academics, I practice my leadership in extracurricular and events. One of them
was Nila Pangkaja, the theatre club of SMA …. I was a performer and also a treasurer in it.
Planning budget for events, calculating every spendings, and managing every member’s
money help me to develop discipline and be more elaborate. I also learned that I'm a
compassionate and easy going person as I often volunteer in an orphanage with my friends.
We raised fundraising money, gathered books, clothes, and bags for them.

My top goal is to be one of the important people in Indonesia, become a minister for
instance. Gadjah Mada is the top one university in Indonesia and it’s not an anomaly if we see
one of its alumni on the tv screen, coordinating the country. This means Gadjah Mada has a
strong and successful alumni out there. It also proves that Gadjah Mada is the top university
in Indonesia. I believe UGM can provide me the privilege of relation and sharpen my skills to
achieve my goals. Not only soft skills, I also believe that UGM can provide the best lecturer
and knowledge for its students. Cherry on the top with UGM’s facilities such as bus, bike, and
a nice building.

I want to learn about how engineering connects to the world with a system. As
international engineering IUP UGM provides their students to explore industrial engineering
all around the world and to study from top institutions, it would be a great opportunity and
learning experience. With this experience, I can implement the knowledge and experience that
I learned outside to our country and society. What I personally plan on implementing my
knowledge is to the nickel industry. With knowledge and experience I will get from IE IUP
UGM, I want to develop the nickel’s potential from our country to be the largest battery industry
in the world but still press the waste to be environmentally friendly.

The title of S.T (Sarjana Teknik) as an alumni of UGM will have a lot of pride and
responsibility. If I get trusted with it, I will give back to Gadjah Mada University by joining the
Student Association, joining various competitions to represent Gadjah Mada proudly, and
being a known skillful alumni of UGM with the help of my leadership and collaboration skills.
From my self-determination and willingness to contribute to society, I do believe that I will be
a suitable addition to the IE IUP UGM 2025.
Best regards,
Kania
I’m Nathania …, an 17 years old from SMAN …. I am an easy going and adaptable
person because I mostly participate in outdoor activities with many people.
I joined basketball both inside and outside of school which led me to participate in DBL
competitions and other competitions outside of the city. From basketball, I learned agility while
playing, being disciplined, and developing teamwork with others. Beside basketball, I
participated in theater extracurricular with the properties and setting division that I learned by
making something out of the object around me to be creative. In addition, I also engage in a
lot of events such S…. event in January as coordinator of the publication division, Pentas
Tunggal Teater Kertas event in May 4th, Collaboration Concert Forte in May 19th, Light
Orchestra in July as coordinator of the publication and marketing division, and …. with an
audience of nearly 6,000 people in GOR UNY in september. From all events that I participated
in, I learned how to communicate to others and to be creative to find ideas for each content
created. Moreover, I also joined a winter camp in Cambridge, UK in December 2022. There, I
get much better at critical thinking and communication because I learn how to live far from my
family and adapt to the new environment.
In life, air and humans coexist. We need air to breathe, but recently industrial factory
waste has caused air pollution. Gases such as CO2 cause acid rain, global warming and in
humans have an impact on respiratory problems. This is still a challenge because if it is not
resolved immediately, it will affect the quality of life. Therefore, I want to become an engineer
to educate the public by moving to public transportation so that pollution is reduced and
enforcing the rules for using emission control catalysts for an environmentally friendly
combustion process. Additionally, I want to make several innovations related to the
environment by creating and developing a product as a carbon filter for everything that makes
air pollution so that our air is getting fresh.
Choosing Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) not only because it's a prestigious school
but also because it has adequate facilities, numerous achievements, and guaranteed
education with incredible lectures that has been proven by my parents as an Veterinary and
Agricultural Technology UGM alumnus. Moreover, UGM has a great international curriculum
that helps to broaden the way of learning and student exchange opportunities as a new place
to learn. Additionally, immense career prospects because I can work in international
companies.
With my abilities I will be enhanced by UGM’s academic culture which has always been
promoted through its environment, people, and activities. As an easy going, creative, and lively
person, I dedicate myself to creating numerous contributions and begin a positive impact in
society with what I get in UGM. I will contribute in non-academic ways by joining some
organizations where I can learn new things and cultivate skills while also having the chance
to meet new people and make new experiences. I hope that UGM finds me as a suitable
candidate for the program and assists me in growing as a worthy member of the International
Undergraduate Program Faculty of Engineering of UGM which UGM will be proud to have.
Dear Admissions Committee,
My name is Vito …, and I’m 17 years old, turning 18 soon. I was born in …., …, and
now live in …. I’m excited to apply for UGM’s International Undergraduate Program (IUP) in
the Faculty of Engineering, majoring in Information Engineering. I consider myself a
hardworking and adaptable person who loves to learn and grow. I’ve been involved in
volunteer work and have also competed in multiple e-sports tournaments, which have helped
me develop teamwork and problem-solving skills. I believe these experiences have prepared
me for the challenges and opportunities at UGM.
I chose Information Engineering because cybersecurity is becoming a big issue in
Indonesia. Many people and businesses are getting hacked, and I want to help solve this
problem. By studying this field, I hope to learn how to protect information and build better
security systems. I also believe that improving cybersecurity can help businesses grow and
make technology in Indonesia more advanced.
I’m especially interested in UGM’s IUP program because it offers great learning

