Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) refers to the standards,
practices, and awareness required in workplaces to ensure the safety and well-being of all
workers and trainees. Understanding OHS principles is crucial for minimizing risks, such as
exposure to hazards, chemicals, and contamination. For example, proper disposal of waste—
like ensuring disposable items are thrown into the correct trash bins—is vital for maintaining
a clean and safe environment.

It is important to recognize that a workplace is not a playground or picnic area; it

requires adherence to rules and safety procedures. While following these guidelines
greatly reduces risks, it does not eliminate them entirely. Even with caution and
compliance, dangers can still exist, making vigilance and awareness essential at all
times.

Tool and Equipment Usage

1. Always use the proper tool required for the job.
2. Follow the correct procedure for using every tool.

Personal Protection
3. Always wear eye protection or goggles.
4. Wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
5. Remove any watches or jewelry to avoid accidents.
6. Secure loose clothing to prevent entanglement.

Workplace Hygiene and Environment

7. Do not drink or eat within the workplace.
8. Keep the workspace free from clutter or mess.
9. Ensure proper lighting to avoid accidents.
10.Ensure the proper placement and arrangement of tools and equipment.

Electrical and Heat Safety

11.Do not touch areas that are hot or have high voltage.
12.Never open the power supply or monitor.
13.Turn off the power and unplug equipment before opening the case
or performing service.

Emergency Preparedness
14.Know the location of the fire extinguisher and first aid kit.

Handling and Lifting

15.Use your legs, not your back, when lifting heavy objects to avoid back injury.

Static Protection
16.Remove the anti-static wrist strap when replacing or installing a power
supply or monitor.
