phase displacement shall not exceed the limits of the
appropriate class given in Table 201,
Table 202 and Table 203 for the range of secondary P
burden from 1 VA up to rated output. The
power factor shall be 1,0 over the full burden range.
The maximum rated output is limited to
15 VA.
5.6.201.5 Extended current ratings P
Current transformers of accuracy classes 0.1 to 1 may
be marked as having an extended
current rating provided they comply with the following
two requirements:
a) the rated continuous thermal current shall be the
P
rated extended primary current.
b) the limits of ratio error and phase displacement
prescribed for 120 % of rated primary
current in Table 201 shall be retained up to the rated
extended primary current.
5.6.201.6 Instrument security factor P
An instrument security factor may be specified. P
5.6.202 Protective current transformers P
5.6.202.1 General P
Three different approaches are designated to define
protective current transformers (see
Table 204). In practice, each of the three definitions P
may result in the same physical
realization.

5.6.202.2.
Accuracy class designation P

The accuracy class is designated using the highest
permissible percentage of the composite
P
error, followed by the letter “P” (standing for
“protection”) and the ALF value.

Error limits for class P protective current transformers P
4
At rated frequency and with rated burden connected,
the ratio error, phase displacement and
P
composite error shall not exceed the limits given in
Table 205.
The rated burden shall have a power-factor of 0,8
inductive except that, when the rated output P
is less than 5 VA a power-factor of 1,0 shall be used.

5.6.203.1 Accuracy performance for current transformers with
P
primary reconnection
5.6.203.2 Accuracy performance for current transformers with
tapped secondary P
windings
For all accuracy classes, the accuracy requirements
refer to the highest transformation ratio, P
unless specified otherwise.
When required by the purchaser, the manufacturer
shall give information about the accuracy P
performance at lower ratios.
5.201 Standard values for rated primary current P
5.202 Standard values for rated secondary current P
5.203 Standard values for rated continuous thermal current P
The standard value for rated continuous thermal
P
current is the rated primary current
When a rated continuous thermal current greater than
the rated primary current is specified,
P
the preferred values are 120 %, 150 % and 200 % of
rated primary current.
5.204 Short-time current ratings P
5.204.1 Rated short-time thermal current (Ith) P
5.204.2 Rated dynamic current (Idyn) P
The standard value of the rated dynamic current (Idyn)
is 2,5 times the rated short-time P
thermal current (Ith).

6.13.202. Specific marking of the rating plate of current
6 transformers for transient N
performance
The class marking consists of the following 2
elements:
a) Definition part (compulsory)
The definition part contains the essential information
which is necessary to determine
whether the current transformer fulfils given
requirements (consisting of duty cycle and
N
Tp).
b) Complementary part (compulsory only if a duty
cycle is specified by the customer)
The complementary part represents one of many
possible duty cycles which lead to the
Ktd value specified in a).

7 Tests P
8 Rules for transport, storage, erection, operation and
P
maintenance
9 Safety P
High-voltage equipment can be safe only when
installed in accordance with the relevant
installation rules, and used and maintained in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions
P
in terms of:
– electrical aspects;
– mechanical aspects;
– thermal aspects.
High-voltage equipment shall only be operated and
maintained by competent persons. Where
possible it shall only be accessible to such competent
P
persons but where unrestricted access
is available to instrument transformers, additional
safety features may be required.
10 Influence of products on the natural environment P
The need to minimize the impact of instrument
transformers during all phases of their life on P
the natural environment is now recognized.
IEC guide 109 gives guidance with regard to life cycle
impacts, recycling and disposal at the P
end of life.
The manufacturer should specify information
regarding any environmental aspects of the
P
instrument transformer during service life, dismantling
of the equipment and disposal.
