PART 1 Study the examples and usage of the relative clauses below.

In the video, you hear people talking about the types of jobs they are searching for...

“ I’m searching for a job where I’m in charge.”

“ I’m searching for a job that doesn’t feel like work.”

The two clauses above “...that doesn’t feel like work.” and “...where I’m in charge.” are called
relative clauses. Relative clauses give more information about a noun. In the sentences above, the
relative clauses give more information about the type of jobs the people are looking for. When
referring to a situation or place of a job, use where. When referring to the actual job, use that.

RELATIVE PRONOUN “where” ...where + subject / verb clause


RELATIVE PRONOUN “that” ...that + verb clause

EXAMPLES I’m looking for a job where I can work from home.
I’m looking for a job that allows me to work from home.

PART 2 Choose the correct relative pronoun for each sentence below.

with a partner or your teacher.