MOTIVATION LETTER

My name is …. I am writing this letter to express my interest in pursuing my study at

the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) Mechanical Engineering Universitas Gadjah
Mada (UGM) as it is my goal to become an automotive engineer with passion and willingness
to contribute to Indonesia’s environment. Albert Einstein once said, “The important thing is not
to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.” These quote reflect deeply my
passion for mechanical engineering and support my eagerness to pursue a challenging
program. I am sincerely willing to contribute to the advancement of mechanical engineering
which I believe UGM provides the best environment for it.
As an active student at SMA …, I always seek school organizations that allow me to
enhance my teamwork skills. Therefore, I participated in many school events. In June 2024, I
took part in became the Liaison Officer (LO) for performing arts held by Santa Theresia School
called, “Harmony in Diversity” which involved every students in … and external parties
including well-known singers such as Astrid Tiar, Oswin Wilke, and Naura Ayu. My
responsibility is to coordinate activities, facilitate communication, and assure everything goes
smoothly according to the plan behind the stage. I was also selected to become the tour
committee of Theresia Day in August 2024, a school event which provides inter-schools
competitions. I am in charge of leading the newcomers to see facilities provided by SMA …. I
applied my soft skills such as communication skills and efficient time management in order to
deal with complex situations and managing pressures.
My passion for mechanical engineering is rooted in automotive engineering and it is
supported by my eagerness to advance the development of eco-friendly vehicles.
Excessive carbon dioxide (CO2) emission caused by the automotive sector has always been
a global concern over the years because they can impact ecosystems, human health, and
economic scale. Fossil fuels result in large amounts of CO2 and trapped heat then causes
global warming. Consequences of climate change keep growing and becoming more
noticeable. This concern has become a global priority. Based on my knowledge, Indonesia is
facing the rise of air pollution caused by motor vehicles. To help eliminate transportations’
pollution, I believe there are alternative ways to manufacture affordable eco-friendly motor
vehicles that produce lower emissions. I am inspired by this urgency to pursue mechanical
engineering, specializing in the eco-friendly automotive industry.
To deepen my knowledge, I seek a high-quality education that provides international
exposure. Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), one of Indonesia’s most prestigious universities,
offers the International Undergraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering, which aligns
perfectly with my aspirations. UGM has a strong academic reputation that will equip me with
the latest knowledge of mechanical engineering with a global perspective. I am confident that
studying at UGM will provide the ideal environment to pursue my passion for mechanical
engineering and contribute meaningfully to the field.
With my aspirations and abilities, I am confident that I am prepared to face different
types of challenges while pursuing mechanical engineering. I have made a commitment for
myself, to create significant contributions that impact the society positively with knowledge I
already pursue in UGM. In addition to that, I will also contribute to non-academic activities that
allow me to synergize with people with the same hobbies as me. Thus, I can enhance not just
my hobbies but also my interpersonal skills.
Joining IUP Mechanical Engineering UGM would be the best opportunity for me to be
a passionate student. I believe, by studying mechanical engineering in IUP UGM will develop
my skill and expand my knowledge while contributing to society to bring a positive change in
the environment.
Motivation Letter
Hello my name is Detri …, 17 years old student at …. I consider myself as a social
butterfly, creative, and reliable person. I love to join a competition. For example, Seoul
International Invention Fair (SIIF) where me and my team created an eco-friendly invention
and won a silver medal along with special awards from other countries. Also, I once
participated as a committee member of a school musical concert and successfully sold around
8k tickets. Sometimes I like to participate in volunteer activities. Such as, the opportunity to
volunteer with Yayasan Literasi Desa Tumbuh in Yogyakarta, where I taught children how to
read. It was a truly rewarding experience, and I believe that engaging in activities like this not
only helps others but also fosters personal growth. Volunteering can strengthen our empathy
and emotional intelligence, allowing us to connect more deeply with the world around
us. Lastly, my school has a mandatory thesis program to graduate and I wrote a scientific
article called “Use of Shell and Coconut Shell Waste as a Dirty Air Adsorbent''. From these
experiences I learned many things, such as the importance of chemistry with each member of
the team, how to manage time efficiently, and how to think critically.
I chose the Urban and Regional Planning International Undergraduate Program (IUP)
at UGM because of my deep passion for designing cities that will create a positive impact on
society. This program is an ideal fit for me, as it emphasizes social skills, a strength I have
mastered. Also my personal reason is because it is related to my childhood hobby, which is
playing a game called “Sims City” where the game teaches me how to design a city. Lastly,
most of my family used to study at UGM and I want to continue the legacy.
IUP is a suitable program for me because it lets me study in Indonesia while also giving
me a taste of studying abroad. Indonesia has always fascinated me with its culture and diverse
landscapes, and I'm eager to immerse myself in its vibrant communities. The program's dual
approach—combining local and international education—appeals to me because it offers a
unique chance to explore a new country while pursuing my academic goals. Studying abroad
isn't just about academics; it's about personal growth, gaining independence, and learning
from different perspectives. I believe the IUP program will not only broaden my horizons but
also equip me with valuable skills and experiences for my future endeavors.
With all being said, as a competitive, communicative, analytic, team player and
punctual person, l believe these will be useful during my study time in UGM. I am certain that
these qualities will contribute positively to UGM. Therefore, I am certain I can be a great
addition to the University. I appreciate your consideration of my application. I look forward to
the opportunity to contribute and grow within your program.
Sincerely,

Detri …
