Stone Capping
Stone Capping
15 m
1.0 DESCRIPTION
This work includes the covering of surfaces with stone masonry to protect them against
the erosion and undermining, according to what is indicated in the plans and/or as ordered by the Supervisor. The
Structures where this type of coating is used are the following:
2.0 MATERIALS
2.1 Stone
The stones to be used in the pointing must have dimensions such that the smallest dimension is
lower than the thickness of the lining by five (5) centimeters. It is recommended not to use stones with shape and
textures that do not favor good adhesion with the mortar, such as rounded stones or pebbles
stones without fragmentation. Weathered stones and fragile stones will not be used. Preferably the stones
they must be of a prismatic shape, having at least one flat face, which will be placed on the side of the
mouthpiece.
The stones used must be clean and free of crust. If their surfaces have
any foreign matter that reduces adhesion will be cleaned or washed. They will be rejected if
they have fats, oils and/or if the foreign materials are not removed. The stones to be used can
to be selected from three sources, with prior authorization from the Supervisor:
Quarries
Cuts and excavations for leveling and works of art
Rock blasting for earthworks and artworks.
2.2 Concrete
2.3 Mortar
The mortar to be used for the bedding and filling of the joints of the stones will be made of cement.
and sand, in a one to three (1:3) ratio, or according to the Supervisor's instructions. The
Cement and sand must meet the specifications of item 6.06.
The mouthpiece will be built as indicated in the project plans, at its location,
dimensioning and other characteristics. Any modification must be approved by the Supervisor.
Once the excavation and filling are completed, profiling and compacting of the surface will proceed.

vibratory mechanical equipment. Prior to compaction, the material must be moistened. It

it is necessary to prepare the mortar with a mixer, which must be of the appropriate capacity and will be

Before laying the stone, it must be moistened, as should the support surface or template.

possible binding, on a previously emptied mortar bed, arranging them in a way to fill
as best as possible the gap formed by the adjacent stones. The stones should be placed from

they will be set with care not to loosen the already placed ones.
The joints between stones will be completely filled with mortar. Before hardening of the
mortar, the surface of the pointing should be leveled. In case a stone comes loose or remains
if it is poorly set or if one of the joints opens, that stone will be removed, as well as the mortar from the bed and
the joints, reseating with new mortar, moistening the seating area.
The facing of slopes should be done starting from the base, with the stones of
larger dimensions; the stone setting will be done similarly to the case of the setting
of bricks, placing mortar joints at least 5 cm thick. For the development of the

the surface must be kept moist for a minimum of three (3) days.
To conclude the construction of the embankment, the alignment, slopes, and elevation will be verified.

tolerances indicated below:
During the execution of the work, the Supervisor will carry out the following main controls:
Check the condition and operation of all equipment used by the Contractor.
Supervise the correct application of the accepted work methods.
Demand compliance with safety measures and traffic maintenance.
Monitor compliance with work programs.
The unit of measurement for the plastering work, approved by the Supervisor, will be the meter.

The area of lining, measured as described above, will be paid at the unit price of the
item 6.11 "Stone tapering e=0.15 m/e=0.35 m". This price and payment constitute compensation.
