· ~Uniform circular motion is an accelerated motion. In uniform circular motion
the spee~ of ~e body remai?s the same ~ut the directio? of motion changes a;
every pomt. Fig shows the different velocity vectors at different positions of the
particle. At each position, the velocity vector is perpendicular to the radius
vector r. Thus, the velocity of the body changes continuously and due to the
continu~us _change in ~e directio~ of mo~ion of the ~ody. As the rate of change
.
of velocity is acceleration, so a uruform cucular motion is an accelerated motion

Momentum and Newton's Second Law of Motion Momentum of a body is the
30. quantity of motion possessed by the body. It depends on the mass of the body
and the velocity with which it moves. .
When a bullet is fired by a gun, it can easily pierce human tissue before c~nung
to rest resulting in casualty. The same bullet fired with mod~rate ~peed _will not·
cause much damage. The greater the change in momentum m a given tune, the
greater is the force that needs to be applied. .. . .
The second law of motion refers to the general situation, where there 1s a net
external force rating on the body. . .
