Ideation
Paper Model
A basic paper model followed to test
proportions and understand how flat
elements can come together to form a
3D structure

Ideation sketch
Through quick ideation sketches,
initial forms and structures were
explored. These helped in visualizing
how the furniture could take shape.
Hands on slicing

A clay model was made

to explore the form. It
was then sliced by hand
to understand how the
shape breaks into layers.
Each slice was traced on
paper to study the
outlines for building the
final structure.
Designing
3D Modelling
The sofa was modeled in Rhino 3D,
using the side profile as a base to build
the full form digitally.

Seating Ergonomics
A relaxed sitting posture was used as a
reference to draw the side profile of
the sofa, ensuring comfort and proper
proportions.
Slicing
Sliced cutouts
The sliced layers were converted into
flat outlines in AutoCAD, ready for laser
marking and cutting.

Slicing
The model was sliced diagonally in
Rhino to create layered sections that
follow the shape of the form.
3D renders

Cutting
Cutting
Each marked slice was carefully
cut using a hand jigsaw to prepare
for assembly.

Laser marking
Cardboard sheets were laser
marked with the slice outlines to
guide the cutting process.
Assembling
Assembling
All the cut slices were stacked and
joined in sequence to reconstruct
the full form of the sofa, turning flat
layers into a functional 3D structure.
