Introduction
Blantyre Synod Health and Development Commission (BSHDC), a faith-based
organisation conducted a supervision and monitoring of the teaching session in order
to assess the performance if the trainings that they were provided with were effective.
The activity took place on 3rdAugust, 2024. At Mtenjera school, we conducted
supervision and monitoring of teaching session using kobo collector application. We
supervised the teaching session of a religious facilitator with youths which they tackled
issues concerning roles of youths on family planning methods and groups to work with
in relation to issues that affect youths. The teaching session had 20 members which
comprised of 2 males and 18 females.

1. The objective of the activity

• The main objective was to monitor and assess the performance of the trainers
on how they are capable to render the services that they were trained by the
Blantyre synod staff under NZATONSE project
• To collect data reporting tools and provide guidance on how to accurately
collect data.

2. Facilitators of the Teaching session

- Religious leader (Mrs Mary, Changwa).


- BSHDC Staff

3. Brief description of teaching session participants

- A total of 20 youths were Present during the teaching sessions at Mtenjera school
ground (2 males and 18 females).

Issues covered during the teaching sessions were as follows:

• Roles of youths on family planning methods


• Sexual Reproductive Health Education
• Outlining key issues concerning issues and abuses that youths
• Relevant Groups to work with in tackling the challenges that affect the youths

5. successes

- Participants were able to relate and share information and experiences on abuses
that they face in their communities.
- Participants were willing to work with BSHDC during Phase V
- Data collection tools were collected
- Active participation among participants

Challenges

- Lack of sufficient stationery to support the need of data collection tools.


- Insufficient time for adequate presentation
- Late arrival of participants
- There was no gender balance of the participants most males did not attend which shows
lack of interest among them.

Conclusion

• Allocated adequate time in the upcoming trainings to avoid compromising the quality
of work
• There is need to accelerate the procurement process to ensure that the project has
enough tools.
• There is need for conducting more awareness campaigns concerning NZATONSE
project in order to have gender balance attendance turn up.
