CEILING
❖A ceiling is an overhead interior surface that
covers the upper limits of a room.
❖It is not generally considered a structural
element, but a finished surface concealing the
underside of the roof structure or the floor of a
storey above.
❖ Ceilings can be decorated to taste, and there
are many fine examples of frescoes and artwork
on ceilings especially in religious buildings.
What are the components of a ceiling frame?

The ceiling frame is the horizontal area between the top of walls and
the roof. It is the horizontal member that carries the load of the ceiling
sheets and act as a tie between the rafters at their base. It consists of
ceiling joists, trimmers and beams.

Metal furring can be spaced at 0.40 meter up to 0.60 meter apart. attached to the
metal framing by drywall screw.
What is the most commonly used ceiling system?
The suspended ceiling, also known as
a drop ceiling or bulkhead ceiling, is
one of the most commonly installed
office ceilings. It consists of a grid
framework of metal channels or T-bars
that suspend ceiling tiles or panels
beneath the structural ceiling.
CEILING
❖Pipework or ducts can be run in the
gap above the ceiling, and insulation
and fireproofing material can be
placed here.
❖Other types of ceiling include the
cathedral ceiling, the concave or
barrel-shaped ceiling, the stretched
ceiling and the coffered ceiling.
A reflected ceiling plan (RCP) is
a drawing that shows the items are
located on the ceiling of a room or
space. It is referred to as a reflected
ceiling plan since it is drawn to display
a view of the ceiling as if it was
reflected onto a mirror on the floor.

❖When the height of the room is too much, providing a ceiling

helps to reduce the height.

❖"Reducing the height also helps in reducing the capacity of the

air- conditioner ,covering the upper area also has the multiple
advantages such concealing the wiring, lighting fixtures, air-
conditioning ducts, security cameras, and other fixtures.
Advantages of ceiling:

❖The ceiling also acts as an attractive base for all kinds of

decorative electric lights and fans. These apart, a ceiling
helps eliminate echo in the room. In bathroom, ceilings can
be provided to hide the pipes or any other fittings above.
