Present simple / Daily routine

When do we use the Present Simple?

• To talk about daily routines: I wake up at 7. She goes to school at 8.

• To talk about facts: The sun rises in the east.

• To talk about things that are always true: Water boils at 100°C.

How do we form the Present Simple?

Positive sentences

• I/You/We/They work in the morning.

• He/She/It works in the morning. (Add -s to the verb)

Negative sentences

• I/You/We/They do not (don’t) work.

• He/She/It does not (doesn’t) work.

Questions

• Do I/you/we/they work? Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.

• Does he/she/it work? Yes, he does. / No, he doesn’t.

Daily Routine Vocabulary

wake up – get up – brush my teeth – wash my face – have a shower – get dressed – have
breakfast – go to school/work – start work – finish work – have lunch – do homework – cook
dinner – watch TV – read – go to bed – sleep
Prepositions of Frequency

• always (100%)

• usually (80%)

• often (60%)

• sometimes (40%)

• rarely (20%)

• never (0%)

Example: I always brush my teeth in the morning. She never eats pizza.

Prepositions of Time

• at + clock times: at 7 o’clock, at night

• in + months/years/parts of day: in July, in 2025, in the morning

• on + days/dates: on Monday, on 2nd September
