Recruitment for Assistant Professor – Law (Contract) position at the National Law School of
India University, Bangalore
The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) was established in 1987 to be a pioneer in legal
education. Over the last three decades the University has evolved as an innovative leader in law, social
sciences, humanities, and public policy education and research in India. It has also been ranked first
among the law universities in the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the last seven years.

To sustain this leadership, the University invites applications from exceptionally well-qualified
individuals, dedicated to academic teaching, scholarship, and institutional service for the following
positions:

I.​ The Role of Assistant Professor (Contract)

Assistant Professors (Contract) are full-time members of university departments/faculties. They will
join an inter-disciplinary, intellectually stimulating environment and collaborate with highly
accomplished colleagues for research and teaching.
II.​ Duties and responsibilities

1.​ To teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses.


2.​ To design and deliver lectures or classes during term time to undergraduates and/or graduates;
and to produce lecture notes, course materials, and reading lists as required and set and grade
assignments and exams. In addition, to design and deliver lectures and classes over the year in the
University’s Professional and Continuing Education department.
3.​ To hold consultation with students and provide feedback on their work.
4.​ To liaise, as required, with other faculty teaching the subject.
5.​ To undertake an appropriate share of other Faculty administrative duties, dependent on
career-stage, including service on committees.
6.​ To participate in the governance, intellectual life, and academic activities of the University.

III.​ Selection Criteria For Recruitment To Assistant Professor – (2 -Year Contract)

The application will be judged only against the criteria which are set out below. You should ensure that
your application shows clearly how your skills and experience meet these criteria. NLSIU is an equal

1.​ Essential Qualifications


i.​ A master’s degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a
point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed). A relaxation of 5% may be
provided at the graduate and master’s level for the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled
Tribe, and Differently abled categories for the purpose of eligibility and for
assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions.
ii.​ Communication, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills necessary
to undertake pastoral care and administration for both undergraduate and graduate
students and the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds to enable
them to reach their full potential.
2.​ Desirable Qualifications
i.​ Candidates who have published in high-quality academic journals will be preferred.
ii.​ Candidates with demonstrated academic excellence in their University education
will be preferred.
iii.​ Candidates should demonstrate evidence of the skills needed for higher education
teaching and a research record commensurate with the stage of their career.
iv.​ Candidates who demonstrate their commitment to the University’s goals and objectives.

IV.​ How to apply

i.​ Interested candidates are required to submit applications through online mode only - by
completing the Application Form and uploading copies of all required certificates. Without
these certificates, the application form will not be considered. Your application must include:
ii.​ A statement of purpose of not more than 800 words.
iii.​ A full CV that includes a publications list.
iv.​ A sample or samples or written work, published or unpublished (co-authored pieces
should be identified as such). In the case of pieces of written work exceeding
20,000 words, candidates should indicate which part or parts they wish to draw to
the attention of the selection committee.
v.​ Details of two professional referees.

V.​ General Conditions:


i.​ Foreign nationals/OCI/NRI/PIO are permitted to apply. If selected, the
confirmation of the candidate’s appointment shall be subject to obtaining
necessary visa approvals as prescribed by the Government of India.
ii.​ The prescribed essential qualifications/experience indicated are the bare minimum.
Merely possessing this qualification/experience will not entitle the candidate(s) to
be called for an interview.
iii.​ The qualification prescribed above should have been obtained from recognized
Universities/ Institutions.
iv.​ Candidates shall have to produce original documents at the time of joining.
v.​ Candidates serving in Government/ Public Sector Undertakings (including Boards/
Autonomous Bodies) are required to submit their ‘No Objection Certificate’ from
their current employer at the time of interview, if not submitted earlier.
vi.​ Where the number of applications received in response to this advertisement is
large and it may not be convenient or possible for NLSIU to interview all the
candidates, NLSIU reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates to be
called for interviews to a reasonable limit.
vii.​ No correspondence whatsoever will be entertained from candidates regarding
conduct/result of the interview and reasons for not being called for an interview.
viii.​ Canvassing in any form/bringing in any influence political or otherwise will be
treated as a disqualification for the Post.
ix.​ NLSIU reserves the right of not filling the post advertised and/or filling vacancies
irrespective of the post applied for.
x.​ If information given in an application is found to be incorrect/false, at any stage,
the Candidature is liable to be cancelled and any appointment made is also liable to
be terminated.
xi.​ The last date for submission of the application is 3.09.2025 at 17:00 hrs.
xii.​ The candidates shortlisted for interview will be intimated through email.

Interested individuals are requested to go through the University’s website, fill in the Application Form
and upload the certificates to support their claim for educational qualifications, age, experience etc. on or
before 3.09.2025.
