What is the MODE?

Mode is the most repeated number

Median is the middle
number in a set of data
when the data is arranged
in numerical order
12, 15, 11, 11, 7, 13
First, arrange the data in numerical order.
7, 11, 11, 12, 13, 15
Then find the number in the middle
OR Add the 2 numbers and divide by 2.

The median is 11.5

a). Mode = £1.80 (most repeated number)
Median = £3.25 ( middle number)
Range = £4.20 - £1.80 (Highest – lowest value)

= £2.40
a). Mode = £2.20 (most repeated number)

b). Range = 3.60 -2.00

= £1.60
First, Arrange values from
least to greatest.

a). 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
Median = 6
b). 18, 21, 22, 25, 27, 28, 30, 31, 34, 35, 39
Median = 28
First, Arrange values from
least to greatest.
The Mean

Mean = 10 + 20 + 15 + 5

Example
Find the mean
-7, 10, -15, 12, -5

-5/5 = -1

Sara has 5 cards. There is a number on each card.

13 11 6 17 ?
The mean of the 5 numbers is 10
Work out the number on the 5th card.

13 + 11 + 5 + 17 + ? = 50 Hint:

the whole set
50 - 47 = 3

c). Modal height = 132cm

a). Mean = (132+147+ 143+136+ 135+ 146+ 153+ 132+ 137+ 149) /10
= 1410/10
= 141cm

b). 132, 132 , 135, 136, 137, 143, 146, 147, 149, 153
Median = (137+143) /2
= 140cm
a). Mean price = (50+70+ 45+60+ 90+ 65+ 55+ 60+ 55+ 60) /10
= 610/10
= 61p

C) 200 D) 210
Line graph
The line graph shows the temperature, in
Celsius degrees (°C), in Sheffield over an
18-hour period.
The weights of four students
are displayed .

(a)Who is the lightest student? Sam

(b) Write down Martyʼs weight. 78 kg
(c) Work out the range of the weights. 78 – 60 = 18 kg
(d) How many more kg does Fred weight than Ryan? 75- 70 =5 kg
