2.3 Internship Achievements

An internship is a period of work experience offered by an organization for a limited

period of time. Once confined to medical graduates, the term is now used for a wide
range of placements within businesses, non-profit organizations and government
agencies. They are typically undertaken by students and graduates looking to gain
relevant skills and experience in a particular field. Employers benefit from these
placements because they often recruit employees from their best interns, who have
known capabilities, thus saving time and money in the long run. Internships are
usually arranged by third-party organizations which recruit interns on behalf of
industry groups. Rules vary from country to country and Universities.

Internships for professional careers are similar in some ways, but not as rigorous
as apprenticeships for professions, trade, and vocational jobs. The lack of
standardization and oversight leaves the term "internship" open to broad
interpretation. Interns may be high school students, college and university students, or
post-graduate adults. These positions may be paid or unpaid and are temporary.

Typically, an internship consists of an exchange of services for experience between

the intern and the organization. Internships are used to determine if the intern still has
an interest in that field after the real life experience. In addition, an internship can be
used to create a professional network that can assist with letters of recommendation
and or lead to future employment opportunities. The benefit of bringing an intern into
full-time employment is that they are already familiar with the company, their
position, and they typically need little to no training. Internships provide current Ad Download to read ad-free

CHAPTER III

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

3.1 Conclusion
I got a lot of knowledge about the contribution of private and government sectors
toward tourism industry during my two and half months of internship program. I was
able to know how an organization can be different from other through various Human
resources which are inimitable to gain competitive advantage. In such a work
environment, various activities could be performed that not only helped in building a
professional but hopefully benefited the organization to some extend as well.
This report is based on the ten weeks of internship done in GP Travel and Tours
which is situated in Durbar Marg, Kathmandu. It was fruitful opportunity for me to
work on Services Department and have a practical knowledge of tourism in Nepal in a
real environment of GP Travel and Tours.

During this internship of 10 weeks, I got opportunity to observe, how people work in
the organization and how they put their effort for better results and objective
achievement.

There was no such uncomfortable situation during the internship program. To be more
precise, the working environment at GP Travel was very cooperative and the staffs
were very supportive. So, it was much easier for me to gain the knowledge and
information of the department.
During internship, I learnt a lot of other aspects other than the tourism such as to
socialize with the people (including staffs), to deal with the customers, and to deal
with the senior staffs so as to make the working environment cozier and friendlier.
This internship program also helps in learning the behavioral issues which are most
important within and outside the organization.

Summer Internship Report - COX and Kings

3.2 Recommendation
Working as an intern at Nation representing organization of tourism sector was truly
an amazing experience. During the internship, I got a great opportunity to learn about
so many things that have practical implication in career building. Somehow there is
always a SWOT of every aspect. I would like to recommend few things to both
College and Organization.

3.2.1 Recommendation to the organization

Being a part of GP Travel &Tours as an Intern and observing its working
environment and procedures, I feel lucky to get so much of opportunities that
have influenced me a lot in positive aspects. Although I don’t have any
complain toward GP Travel &Tours regarding my Internship, I do have
some recommendation which might be helpful for interns who are going to be
connected with GP Travel &Tours after me.
 GP Travel &Tours should come up with strategies to keep employees
and staffs motivated so that they will value the workplace and do not
have the feeling of monotony.
 Domestic Tourism promotion should also be equally focused.
.
 There should be more cooperation between employees of all the
Departments as the objective is to attend the same goal through different
mediums.

3.2.2 Recommendations to the college

I am heartily thankful to Apex College for providing us an opportunity to gain
some practical knowledge on what we are learning in our class rooms. Theory
unless made behavior have no use. Thus, this internship program offered by
University has influenced us a lot as first milestone in professional career of
students.

Internship Report

Apex College Internship program is designed to help us to apply the knowledge

and skills we have gained in our courses to professional settings.
An internship is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and
theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills
development in a professional setting. Internships give students the opportunity
to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields
they are considering for career paths; and give employers the opportunity to
guide and evaluate talent.

The Internship program has provided me with

opportunities to:
 Explore a particular career path
 Confirm my choice of major
 Helped me decide whether to pursue graduate studies
 Develop professional skills that aren’t easily gained through classroom
learning

Learning from my personal experience, there are something I would like

to recommend to college:
 Proper inspection of intern students should be done by the college in
regular manner during the internship.
 College should supervise to the organization before, after and
during the internship program.

 During the internship period, the college should visit the

respective organizations to know the performance of students as an
intern.
