Basic Forms of Amigurumi

The document describes basic shapes for amigurumi, including cones, cylinders, spheres, tubes, and oval shapes. Cones can be used for noses or hats and are made by adding 1-3 increases per round. Cylinders are used for bodies and are made by starting with a circle and working single crochets around. Spheres are made like cylinders but with fewer rounds of just single crochets. Tubes are open at both ends.

Cone (3D) or triangle (2D)

Conical shapes can be used to make an animal's nose, a hat

pointed or an ice cream cone (filled shapes). A conical shape without
filling can be used as a pointed ear (of a kitten, for
for example) or to start flower petals and leaves.

To create a basic conical shape, start with the smallest number possible of
points on the magic ring and add from 1 to 3 increases in each row. How much
the fewer the number of points, the sharper your cone will be. The number of
the points you will increase each round will determine how wide your cone is
stay (width). 1 increase per round results in a narrow cone and 3 increases
result in a wider cone.

Use 3D cones (left) and 2D triangles (right) to make amigurumi pieces with
sharp extremities.

Cylinder (3D) or Oval (2D)

Cylinders of different sizes are commonly used to form bodies,
arms, legs of amigurumis. A cylinder without stuffing (flat) originates
an oval shape. This could be used to make ears, wings, or petals of
rounded flowers.

Use 3D cylinders (left) and 2D oval (right) to make amigurumi pieces

with rounded end.

To create a narrow cylinder, start with a flat circle. When the

circle reach the desired diameter of the cylinder you want to make, stop
increase and make low points at all points of the career and continue until
that your cylinder reaches the desired height. When you get to this point, stop if you
I wanted an open cylinder at the top (like a test tube, for example).
If you want both ends to be closed, close the top by making a
flat reverse circle, that is, make 6 decreases per round until the hole
be closed. It is the same process used to close the sphere, only that
it depends on the number of increases you used at the beginning of the cylinder.

Sphere (3D) or Circle (2D)

Spheres are widely used to create heads, balls, among others. Crocheting,
for its part, a circle has a better finish than making a sphere and
use it without stuffing.

To make a sphere, you will use the same reasoning as the cylinder, however
will make fewer rounds of only single crochets all around between the phases of
increases and decreases. This will cause you to obtain a spherical shape.
perfect.

Tube (open on both ends)

In some cases, you will need to make an open tube on both sides, for
make a long neck, for example. To do this, you will not be able to
start with the magic ring. Instead, start with a chain
with the number of points you want on the circumference of your tube (larger
number of points, the larger the diameter of the tube). Make a low point on
last point of the chain to form a ring. Then, make several
points along the formed ring, with as many rows as needed
(more lines, greater the length of the tube).

Flat oval shape

A flat oval shape can be used as the sole of the foot, an oval appliqué, or
like a wide snout. The magic ring produces a circle, so to form
an oval flat shape, start with a chain. Make a single crochet
in the second point of the chain and continue until the end of the row. In the last
chain stitch, make 3 single crochets. Turn 180 degrees and start to
make single crochets on the other side of the base chain. Continue to work
around, making increases at the end of each row and making single crochets
at each point of the chain. You will actually be making 2 halves of
a circle with a rectangle in the middle.
