70% of body weight is water. We can live a month
IMPORTANCE: without food, but only 3–4 days without water.
Drinking, washing, cooking, cleaning, flushing toilets,
USE(S): and leisure activities (boating, swimming, fishing).
PLANTS NEED WATER
Plants absorb water through roots.
Farmers irrigate crops using rivers, lakes, and
wells.
Irrigation = special watering method to bring
water from different water resources onto the
land to help grow crops.
Crops all need water but some differ in water
needs (e.g., rice/cotton need more water than
olives/oranges which don’t need alot).
ANIMALS NEED WATER
Animals need water to live.
Farm animals (meat, milk, eggs) require lots of
water.
Water is home to million of animals in the and is
vital for fish and shellfish that we eat.
INDUSTRY
Used in cooling machinery, producing electricity (especially
hydro and power stations).
Needed for making food and many daily products.
